ASU Summer 2010 Program Applicants

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hello, everyone!

I submitted my application for the accelerated Summer 2010 program at ASU awhile ago, but I just realized that the February 1st deadline was coming up and wanted to see if anyone else here on allnurses.com applied or is applying. I'm so nervous, I've already applied once and didn't make it--I really, really, really, REALLY hope I can get in this time. :uhoh3:

I'm already starting to get impatient waiting for April!!! My whole life is on hold until then! I hate that I can't apply to any other schools because I'm stuck waiting for ASU and I don't want to pay a bunch of application fees if I make it into ASU regardless. :( Don't get me wrong, though, I really want to get into ASU's program. I just want to get into nursing, really. It's just a little annoying that we will find out about getting into the program so late in the year :banghead:.

Regardless, GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! :heartbeat

What scores are you all applying with?

No problems on 64-bit Windows 7 here. You should also be able to view them online without the installed program too. I wish they were regular e-books so I could download them on my iPad, but I guess I will just have to rely on the internet viewings on there.

Yeah, I know I can view them online without the program, and that's working fine. I just wanted that program so that I wouldn't have to be dependent on the internet to get them (like when my family and I go camping on Memorial Day weekend so I don't have to lug my books around!). But it's SUPPOSED to work, you go to VitalSource Technologies, Inc. - Evolve eBooks and you can download the program that will let you do that; PLUS they have it for OS X 10.4 or later so I would assume it should work on your iPad. Try it out! It still won't work on my laptop though :'(

Hi Everyone!

Although I'm not a part of the ASU summer program, i have been reading your posts almost daily and wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS!! I have felt your excitement throughout the months. I,too, will be starting in August at Scottsdale CC and am very excited to begin myself.

Good luck tomorrow on your first day!! Best wishes!

Thanks for the good luck wishes!! :) Good luck to you in August! The MCCCD programs are really good programs, I just couldn't imagine waiting for so long! You're one tough cookie for patiently waiting to get in. I heard it can take up to 2 years to get into some of the programs! I would go nuts if I had to wait that long... haha

Aw, dang. I just downloaded the eBook thing to my desktop and it worked. So there must be something wrong with my laptop because I've tried installing it 3 different times and it always came up with the "unrecoverable error." :( Lamesauce.

Hi RN2BE-

Congrats to you too! I was also in line in the CC program. How long did you wait until you found out that you got in? Get ready -- August will be here in no time!

Take care!

Thanks for popping in and wishing us all luck! Enjoy your summer and soon you will be right there with us!

iPad runs only apps like the iPhone or iPod. There is an app in the works to read the VitalSource eBooks, but wont be here till Fall I guess.

You crack me up!

What is it your laptop is saying? I assume you have restarted it and it still isn't working....

So just finished watching the video for 310 and doing the reading there, then decided to see what was in store for 394/312 and HOLY CRAP theres like 70+ pages to read. Guess I will just skim through those tonight. :uhoh3:

Try downloading the actual VitalSource bookshelf and then just copy the .VBK files from your desktop to your laptop and see if that works?!?!

Hey PineappleCrush-

I e-mailed our FOR because I need to leave early one of the days and she referred to our LC as D8. I'm really confused because I e-mailed one of the advisors and she said that I was in D4 and that the schedule for NUR 394 had made a mistake putting D7-12. I'm so lost! So I guess we are in D8

hi azapplicant,

i waited about 1 and 1/2 years. it worked out because i was only going part time taking the remaining coreq classes as well as classes for asu transfer through the alliance program. i'm definitely looking forward to getting each semester done and moving on.

going to be 38 this years..so i'm figuring...right before i turn 40..lol..i'll receive the adn, then by 41..bsn..then by 45..who knows...np, pa, ....

thanks for popping in and wishing us all luck! enjoy your summer and soon you will be right there with us!

very welcome! i have to say, most of the emotions everyone has been stating..are the same ones i've been going through. i've actually gone out and already purchased my scrubs..lol. i have a box labeled "nursing school" that contains items i have purchased so far and just keep adding to it...lol. shoes, scrubs, pens, paper, highlighters, paper, etc.

I am having such a hard time even just getting on the ASU website! This is making me go crazy! I tried getting on blackboard yesterday and it wouldn't show up anything and now that I learned that we have chapters to read and a movie to watch the website is not working!!!!!!!!! Aghhhhhh is anyone having the same problem? Can someone please tell me the chapters that we are supposed to read and what movie we are supposed to watch just in case I still can't get my thing to work?:confused::banghead::sniff:

I hope you all have a great day tomorrow, let us know how it goes! :)

Here ya go ladies! :)

I will post the reading assignments, but honestly, the reading for 394/312 is insane. I'm only going to skim those since I have yet to read them. Also, I wouldn't stress it because I'm sure MOST people don't even know there is reading to do. But probably wouldn't hurt either.

310:

Communication in Nursing (Riley) Chapter 1

Fundamentals of Nursing (Potter/Perry) pg 343-346

Health Promotion Throughout the Lifespan (Edelman/Mandle) pg 96-100

**Also need to watch this video (25 mins long): http://mms://msmedia.asu.edu/CONHI_Learning_Resources_Cente/epennock/third_party_videos/Confidentiality.wmv

312/394:

Fundamentals of Nursing (Potter/Perry) Saftey pg 5, Client saftey 811-848, Overview of infection control 642-674.

Also probably need to bring in the "booklet" thing for the Nursing Skills Online for the code. We are doing the introduction to that tomorrow.

**Also it says on one of the pages to get blackboard direct go to http://myasucourses-pilot.asu.edu (Maybe that will work for ya??)

I really wouldn't sweat the readings since there are widespread Blackboard problems and they aren't exactly clear as to when they're due (and I have to say it's not really fair to have assignments due before class starts when half the students can't even access the classes), but here they are:

For NUR 310:

Edelman & Mandle pp 96-100

Perry & Potter pp 343-346

Riley: Communication in nursing chapter 1

And there was also a video about HIPPA, which can be found here (although idk if the link will work):

mms://msmedia.asu.edu/CONHI_Learning_Resources_Cente/epennock/third_party_videos/Confidentiality.wmv

For NUR 394:

Review Perry/Potter: Safety page 5 and Chapter 38 Client Safety p. 811-848; Overview of Infection Control, pp. 642-674

NSO: Nursing Skills Online Tutorial (on Blackboard)
