Hello, I am trying to get some advice about dealing with a slow recruiter. I have been trying to join the army reserve nurse corps for some time now but my recruiter seems to drag his heels every step of the way. I have had my application completed, passed the physical and passed my nclex but still have not had my application submitted to the board. Last month he kept saying there is plenty of time and my application would be submitted for the july board. Well low and behold when I called the other day he said that before the application was submitted to the board he had to have a unit. I was then told that the army reserve offers some type of opportunity to where you are not assigned to any one particular unit but that he had sent in a request over a week and they sat on his request. Does anyone know about that type of opportunity ? Also can anyone offer any help in trying to deal with a slow recruiter ?, He also told me that regardless of if my application got in july or aug I would not be going to OBLC until 2009 that it is full until after the first of the year. HELP or ADVICE will be appreciated !!!!!!!!!, Littlesiss

Contact another recruiting station and ask for the regional amedd recruiter.

he is probally talking about the IMA (individual mobilization augmentee). you just kinda join a pool of available nurses and they can call you up when needed. you only drill for two weeks a year. recruiters generally are go getters and it would only hurt himself to drag out the process. unless of course he already filled a certain quota and wanted you to fill a quota for the next month/quater, but i'm not sure how that works. be firm with him!!!!! ask direct questions.......what is the hold up????

Hi LSO4,

On the OBLC issue---I can contribute alittle here.....There are two OBLC sessions for Army Reserve left before 2009:

15 Aug 2008 to 09 Sep 200---127 (enrolled currently)

31 Oct 2008 to 25 Nov 200---unknown enrolled (new fiscal year)

See link for 2009 classes:

https://atrrs.army.mil/atrrscc/courseInfo.aspx?fy=2009&sch=081&crs=6-8-C20(RC)&crstitle=AMEDD+OFFICER+BASIC+(RC)+(OBLC)&phase=2

The "timeline" for application submission, then acceptance, then commission and finally the 30-60 day wait for "orders" is lengthy.

I submitted in Feb 20th, comissioned April 22 and recieved orders June 20th. I am "theoretically" going to OBLC in Aug., but they wanted to schedule me for next summer!!! My packet had some waivers, but it was still a pretty fast turn around.

Your recruiter is probably right. If you submit your packet now, and it is accepted for July (!). You many not commission unitl Aug or Sept, then you would really be lucky to get to OBLC by Oct (with waiting for orders)..... just a thought. The January class may be open though....

Keep on your recruiter, good luck,

cb

If your recruiter isn't helping, find another. My first recruiter told me I couldn't get in and wouldn't try and get me a med waiver. I didn't give up and switched recruiters and now i'm in! Just keep at it. This is your career...you need to look out for you! :)

Thank You everyone for all the help. I met with my recruiter the other day and signed papers for the board. He said we might get luckey and make the july board but if not then the aug board. I had no idea when this venture began that the journey would take so long. He also found me a unit in Beaver,WV which is about 2hrs from here. I am just happy and excited that some progress has begun. Also, No, I have no waivers so I am hoping my app will go okay but have learned anything is possible !!!, Once again Thank You all for your help and advice it is so nice to be able to get insight from those who have been in our shoes !!!, Littlesiss

Did you make it to the board? I'm kind of frustrated with my recruiter also! My application went to the board in July but had some wrong information so was rejected. My recruiter didn't call me for corrections just seemed to say--"Oh well" we'll do it next month. I was livid...I have to initiate all conversations and stay on top of her if I want anything to get done. I was hoping to get into the October OBLC and remain optimistic but will call her daily as it gets close to August board time. My fingers are crossed but if she screws up my chances this time... I'll request that the station commander get involved. Good luck, maybe I'll see you at FSH in October.

Hello, Yes right after my application was submitted I received word and there was a correction that had to be made which was made asap as they wanted me to commission in july so things were hurry up. I commissioned last week and now my process of the waiting game begins. As far as OBLC school from my understanding there is a slim to none chance of getting in the oct class as it fills up fast.So we are looking more towards the first of the year. I just found out yesterday by my recruiter that once I receive my orders I have to attend APMC in Georgia for processing which lasts about 4 days. This was new information to me since I was told by my recruiter that I only had to attend OBLC for 4wks. I am not worried as my employeer supports the armed forces. Good Luck to you !!!!!

My packet is going in for the Oct board. Have you heard when you will be going to OBLC? Beaver WV was one of the units the recruiter was telling me about. The other near Pittsburgh.

Hi LS04,

"I just found out yesterday by my recruiter that once I receive my orders I have to attend APMC in Georgia for processing which lasts about 4 days. This was new information to me since I was told by my recruiter that I only had to attend OBLC for 4wks."

What is APMC? I haven't heard about this. I just found out there is some snaf-foo with my OBLC application (Oct)---"still sitting at Level one"--which is apparently not good. My unit is befuddled---they and ARMD/HRC are wondering what the hold up is about....

Olderthendirt2,

I found this via a google search.... according to this link it looks like a mandatory briefing requirement that they scheduled you for - link explains a bit more and might provide some insight. There is often a lag time from the arrival where in-processing is conducted and the start of something like OBC.... wahoo!

hope this helps,

Thanks so much MMFS,

I had not heard of that term until you wrote about it and today in BA.

No one has said anything about the APMC sessions. But they look like they are required.

I am pretty much on my own, in my unit--guess I better ask about it!! :)

thanks again,

cb
