This is kind of a weird question, but has anyone ever had a patient who you've found yourself romantically attracted to? This happened to me last week...I work on a med-surg floor and most of my patients are elderly, but one patient I had was a guy close to my age who didn't have a very serious problem, and I found myself attracted to him in spite of myself. I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience? :uhoh21:

Ever read any "Nancy Nurse" books??? Common connundrum. Please remember that you can feel anything you want, professionals don't act on it.

Not a problem I have faced....have met many patients that I could be friends with though.
However, my former mil was a nurse in cicu, and there was a very non-compliant patient on tele, so they had her go talk to him, and she let him know all about it, well they ended up being friends from then on, and continued until he passed away many years later........

Well I've taken care of many gorgous women while working in the er's around here, and some were very pleasent to talk to. Have been asked out while working? Only once. Did I accept? Heck yes, had a blast.

i don't think it's weird. if you find someone attractive, that's perfectly normal because you are human. i have taken care of many patients that i would consider nice to look at, but that's as far as it goes for me. number one because i would never want to become involved with a patient and number two i am married

No. But I know it happens all the time. Some marriages result. Be careful. Best to wait til after he's discharged, I'd think, to develop any relationship.
You might want to read your facility's policy on this topic. They probably do have one.

Yep. Made the mistake of marrying the &()*&)^%^$%$#!.
Nothing wrong with having the feelings, just don't act on them while he's a pt. Find out your facility's policy about what can happen after the pt is discharged.

With the disposible blue bouffant hat and dizzying-paisley print buttless gown, and grippie socks for an outfit, and after their body hair has been hemi-style sheared off wherever necessary, and coated in DuraPrep, i can honestly say "nope!"

Sure, I am a normal woman with normal hormones, normal sex drive etc. However I have never acted on those urges/attractions in a work setting. It is not professional, period. Besides isn't the patient in question in a semi-vulnerable posistion anyway? Lonely, not that sick, and look who comes walking into his room- a hot horny nurse. Nope I chose not to go there. I also believe that if I am supposed to be with someone one/date them etc I will hopefully see them again in a different setting. These are my personel opinions. I realize we are all allowed our own beliefs and standards of care.
