Nurses COVID

I have two years of ICU experience, and the past 18 months of that have been in a COVID-ICU. I had a severe allergic reaction to my first dose of moderna (major swelling of my face and tongue with extreme difficulty breathing. I rode via ambulance to the ER while breathing through an NPA). None of my doctors recommend me getting the second dose/booster. As much as I would like to be fully vaccinated, after being hospitalized and almost getting intubated from the first dose, it’s simply not worth the risk for me. I am healthy, young, and already had Covid before my first dose. Despite all of this, my hospital denied my medical exemption and fired me two weeks ago. This whole situation stinks, but I’m moving forward so....

I would like to start travel nursing, but I’m not sure if there are positions available for unvaccinated nurses. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Yes it’s possible. I am in a very similar situation had adverse reaction after first vaccine multiple doctors told me not to get second. I live in New York State where medical exemptions are not accepted at all even though they say they are apparently. Talk to travel agencies. I applied to multiple hospitals in New York without any luck. However I got a Pennsylvania license and multiple hospitals are taking medical exemptions in PA. I would assume Florida and Texas might be similar but you have to look around and an agency would know best. You won’t have as Many options but if you’re willing to wait and look for a while I think eventually you could find a place that would take a medical exemption.

I have seen travel positions that have accepted medical and/or religious exemptions. It varies with each company though and which facilities those travel companies are contracted with. The best thing to do is reach out to a travel company directly. They will be the experts in that area and will be able to guide you best. Good luck! ?
