Hello, everyone!
I submitted my application for the accelerated Summer 2010 program at ASU awhile ago, but I just realized that the February 1st deadline was coming up and wanted to see if anyone else here on allnurses.com applied or is applying. I'm so nervous, I've already applied once and didn't make it--I really, really, really, REALLY hope I can get in this time.
I'm already starting to get impatient waiting for April!!! My whole life is on hold until then! I hate that I can't apply to any other schools because I'm stuck waiting for ASU and I don't want to pay a bunch of application fees if I make it into ASU regardless. Don't get me wrong, though, I really want to get into ASU's program. I just want to get into nursing, really. It's just a little annoying that we will find out about getting into the program so late in the year
.
Regardless, GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! :heartbeat
What scores are you all applying with?
I am FLOORED! I feel so bad that it has gone up so much for you guys. I wonder if they added more books to it but from what I remember, I only had to pay around $400-500 for my JR1 package. I, too, remember a lot of ppl who didn't purchase the bundle wishing they had because purchasing the ebooks separately was such a hassle for them. I bought the bundle in JR1 because it was just a little less off my back to worry about, and then for the proceeding semesters I just bought books off of Amazon as they were much cheaper. I guess I'm trying to say if you can dish out the $900 I would get it just because the ebooks that comes with it is indeed helpful and it's a lot less of a hassle esp. it being the first semester of the program. I hope that was helpful =) Good luck!
@ittran~ I bought ebooks the first semester and it was way more costly than purchasing them on Amazon. They were great because you could easily look up specific words on assignments, the program has the ability to read to you (though not well) and they also came with the my nursing lab (which you can get separately). Since then I haven't bought them because the expense is just ridiculous!
If I were to do it all over again, I probably wouldn't have bought them. I've gotten by without it for the past two semesters just fine and to tell you the truth, most people don't even read them. We typically only use them for citing or to look up specific items that you don't understand.
Hope that helps! Congrats & Good luck! It will be hard at times, but it will fly by in no time. :)
900 dollars is ridiculous. I regret even paying the 400-500 dollars I spent when I started the program. The only benefit to getting the package (which didn't always have all of the books we needed) is the addition of the textbooks online, which were nice for searching and referencing, but not worth the extra money you pay to save a few minutes paging through a textbook that you may or may not actually read. since my first semester, I haven't bought the package and things have gone smashingly.
^highly opinionated. your experiences may vary.
Hello! Sorry to bug you all since you've all graduated now, but I just have a quick question!
I was recently accepted into the BSN program for Spring 2012 Does ASU care what stethoscope we use throughout the program? And also, are we able to buy those awesome white pants (sarcasm completely intended) from other vendors, or does it have to be through ASU?
Thanks! And I hope all of your nursing careers are going awesomely!
You're welcome :) usually CCNS (college council of nursing students) pairs up a jr 1 with a student further along in the program to help provide info and answer questions but for some reason the last 2 students I was paired with never responded or asked me any questions. Idk why because I would have loved that if I was offered it during my jr 1 semester. So if you have any questions now or throughout the program feel free to ask here or message me on here and I'd be happy to help
Thanks so much, Tarabara! I have so many questions, but I want to wait and see if they're answered at the welcome meeting in December before I bug you with all of them!
And hi, plysikow! I started a thread for all new ASU Spring 2012 nursing students, but nobody has replied! Maybe you and I can get things going on there?
Yay Nursing!

Wow that is definitly out of control! I remember it being up there though
I was in your same shoes and really needed to save money, but because of the special software we needed for the fundamentals of nursing book and all of the complications peope had with buying the wrong one I was really happy I ended up buying the bundle, it saved me a lot of hassle. Also, the ebooks are simply amazing!!! I still use mine from Junior 1 since they are so accessable! It makes assignments soooo much easier because you can search the entire book with keywords on your computer! It's also soo much easier on our poor backs haha not having to carry them around. We didn't need them a whole lot in class, but its so nice if you have any down time between classes to be able to work on home work. Honestly, its really up to how much you can save on the books and if its worth the convenience the ebooks have. One option that I thought of is with buying the ebooks you can always sell the hard copies immediately if you want to. You can get a pretty good amount for them being brand new on ebay or amazon! I know there were a few people that didn't buy the bundle in our class this semester, but most of them wished they had. I didn't end up buying the package junior 2 or senior 1 because there weren't many books in it and the price difference wasn't worth it, but I always wish I had the ebooks, but at the time saving that much money was worth it to me. If there's any semester I recommend buying the package for its definitely junior 1, the rest you can get by without much hassle without it. I hope this helps! I know I kind of have mixed feelings about it. Ohhh And CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!
