attracted to one of your patients?

This is kind of a weird question, but has anyone ever had a patient who you've found yourself romantically attracted to? This happened to me last week...I work on a med-surg floor and most of my patients are elderly, but one patient I had was a guy close to my age who didn't have a very serious problem, and I found myself attracted to him in spite of myself. I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience? :uhoh21:

C'mon, Marie... Those outfits & that lovely skin shade after a prep are such an ATTRACTIVE look for anyone... How could you resist that? LMAO

The thrill is gone lol (and i don't mean AV fistula either lol)

one time in my younger days we had a patient that was a cowboy that had gotten gored by a bull...he was beautiful. Somehow I got assigned to him, we got to talking and found out that we both frequented a particular watering hole and agreed to meet up there the friday after he got out of the hospital. We met had a few drinks and a couple two steps and that was the end of it. never saw him again but I'll never forget him.

One of my instructors in a BSN program threw over his wife for one of his students. He was a good instructor; I found it hard to see him in the light of someone lacking in ethical standards.

One of the office personnel (female) chases the accounts manager around the office (male) as if she wants to corner him at the agency I worked at. I can imagine what she did with patients and what her husband would think if he were to walk in on this like the rest of us do. Certainly provides a plausible reason why little gets done around there.

What you do on your own time and who you do it with is your business. But when it interferes with the work process or makes other people (who can not escape the area) uncomfortable, then you have gone outside the bounds of professionalism.

Never developed those kinds of feelings for any patient -which is good, since I'm married. There are patients I started to LIKE -and even relate to, but I keep it strictly professional. If I were to bump into them outside the hospital, I'd certainly say 'hello' and maybe chat a bit. But even before I got married, I never sought romantic relations with any of my patients -though there were some who had asked me, I still kept that as a professional-level contact. Too many problems can result if you do not.

And the cute little hat!

i have seen this, i seem to remember the ones who turned out terrible but each case is different...just remember the advise given above..keep it professional until discharge

Before I was a nurse, I worked in a cardiology office. We had a pt who was a detective, he was fine!! I remember when he had a Holter monitor, came in to have it taken off. Well, he has to take off his shirt, and there it is, him with no shirt, looking great I might add, and his gun in the holster off to his side. Nice.................;)

See, this is why i'm going into peds. I'm married, they're married, its all good. (omg, i can hear the wheels spinning in some of your heads!! lmao!)

Really though...whatever you choose, just keep in mind to be professional and be discreet...

Yeah, my wife says she always gets turned on when she sees me handling my firearms as well. :) Come to think of it, when she handles HER handguns, I kind of get turned on too (grin).
