ASU Summer 2010 Program Applicants

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hello, everyone!

I submitted my application for the accelerated Summer 2010 program at ASU awhile ago, but I just realized that the February 1st deadline was coming up and wanted to see if anyone else here on allnurses.com applied or is applying. I'm so nervous, I've already applied once and didn't make it--I really, really, really, REALLY hope I can get in this time. :uhoh3:

I'm already starting to get impatient waiting for April!!! My whole life is on hold until then! I hate that I can't apply to any other schools because I'm stuck waiting for ASU and I don't want to pay a bunch of application fees if I make it into ASU regardless. :( Don't get me wrong, though, I really want to get into ASU's program. I just want to get into nursing, really. It's just a little annoying that we will find out about getting into the program so late in the year :banghead:.

Regardless, GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! :heartbeat

What scores are you all applying with?

So, we'll only be reading like 100 pages per week for that class... haha!

rofl.gif I needed that!

And Yea Airborne that is what happened to me with FA. So dumb I totally forgot there was a limit but they definitely shouldnt have put up the amounts like that. Im so mad because I had 1700 left over from the year and I paid it back when I found out how much I was getting this semster. Stupid mistake on our part trusting that it would be right.

Yeah, I went from "getting" $11,000 to just the $2,000 Nursing Grant!!! HAHAHA!!! I had already spent like half of it in my head despite trying to convince myself that it wasn't going to happen. I mean, what if I thought Summer was part of next years limits or whatever and had spent money thinking that was coming. I would be furious. I think heads need to roll at the FA office. That is just the most absurd thing I have ever heard of by giving an award amount only to say, "wait, after actually doing the work we are supposed to do, we need to reduce that!"

About the YMCA: All you do is go to the Y and tell them you're an ASU student. You give them your sun card, let them put you in the system, and they take your photo and print you a YMCA card. I've been working out there for FREE for the past few yrs. Also, you can ask for a YMCA sticker so that you can park in their lot. They have a lot of cool things there like new machines, FREE classes (yoga, kickboxing, cycle, dance, etc.). Definitely recommend checking it out. Drive down 3rd ave and Van Buren and you'll run right into it. Hope this helps!

Almost all of our classes are online now!!! I have all except NUR 330 up on Blackboard! :D

But don't worry about it and the tests! I'm sure you will do great and you always have all of us to help you out as much as needed. We already have a great group of people to look to when we need help so we are already one step ahead here.

Thanks for the reassurances! :) Yeah, I didn't really think about all the support that we're all going to get from each other. Woo hoo for multitudes of study sessions!!! We'll have practically all of the Downtown campus at our disposal--there aren't many summer classes Downtown. We'll have free reign of the study rooms and library! Woot!

I think I will bring my books. Call me crazy, but I just won't feel right without them. Your probably right. We won't need them and I'll carry them for nothing, but I dunno. I'll be toughing it that day.

haha! More power to you! I hope you have a strong backpack :p I wasn't initially going to bring my laptop on the first day, but I think I'm going to now. I'll register all my ebooks later today and get all my notes together. :)

So hey, at the welcome meeting, I thought I remember them saying something about us having access to some YMCA gym there at the downtown campus. Does anyone know any information about this?? Might be a good way to wake my butt up in the mornings! haha :D

Yep! We get free access to the YMCA! I *think* it's on 1st ave and Van Buren, pretty close to UCENT! We get free access to YMCA since ASU Downtown doesn't have a gym. The YMCA is pretty neat, too! They have a lot of equipment and free access to classes. There are like 3 pools there, too! It's a lotta fun!

I wouldn't bring your books the first day, they dont do any actual lecturing the first day. Its a whole day packed full of info telling you about the program, introductions, and get-to-know-you activities. Also, I read from the text books probably twice the entire semester. The books are a good go to if you need extra info if you dont understand something but other than almost no one actually read before class. In fact, with one teacher it was a constant joke, she'd say things like "this is in the book, you know that thing with the wrapper still on it". haha So ya dont be too intimidated by the amount of chapters it says to read every day. The important info from the chapters are in the power points anyway.

Good luck on monday! :D

FINE! I won't bring my books.... :p Maybe the laptop tho.

And thanks for the info Sabrina and Bethany! I think with how early we have to be in that I might have to go work out just to wake myself up enough to make it through classes otherwise I will be dead to the world. Now I just need some workout buddies! :)

Has anyone looked at the Junior 1 calendar that is under NUR 394 on blackboard? It has only D7-12 on it and I was assigned D4 as my learning community and it's not on there. I'm a bit confused.....

Really?! NUR 310 has a list of chapters we're supposed to read before each class! I was going to start reading the chapters we're supposed to have read before class on Monday in just a bit.... Or realistically just open the books and look at the pictures lol!

Ohmygosh, you want to work out before class?! hahaha... I'm going to have to work myself up to that; I definitely don't think I can wake up early enough to work out before class! Maybe once I get used to waking up so early? :uhoh3: haha :zzzzz

I noticed that, too!! I'm also in D4 as well!!! :) I know there are other people in D2, so I'm not sure what's up with leaving the lower numbers out. Maybe it has to do with the professor who posted the syllabus versus the actual FOR's? Or it might just be a typo... idk. But that worried me as well, I'm glad someone else noticed it!

LOL!! Yeah I doubt I will be doing it week one, but after that I may start. I'm going to hold you to it! You will be in the gym with me in the morning eventually! You're dealing with an Army guy remember? :) I'll make sure you do it!

But you'd be surprised how a good little workout will wake you right up. No need for coffee or red bull or nothing. We used to always do PT (physical training) first thing in the morning at like 6:30 and as tired as I was going in so early, by the time we were done I felt energized.

If you are going to crack open the text book, then for 310 (Edelman and Mandle) I'd really suggest reading the boxes of info on the pages, not just straight text. If you're just trying to skim I mean. You have a different teacher for 310 than we had so I dont want to tell you not to read them completely because maybe her tests are based more on the text? But im just saying if you cant fit in the time to read 10 chapters then dont stress about it. The power points SHOULD be enough.

Did anyone else have problems downloading the eBook software onto your computers? It says there is an unrecoverable error and won't open. I'm probably going to have to wind up calling Tech Support, but I'd rather not.... :uhoh3: I'm going to try re-installing it, but the error seems really weird. I hope it's not because I'm on my 64-bit laptop... :'( That would be sad if it doesn't work on here!! lol

Just curious if anyone else has tried it and it has worked/didn't work

We have different teachers? Oh dang, that sucks. Yeah, we have like 3 different readings and a video to watch for tomorrow's 310 class. :( I'm just going to go ahead and do them and then see how class goes tomorrow!

No problems on 64-bit Windows 7 here. You should also be able to view them online without the installed program too. I wish they were regular e-books so I could download them on my iPad, but I guess I will just have to rely on the internet viewings on there.
