My two biggest pet peeves on here:

(1) Definately

(2) HIPPA (I have been known to publicly reprimand the offenders!!)

There are others, but enough for now ... what are YOUR contributions? I know your out there (and YES I did that on purpose) ... :D

Specializes in Med/Surg, Acute Rehab.
well, :smackingf i'm guilty of the "alot" ....... my bad....oops, didn't mean to say that either!:D

my peeve is advise vs. advice. one is a verb, one is a noun.

i am for a government that is rigorously frugal and simple. were we directed from washington when to sow, when to reap, we should soon want bread."

"the democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."

"i predict future haapiness for americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them."

thomas jefferson

hey jbudd, do you think thomas jefferson spelled happiness the way you have the quote posted??

i know. i'm really bad about this, look at my earlier post on this thread.

It's not one of the worst, but alot vs. a lot.

I really love this website: Hyperbole and a Half: The Alot is Better Than You at Everything

It's one person's coping mechanism for typing and grammatical errors on the internet.

So glad you mentioned this---I have been following Allie for a long time!

She is Hilarious!

I have posted before and suggested that the nurses get on the band wagon and check this out.

She really fits out "unusual" senses of humour.

so, everyone, LISTEN UP-check out Hyperbole and a Half

What about when someone says "theirself or theirselves", instead of herself or himself. I'm from NYC originally, but have lived in TX for 30 years. I could write a book!!!! (not to say that NYer's have perfect grammar, by any means.)

Fugitaboutit......:lol2:(a fellow former New Yorker)

I am a proud Card carrying member of the GPD!

I agree with all previous pet peeves.

I have to add-"Me and him were talking the other day".....or "Me and my sister went to the movies"...ack!

Also, this one makes my teeth hurt "He should have went home yesterday but dint"...that was painful to type....

I worked in a well known speciality hospital in Indianapolis and I heard those phrases on a daily basis.

I have permanent bruises on my forehead from banging it against the wall and I could only take it for 18 months.

I will also not even attempt to read the posts that have no paragraph breaks (brakes:lol2:)and the ones that are in text speak should be deleted!

That is unfortunate, I am sure there is some good information in some of them but I just can't bring myself to read them.

Love to see this thread I started to have blossomed so ... :D

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but it's like someone scratching a blackboard with fingernails when I hear people say they "conversated" with someone or that they were "orientated" on something. What is wrong with people?

Also, (and I know I am now encroaching on verbal faults) what about the people that say they "liked" it, and they pronounce it as "liketid" ... don't get me started, please ...

I have heard this a few times and have no idea where people learned to say this:

"On today I did that documentation"

"I saw the patient on yesterday"

On yesterday? Really?

The other one that gets me is affect/effect.

That one gets on my nerves, too, but not as much as "She went for a walk with John and I." ;)

Another one (not exactly a grammatical error, but annoying anyway) is the notion that it's more refined to use the word "gentleman" instead of "man." Example: "I was robbed and beaten up by a white gentleman wearing a black sweatshirt and jeans."

Must be those back East (I'd say New England accent, but he was Virginian) accents.

I'm not a grammar nazi per se, but I do ask that whatever is written at the very least be legible. I can't tell you how much it irks me to see multiple mispellings, multiple words missing, and so little punctuation that the entire paragraph looks to be one sentence!

^^ Ditto!

I HATE when people talk like this...'ii luv mii boifrind' or ii w3nt 2 da st0 diS$ boii luks gOodd'...I most-likely won't read it ( Texting & FB poster's usually).Clearly, no wonder the illiteracy rate is at an all time high!!

Whodat,

If you haven't already done so, check out Allie's take on the "newer pain scale"

Me like that alot!

I can't believe no one has mentioned commas! I still remember it was number 12 in the Harbrace grammar book. :)

Ever give "Anvil" for pain. I bet that would sting!
