Average CNA salary?

Published

Hey Everyone,

I am taking a CNA class next week for about 4 weeks and then expect to work as a CNA while I go to school for my RN starting in 2006. Just wondering that the average CNA salary is - and more specifically in CT if anyone knows. Also, would I make more: in a hospital, in a nursing home, or doing home care? I would appreciate any comments or advice. Thanks!

I work in a hospital in the south burbs of Chicago and I started out making $9.71 an hour, plus $1.50 night differental. Now I am up to $10.00 base pay.

In Texas, minimum wage-9.00 is what i've seen. Not worth it IMHO. I was a

phlebotomist for several years while in nursing school and made 10-12. I was able to see a wider variety of areas in the hospital, and my ability to start IV's was far beyond most in my class. I was also more familiar with lab values which also helped alot.

DAREINGTX,

How does a person become a phlebotomist?

When I was a CNA while in nursing school, I think I started out at $9/hr in 2002 and then in 2004 my pay went up to $11/hr. I live in Mass.

How Bat As Far As Getting Employment I Live In Northern Cal And Wondering How Hard It Is To Get Employment As A Cna

In Maryland, ~ $9.19/hr to start in a psychiatric setting.

Here in Phoenix I started at a rehab/ltc place and am making $10.75/hr. I know hospitals pay CNAs less, a girl in my nursing program is making 9.38/hr at a hospital. But, she has a lower patient ratio and she says it's better than LTC. I am only working 1 night a week at the place I'm at...but it is backbreaking work and I don't think I'd be able to do it full time for years on end like some of these other girls. It's definitely a motivation to do great in nursing school.

I make $10 at a hospital in Austin, TX. That is more than most because I am PRN and you get a higher rate. Our shift diff is 85 on the weekends and 65 during the evenings. If you are full-time, part-time, pay is lower because you receive benefits.

What part exactly in Connecticut? I believe the Greater Hartford area pays 10-15 dollars an hour.

Anywhere from 12-15

Good Luck :)

In San Antonio - pay is around 8-9 an hour...not worth it IMHO

My question to you all is, how does your salary stack up to what salary.com says you should be making as a CNA in your area? I'm possibly about to take a CNA class, and salary.com says that it bottom scale pay rate for where I live is ~$20,000.

How does your area compare to Salary.com? Are you making anywhere near what they say you should? Just curious... I'd appreciate knowing this before I leap. :) Still, I need to do it because one of the schools I'm applying to has a CNA requirement.
