Are there any travel nurse jobs for Unvaccinated Nurses?

Nurses COVID

I have two years of ICU experience, and the past 18 months of that have been in a COVID-ICU. I had a severe allergic reaction to my first dose of moderna (major swelling of my face and tongue with extreme difficulty breathing. I rode via ambulance to the ER while breathing through an NPA). None of my doctors recommend me getting the second dose/booster. As much as I would like to be fully vaccinated, after being hospitalized and almost getting intubated from the first dose, it’s simply not worth the risk for me. I am healthy, young, and already had Covid before my first dose. Despite all of this, my hospital denied my medical exemption and fired me two weeks ago. This whole situation stinks, but I’m moving forward so....

I would like to start travel nursing, but I’m not sure if there are positions available for unvaccinated nurses. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

My apologies. You are correct, I misread your post that I quoted.

No apologies needed, it's a fair point that I should have included.

The CDC recommends a different type of vaccine be given for the second dose if a patient had anaphylaxis with the first but doesn't consider subsequent vaccine doses to be contraindicated.

Current evidence though suggests there's no reason not to get the same vaccine for the second dose in those who had a reaction to the first dose.

Are you thinking evidence has any role in this particular thread?

Although, that is interesting.  What do you suppose is the incidence of actual severe reactions to this vaccine?

Since the immune system is completely unrelated to an individual's political ideology, information sources, or understanding of basics like mask efficacy, one would expect reactions to be spread across the spectrum.  I am going to guess this is not the case.

LOL man this post pretty much says it all.  There is no need to patronize nurses who are concerned about having reactions after already having an anaphylactic reaction after the first dose. Of course data matters and no conservatives are not having higher rates of anaphylaxis, and yes you would expect reactions to be spread across the spectrum. See this should not have anything to do with politics. For someone who whines about politics influencing peoples decisions you sure seem to bring up politics a whole lot. Let stick to the data and make decisions based on that. If the data says it's safe to take a second dose after having an anaphylactic reaction to the first dose, than it's safe to do so no matter how counter intuitive that might appear to be. Now the question is that what the data actually says? We have to read the article to find out.

I had a severe allergic reaction to pfizer, but got the J&J vaccine to be fully vaccinated. Apparently I was allergic to polyethylene glycol found in moderna and Pfizer. Not sure if this applies to you or would be helpful, but I’m glad I got the Johnson and Johnson shot.

It might be a long shot in the dark. Everywhere that I've seen is asking for vaccination for flu and Covid. I would look at different agencies and speak to the recruiters. The options will be limited and in turn so would the pay. Have you thought about getting Pitzer and telling them you had an allergic reaction to the moderna. Maybe take some Benadryl before hand.

Now that vaccines for Medicare/Medicaid facilities are mandatory.. I am curious as to how travel RN's in particular are going to fare.  There are fewer hospitals without reimbursement from CMS. I wonder if this is going to drop the travel nurse ratios that are keeping my facility afloat.

The CDC recommends utilizing johnson and johnson after having a reaction to pfizer/moderna. Johnson and Johnson uses a different model of the vaccine. Pfizer/moderna are lipid nanoparticles/mrna vaccines while the johnson/johnson are adenovirus/dna vaccines. However they also recommend a risk assessment be done, and possibly a referral to an allergist/immunologist.

The answer to your question is to call travel nurse companies and ask them. You will get better information directly from the source than from strangers on an anonymous nursing forum. Most facilities have adopted being vaccinated as a condition of employment and religious and many medical exemptions are not holding up to supreme court challenges.  The only safe place to practice would be tele-medicine. As you would have no direct patient contact.

The cost of contracts is going to go up for hospitals utilizing CMS reimbursement if there is a smaller pool of nurses.

First you falsely accuse (aka bearing false witness, aka lying) hherrn of whining, THEN say we should stick to the data?

   do you hear yourself?
