attracted to one of your patients?

This is kind of a weird question, but has anyone ever had a patient who you've found yourself romantically attracted to? This happened to me last week...I work on a med-surg floor and most of my patients are elderly, but one patient I had was a guy close to my age who didn't have a very serious problem, and I found myself attracted to him in spite of myself. I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience? :uhoh21:

Nope. Both of us practice gun safety more rigorously than a pious monk practices religion (grin). I'm an avid hunter, and we both practice at the range when time permits. Though I'm "banned" from my rifles until my surgical wound (ICD placement) heals :(

I can't remember that I actually have, though like most everyone here I have met some great people. I did have a patient, or I should say, I took care of a patient who was just a little "forward". She was in for a possible ischemic attack, that turned out to be nothing so I did not pay as much attention to her as she would have like. She was being discharged and I needed to take off the tele pads, which I normally do discretely, so she told her friend to leave the room, which was fine but when he did she said, ok take them off and wipped open her gown, with a sultry smile. I thought to myself, "I wish I had asked my cna to do this" but I proceeded. As she went down the hall by the nursing station she looked over at me with the other nurses standing there and said, "if you had come earlier, you could have had me longer". I got some interesting looks from everone and one nurse who knew me well just said, "well well".

hehehe. That makes for some rather uncomfortable memories, I'm sure. It always makes me feel a little uncomfortable working with young female patients -not that I'd ever do anything I shouldn't be doing, but there is always the chance that one of them could seriously damage your character if not your career by claiming an incident. I'm not being paranoid about that, it can happen. Sadly, we are usually so understaffed at night that we do not have CNAs. But when we do, if I have 'that feeling' I always make sure a female CNA is in the room with me if I have to do anything to the patient. that is, beyond changing IV bags or something. Ok, maybe that does sound a bit paranoid, but you really just can't be too careful, I always say.
