Now that many of you that were affected by the retrogression have now received green cards and will be arriving in the US soon, I think that we should now have a thread focusing on that. As well as for all of the others from different countries.
Where to go to purchase initial items that will be needed. What to expect the first weeks of being a new resident in the US, etc. Many of us have are special places to find things.
hi! I just recently passed my NCLEX and IELTS, the immigration process has started, so my family and i are waiting for the Greencards to be granted. (we are from germany)
i'm so glad that i've "stumbled" across this website:) it's going to be so useful and so much fun.....
i signed with an agency to help with all the papers and deadlines. i just didn't think we'd be able to manage by ourselves. and it is helpful to have somebody around who knows what they are doing. it's been a relatively smooth ride up 'till now.
i am a bit apprehensive how my husband (who is also a nurse but after 15 years just has had it and wants to try something new) and my two kids are going to adjust. and me too of course. the thought that now i'll be the main bread winner is a bit disconcerting.
we have no idea where we will end up. it has to be somewhere warm and somewhere child friendly, other than that we are pretty flexible.
it is nervewracking, though waiting and wondering. and thinking of what will be......
but going through the forums, reading both the funny and the sad and getting all kinds of information about what nursing is like in the u.s. is definetley going to make the waiting easier.
thanks to everybody out there!

Hi,
Just want to say welcome to all nurses and good luck with your process. I am at the end of the process now and I have found this nursing site to be invaluable to me on my journey. I leave to go to Az on thursday morning so you can only imagine my nerves. My new journey begins.
Hi Kersti,
I am also from Germany, we live in Massachusetts.
My kids adjusted easily and are very happy here although I had some concerns regarding language issues.
It is a different culture and it took some time to get used to some things, especially that we are used to live with a lot of security in europe when it comes to health insurance, social security etc..
If you want to talk in German, send me a pm!

Hi Guys; I'm in Nj now, waiting to take NCLEX next week. but I have some questions that maybe some of you could answer. what about purchaising a used car. I mean, besides the cost of the car, what other expenses would I have.
And regarding mortgages, how it exactly works. See i,ve reading the newspaper and it seems very easy, but I can'tiamgine how it really works. Should I have to pay a big part of the property?
Thank you,
If you purchase a car, you will also need to get insurance for the car. Depending on the type of the car, adn where you are living, that can almost equal the monthly payment on the car. You will be responsible for any type of maintenance for the car as well.
As far as mortgage, the easiest thing that I can suggest is to speak with a broker, they can tell you exactly what type of house that you would qualify for, what the payments would be, and what type of down payment is needed. There are many factors that go into this, and the easiest is to speka to someone driectly about it.
Hi! Hope someone can answer my questions. I am not sure if I can ask this here, but I have tried other forums but got no response.
I am from the Philippines and I would just like to know if I can bring Rocky, my 1 year old shih tzu (dog), with me when I go to the states? Does anybody know the requirements? Is there a quarantine period? If so, how long? What are the required papers? How much would it cost? Airfare?
If anyone knows the US webiste where I can get my answers, I would really appreciate it.
Rocky is family and we would hate to leave him behind.
Hope someone can help me.
Thanks! :)
(Really sorry if the question is out of place. I dont know who/where else to ask)

Yes you can take your dog I am not sure on any requirements but will need rabies vacs in most states. Price will depend on airline, don't think there is any quarantine
No issues at all with immigration for Rocky into the US. Both of my kids, the Yorkies, were born in Thailand, and brought over by me.
You want to make sure that he goes in the cabin with you, so pick your airline according to that. You do not want him to have to fly below with the luggage. NWA allows this, without any issues. You just need to make a reservation for him, as they only permit one pet per cabin on the flights. I paid $129 for the flight, it I remember correctly for each one. You also need to get a health certificate from your vet within 10 days of the flight, not sure if your government requires a document from the vet at the airport as well. Thailand does. Up to date shots are all that you need for him otherwise.

There is so much to decide. She has an agent, but they want her to pick a state? Does the agent have any suggestions for her, or is she expected to find her own place? Is this an agency that she signed with?
There is so much that goes into picking a place. Cost of living is one thing to consider right off the top. Does she like the snow or cold weather? Does she like the Ocean, or is she happy with having lakes nearby. Does she like the mountains?
