  1. Hi, I am going to the 5 January class and hope to get some clarification from recent graduates. My first question...should I buy a new recruit duffel bag to put all of the uniforms and stuff into or would the ACU luggage work. I have heard several people say that we have to carry around what we bring and want to carry the least amount of equipment possible. Next question... I have commissioned reserve and set up my ako account. When can I get my ID card? My recruiter says that I have to wait until I get to Ft Sam but my older officer friends tell me that I should have it when I get there. And last but not least... will we be able to fly out during the (2) 4-day weekends that we have? My son leaves for Korea during the first 4-day and I would love to see him off safely from Augusta, GA. Thanks to everyone for the good information on the upcoming events. I'm really starting to get excited!
  2. Congratulations! My class date was cancelled last week. They rescheduled me for the January class due to over booking. They are giving me the opportunity to go directly to my duty assignment. I picked Walter Reed in the Warrior Transition Battalion as a Case Manager. I'm currently working with wounded warriors and the transition should be pretty smooth. I wish you luck and am looking forward to going. Oh by the way... what was that uniform bill? I'll still have to get everything on the list before I leave for Washington, DC. I'm not prepared for the sticker shock of all the uniforms so let me brace myself!! Where are you going after OBLC?
  3. Are you talking about the class verification? I got mine last week along with a phone call from branch asking where I wanted to be stationed. I did print off the class schedule after going to the OBLC website. I still don't have any orders either. I haven't even commissioned yet because I'm still waiting on a waiver. A lady that I spoke with who scheduled the class date said not to worry, everything will happen before the class date. I hope so!
  4. I guess I'll see you there!!!! I got verification of Oct 14 OBLC on Tuesday and will be assigned to Walter Reed afterwards. I had pretty much given up on October and planned on leaving in January. Now I have to go back and re-plan. I'm excited though---how are you feeling? At least you'll be there with a friend!
  5. I just got my MSN this year and will commission as a reserve 1LT until I go AD as a CPT. My application was approved last month but I have an outstanding speeding ticket so I have to wait until it is settled before I can move forward. I have 11 years nursing experience and 10 years prior service (enlisted). I don't think that I would have gone in for less than CPT because I think that I have too much experience for anything less. Another thing... I currently work as a civilian nurse on an Army post with previous Head Nurse experience there. They probably took all of that into consideration. But... I'm still twittling my thumbs waiting to commission! Good Luck!!
  6. Yeah!! (I think?!) I was approved by the board last week but I am still awaiting a waiver. Who knows how long that will take. When it finally does come back... I will commision AR 1LT then CPT when I am AD. I still have my fingers crossed for October's OBLC even though it may be asking too much. Still looking forward to meeting you in San Antonio....
  7. Did you make it to the board? I'm kind of frustrated with my recruiter also! My application went to the board in July but had some wrong information so was rejected. My recruiter didn't call me for corrections just seemed to say--"Oh well" we'll do it next month. I was livid...I have to initiate all conversations and stay on top of her if I want anything to get done. I was hoping to get into the October OBLC and remain optimistic but will call her daily as it gets close to August board time. My fingers are crossed but if she screws up my chances this time... I'll request that the station commander get involved. Good luck, maybe I'll see you at FSH in October.
  8. Congratulations on your commission! My application will go before the board on the 19th. I'm hoping to be at the October OBLC. Curious...are you going in as a CPT? I have my MSN and 11 years experience but they said I may have to go in as a 1LT. I hope not!!! Hope to see you in TX!
  9. JDCitizen, I'll be going into the Army. I also have DoD experience at Ft Bragg. I have been Head Nurse of an outpatient clinic and currently work as a Case Manager in the Warrior Transition Battalion. I have plenty of experience with military facilities and want to be ranked with my peers not looked at as a "brand new" nurse. Thanks for your response!
  10. Question for anyone who can help... I have 10 years prior enlisted service. I have been a RN for 11 years--ADN in 1997, BSN in 2003 and MSN in 2008. Any ideas what my rank will be coming in? I asked the question in a previous thread but it will probably be a while before it is discovered buried deep in the discussion. My application is currently at the board. My recruiter says CPT but one of her fellow recruiters is saying CPT. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
  11. Help... I have my MSN --11 years RN experience with ADN in 1997, BSN in 2003 and MSN in 2008. What should my rank be?! Thanks for any assistance.
