Hey everyody,
I was curious to know if anyody had to take ATI tests in their school of nursing especially to move forward in the last semester.I mean did you have to pass the ATI test before doing preceptorship in the last semester? If yes, how did you study for that exam. What happens if you cannot pass the exam?
OK, I am gonna come out and say it... this ATI business is a load of crap!
THERE, I said it! I am very frustrated that my program has instituted this ridiculous test in the very middle of out program AND made it part of our grade! GRRRR
I am so burnt up about it that I can't see straight! Only 2 semesters before graduation and they spring ANOTHER test on us...something completely new out of left field...as if we aren't busy enough! :angryfire
GRRRRRRRRR
We had ATI and had to pass it or retake it. Also we were given points added to our grades depending on our score. So people who were struggling in school had an added p[roblem when they got a low ATI score.
But like others, we didnt have to "pass ATI" in order to graduate.
Best wishes all! :)
omg... the famous ATI,, At Owens (ohio) we are required to take the ATI, if we fail to pass the test with a score of 74 or more we have to retake, if we fail a second time we are required to repeat our preceptor course if we fail a third time we will not grad.. talk about pressure.. i believe that if we fail this test and we are passing the courses then there is a problem with the course information, i don't understand how we can fail this if we are taught the correct information and we are passing the courses do you???
GOOD LUCK TO ALL THAT HAVE TO TAKE THIS
:angryfire
I had to use the ATI system. We used them all throughout the program. In the end of the program we did a pn predicter 2.0 and had to score at least a 60 in order to start preceptorship. On graduation day we had to another predicter 3.0 and shad to score at least a 60. If you could not make the score they held your board papers until u were ready. At our school our testing fee and everything was included in our tuition, so they sent everything off. We graduated Jan 17,08 and I took my boards yesterday. There is people in my class that have been PN's for a week already. The ATI tells u the rational and the likelyhood of passing. I had a 70 on both predicters. On one test it was = to a 94 and another 98% chance of passing the first time. So far everyone has passed but I am scared. It cut off on 85 questions and there were alot of questions that I was in between on answers. I am long winded but I hope I was some help.
Oh, also our standard was 60 and then it went to 67,70 and 72. On certain test but for the predicter it was 60 which is a 80% change of passing boards. Our instructor said they went up on the standard because a 60 is a 70% chance and they wanted us to be ready. We all complained but at our school we have a EXCELLENT pass rate. So far everyone has passed.

I gotta agree with previous comments. I am at Owens (Ohio) and am in second of four semesters (although I have been waiting 3+ years for a seat to open...) and they add the ATI to us again this semester. Last semester there was a "helpful" ATI thing that we had to practice on. Now, this semester, we have it again but now its a little different.
Its not on the course derscription but it is in the syllabus that we have to, every other week, take this damned test thats suppoosed to be designed to help us with areas that we may need to study harder on for the NCLEX. Great. Nice, thanks. But heres the killer part: we have to take these every other week and they are a monster. 3+ hours per test. We have 3 attempts on it and if we get less than 74% we "fail" it and have to do what is called remediation. This is an essay format covering the areas tested on in the ATI. I, like a true prodigy, failed the first one and had to do this. Never mind the approximate 7 hours I lost mind-humping my way thorugh the test...I lost another 4 hours doing the stupid remediation!!!!! On top of Pathophysiology...and Med-Surge....and Clinicals and all that paperwork...and working full-time (like alot of people)...they add this crap. Very Un-Dude.
Now, I get that they are trying to give us a tool to help us on NCLEX because they care about us..oh, wait...I'm sure the failure rate of a schools NCLEX is figured into their funding so...maybe not so mucha bout care.
My thought is that this "punishment" on something that is, basically, another class section although we get no credits for it is just wrong. If its "to help us" then give it to me. I'll use it because, get this: IM MOTIVATED TO SUCCEED!!!!!!!!! I hate being forced to do this for what is ultimately monetary reasons for the school.
We have to take the ATI exam we started in Peds and are still doing it. I really didn't like it at first but I guess its getting better. The only thing about it, is that it determines where you go for your preceptorship and most of the time it hurts our grade because its 3% of our grade. Does anyone else school do this, calculate the ATI as part of your grade? Also, we took a NClex predictor on there which basically tells you your chances of passing the NClex as stated before. I have some ATI codes actually because our school gives them to us if you would like to focus on an area just let me know, maybe they are codes that everyone uses.
Yep, ATI....another company MAKING $$$$$$ off of us along with the schools!!!
Yes, I think it is nice to see your scores and to see where you stand, but when it is mandatory to pass before graduating?...it is just another $$$ scheme, and why SOULD we need to pass their test before graduating from a college that should of taught us all of this???...I still say toooooooooo many schools burden the students with toooo much paper work to really be able to study...please someone tell me the validity of this...Why can't the school just teach us the things we need to learn to pass the Nclex...other countries don't seem to have problems with turning out trained nurses??????

We had to take the ATI program tests for each section with greater than 70% to pass. If we didn't then we had to remidiate the non-proctored test and get 90% within a time frame. I never did the practice tests ahead of time because they can freak you out. They seem to have more difficult questions and you can over-think the questions. Good luck!
