ATI test

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hey everyody,

I was curious to know if anyody had to take ATI tests in their school of nursing especially to move forward in the last semester.I mean did you have to pass the ATI test before doing preceptorship in the last semester? If yes, how did you study for that exam. What happens if you cannot pass the exam?

Perhaps we need to voice our thoughts to AWHONN.....................who is going to stand up for our student rights..I should have a PhD...by now....this nursing school is beginning to be like some kind of doctorate degree??..Am I alone thinking this??????????????:typing:uhoh21:

I can totally agree! Our school sprung ATI on us the last semester. We had taken HESI up until that poing..and we had to pass it to graduate as well, with a 75%. We were required to take 17 online practice tests, and pass them with a 100% in order to even sit for the exam (and they told us that two weeks before they were due). We had three chances to take and pass it, and it also counted as 5% of our grade. Each class also had their own ATI test that counted as 5% of our grade, although we did not have to pass those. Just one more thing to do...i didnt do so well on mine, and it said i had a 99% chance of passing the NCLEX (which i did). I look at it this way..we manage to get out of school, and have to take NCLEX to get a license..why should we have to do all these extra tests, that can only hinder out chances of graduating..

OH, my goodness...what I thought is happening is really happening!!!..you would think we were becoming some kinda..CEO....What happened to what to really take care of people...And I know that ATI is now trying to sell a book "to pass their test"...think of the millions of dollars$$$$$$......Why can't the Nursing program we pay for do their job......maybe this is why the USA is turning out dummies..lol ME included!!...............I would never deny this!!...If I was in-charge it would be a total different type of teaching...Wonder what has happened???? I know the instructors aren't making big bucks...maybe they have stock in ATI?????....lol.....

This is how it worked for us:

Take test number one (which was conveniently scheduled for a day we did not have a class, so we had to find childcare, call into work, etc...). If you passed, great, if not...you had to get the test report that told what areas you are weak in, and make note cards for each section and subsection (basically, if you were weak in cardiac, you had to make notecards on everything cardiac). These had to be turned in and reviewed with the instructor before taking it the second time.

Test number two..if you failed, you had to do the same as if you failed the first time, as well as participate in a live online tutoring session given by ATI (which cost about 400 bucks, that we had to pay for). You were not able to take the third test until the tutor said you were ready, which could have easily been after graduation, since the second test was given the week before finals.

If you took it the third time and failed, you didnt graduate. It was a MESS!!! there were so many head on run ins with the higher ups over this!!! Only one person had to take it the third time, and she did pass. They gave us study books...a WEEK before we tested!

This ATI almost seems illegal with schools. I know that we choose to go to these schools under the pretense of these exit exams (well, some of us, and others it is conveniently "sprung upon"), but how do they get away with making it a requirement to pass. It is not part of the curriculum and it is something that we as students have to pay for. I just do not understand how "legally" they can do it.

I meant a requirement to graduate....not only to pass.

I agree and if we don't speak out soon...the ATI company that wants $$..and maybe paying the colleges...will ruin it all for us....WHY CAN'T THE INSTUCTORS TEACH US , WHAT WE NEED TO LEARN THE NECLEX..ISN'T THAT WHAT US AND THE USA GOVERMENT PAYS THEM FOR???......I PAY FOR MY OWN EDUCATION...BUT I BELIEVE ATI IS INFRINGING...I REALLY BELIEVE THEM TO NOT BE OR SHOULD BE ALLOWED!!!..ANOTHER TEST!!!????...AND HOW COME YOU GO TO SCHOOL IN THE PHILLIPHINES AND YOU HAVE A $10.000 SIGN ON AND THEY CAN GRADUATE SCHOOL BEFORE US AND GET OUR JOBS..WHY CAN'T THIS COUNTRY OPEN THEIR EYES.....

I do see how this ATI is there to protect and cover the instructors a** and the school, because if students do not pass on the first time on the NCLEX, they can go back and have proof that they "did their job" and gave the student all useful tools to help pass the NCLEX 1st time around.

BUT.....where is the protection for the students? We are the ones paying for this education. And what I really like, is that our instructors do not teach the ATI, and the folks at ATI have NOTHING to prepare you for their exams, except their books. Well, why in H@LL was I forced to buy my nursing textbooks from the bookstore and the instructors used those books to teach us out of and not the ATI textbooks from which we are going to have our comprehensive exit exam (that if we do not pass we dont graduate, we have 3 chances and must score a 95% probablity or better)!!!! And if you have noticed, the ATI has a lot of different values from those in the standard nursing Med Surge textbooks.

I have completed my 4 semesters and have taken all my finals, but am preparing to take the ATI exit exam on the 27th. What further blew my mind was that the instructors have already seen the exam, and all they say is to do more NCLEX questions and that it looks REALLY HARD?!?!?!? Thanks....I think.:spbox:

Hey Rollin, it would be good to have a study guide, whats a P.M.?....:redpinkhe

Am sitting for the test iN May,can anybody help with the test and idea to pass.:yeah:

Are you people serious? I have to take and pass the ATI test with a 75 or above before I can enter the LPN program. Is there different ATI test or what?

Someone above asked what is the best way to study for the ATI predictor test. There is no way really. Nursing school in general has prepared you. If you have done Ok all along, you should be fine. I did not study that much for it, did well on all the exams and got a 92 for my prediction for passing NCLEX 1st time around. I did, however, do ALL the practice tests. That's the best advice I can give. Do ALL the practice tests.

By the way, does anyone know anyone who got a 92 on ATI and passed boards on the 1st attempt? I hear 98, 99... anyone get a 92 and pass??

THANKS! E :D
