Army Reserve Nurse Corps HELP !!

Published

Hello, I am trying to get some advice about dealing with a slow recruiter. I have been trying to join the army reserve nurse corps for some time now but my recruiter seems to drag his heels every step of the way. I have had my application completed, passed the physical and passed my nclex but still have not had my application submitted to the board. Last month he kept saying there is plenty of time and my application would be submitted for the july board. Well low and behold when I called the other day he said that before the application was submitted to the board he had to have a unit. I was then told that the army reserve offers some type of opportunity to where you are not assigned to any one particular unit but that he had sent in a request over a week and they sat on his request. Does anyone know about that type of opportunity ? Also can anyone offer any help in trying to deal with a slow recruiter ?, He also told me that regardless of if my application got in july or aug I would not be going to OBLC until 2009 that it is full until after the first of the year. HELP or ADVICE will be appreciated !!!!!!!!!, Littlesiss

Olderthandirt2, I found out about APMC in Georgia after I had commissioned and from what I was told and researched its for processing and is almost like orientation. It lasts about 4 days. I do not know what to expect or anything since we are still in the waiting process with my orders. Yes, My recruiter did mention Parks but Beaver had a position. I have no idea about OBLC yet since my recruiter said that would be set up once I have received my orders. I do not expect to attend OBLC until after the first of the year. I thought OBLC would be set up through the unit I will be attached with but from your statement its done at the same time your orders are written. So are you saying when I receive my orders they will have the date for me to attend OBLC ?, Yes, My recruiter is lets say slacking in the info dept. Since I commissioned in July I am hoping to hear something by the end of this month but I do know it could take up to 3mths. Hope this helps, Littlesiss004

Just Cause, Thank You so much for the link !!, From what I see they are only offering it in oct then not again until march of 09, I do know my recruiter said I had to attend before I can go to my unit so now that I see dates guess I better call my recruiter and find out some info. Thank You again, Littlesiss004

Littlesiss004,

No problem. Your recruiter has access to all course information ~ Take that link but also take give them a reminder to check ATRRS, it is the official army school scheduling system and enables someone to actually put in a school/date request, lock it in for a particular person, and reserve that seat. I am not an expert at recruiting - however at the normal Army unit level there is a trained person to utilize this system to get people slots in school - likely they have similar system.

I read what you mentioned about your unit reserving an OBC date... are you recieving orders directly to a unit? I haven't been in the nursing or medical community but know that other branches you get orders for your unit while you are at OBC - perhaps this is different with the nursing direct commission. Anyhow please post what you find out and good luck! PS remind them about ATRRS :smokin:

Littlesis,

What kind of unit is Beaver, WV?

momofabmtcs, The unit in Beaver,WV is a medical Det. Minimal Care Unit. I do not know much more because I have not been in direct contact with the unit but I do know it is a MTOE which from my understanding means deployable. Outside of that I am hoping to recieve more when the orders come in. Hope this helps, Littlesiss

Littlesis,

From my lil' experience it is funny that the only entity that has used this 'MTOE' nomenclature is within the recruiting realm and always a bit confusing to me.

MTOE is normally used in the property / accountability side of things and refers to equipment assigned to a unit...and this relates to your combat readiness (military table of organization and equipment).

TDA refers to equipment that belongs to a fixed installation, therefore doesn't have the capability to deploy itself (table of distrobution and allowances).

I just think it's confusing because aside from hearing it from recruiters, new recruits and a few times at basic training I have never heard of it - probably just because I worked in an MTOE.

Hi,

I just found out that I am not one of the people required to do APMC. One of the nurses at our unit is---but she is technically from another unit that supports Madigan (near Tacoma, Wa). She drills with us to get field experiences.

So she is classified differently than me. My LtC, has explained there are pros and cons to being classified in either group. I guess it is not up to me how I am classified....

But thanks for the information on APMC anyway!!! At least I know I am not missing something that is required...

Is your recruiter an AMEDD recruiter? If not, that is what you need to get them hopping for you on the medical department side of things. An AMEDD is really the only one that will be able to correctly answer your questions. My recruiter has been great for my region. He was like white on rice when he had gotten me to completely finish my packet, pass my MEPS, and he even got himself reprimanded a couple of times because he fought so hard to get me passed for certain things (such as a BSN issue, a MEPS snaffoo, etc). He answers every question, keeps track of me, & yet doesn't pressure me into tooooo much if he feels I'm hesitant about something. In other words, change your recruiter so your time isn't wasted. That's horrible you're having to try so hard to do what you know you want to do. Keep fighting for your place :).

Okay, Any advice will help. I still have yet to recieve orders and am frustrated !!!, I commissioned July 30th and have since called my recruiter asking if he has heard anything and he said no. How long does it usually take for orders ??, Thanks, Littlesiss004

The AMEDD recruiter handling my packet was ready to retire, and retire he did, along with losing my entire application, medical records, etc. This process has been going on for almost two years. I'm on recruiter number three now. He seems squared away, and is taking me out to Fort Indiantown Gap for my MEPS in a couple weeks. In the meantime, all bonuses are now gone, etc. I shouldn't be suprised, I retired from government service before I became a nurse, and I'm also a Navy veteran. The wheels of the military turn slowly, and in triplicate :D.

OTD,

You are a wealth of information!!! I do believe you are going to OBLC in Oct. If you haven't left yet "good luck". If you have left, don't forget us back on line who still need your input!! Love reading your messages!! Keep in touch!

Hi LSO4,

Are you reserve or active duty. I am reserve. It took about 2.5 months for my "orders" to arrive after commission. And sadly, you do not go to OBLC without your orders (or start drilling without orders).

So, sit tight and keep working out for your APFT! :)
