Are Students Protesting HESI??

Published

Hello, everyone. I was told by a classmate that she head that there is a website that was started by a nursing instructor. I guess the website is looking for those nursing students who completed their nursing program and were never told from the beginning about the HESI exam.

Rumors has it that this website has these students setting up a protest date, time, and place.

I really would like for anyone to let me know if they know the website or where and when they will be rallying. I would like to join in the protest.

Its about time that schools stop abusing these students because of HESI. Its about helping the students. HESI is only a probability exam.

Please let me know if anyone finds anything

HESI has become a THORN in my side. I made a 639 the first time and an 837 the second time. Even though thats a huge improvement it just wasn't enough. My school requires an 880 with 3 chances. I pray the third time is the charm. I did Saunders like Suzanne suggested also kaplan questions. I was doing 100 questions a day most days. Now Im going to do 300 questions a day. Im not giving up hope.

Even though I didnt pass I recommend the HESI review questions. I dont know what it is but their questions are just different. Most importantly try to control your anxiety level. I know easier said than done, right.

I wish you nothing but the best!!!!

Yeah they are different. I just purchased the hesi practest from evolve website. Anything else you can think of please let me know.

Thanks.

Good morning everyone. I hope all is doing well. Let me know how that evolve hesi practice is. If its good I would to purchase it for some classmates.

Thanks.

Well I took my HESI of the 2nd time and failed again!! I got an 761 only up 31 points from the 1st time. I did NCLEX 3500, Saunders, HESI disk, hesi practest on evolve the new and old version and still only went up 31 points. The killing part is in the review after the test the Dean of the nursing school could not even answer the questions right!! WTFlip!! Now I have one chance left to get an 880 or I will have to start from scratch...

Hi Everyone,

So yesterday was the first day of my last 11 week quarter of nursing school. We were presented with a paper that stated that we must pass the Hesi exit exam with a 900 or better or we do not graduate and will not be allowed to take the NCLEX. We took a "practice" exit exam at the end of last quarter, and it was cumlative. It had everything from OB to psych, to med surg. only 2 students passed. We were told that it is the same exit exam we will have to take in order to graduate. I did not do well at all.

Really, I dont understand. I have been a A-B student throughout my entire school career, and my GPA is 3.3, but I cant seem to pass the darn HESI. I can do the Saunders questions and do well.

I go to a private school and the tuition is very high. To think that I have spent tens of thousands of dollars only to not graduate because of an exit exam is scary beyond comprehension.

The class ahead of me who graduated last May only had 2 students who passed the HESI. The rest still havent passed it with a 900 and havent taken thier boards. They were allowed to graduate though. But I guess that does no good if you cant take the boards. At the end of last semester we were told there would be changes made to the HESI requirements, but nothing was changed.

This was not part of the program when I started and had been implemented when I was over half way through. Anyway, not sure why I am even writing this, I guess just to vent some frustration.

I have finished the first tip from Suzanne, as she says it will also help with the HESI, and I have bought the latest HESI book. I spent literally every day of the last 2 week break studying.

What does your school do, if anything to prepare you for an exit exam or the NCLEX? My school has developed a self study thing where we have to do Saunders questions and turn them in on a weekly basis. Seems kinda strange to do Saunders questions to study for the HESI, and not use the HESI study materials. I have noticed discrepencies betweeen the HESI book and Saunders, which is really weird, because they are made by the same company. That makes it even more tense, because I am afraid of memorizing the wrong info for the wrong exam.

Anyway, thanks for listening, just needed to vent to others who are or who went through the same thing.:crying2:

I'm sorry to hear that. For one the school shouldn't be allowed to add HESI to the curriculum mid program. due to the fact that that may have stopped some people from applying. I'm no educational law expert but I think they aren't allowed to do this in this way. You may want to speak with a lawyer or someone who can help you with this. We are going through the same this at my school we have all graduated but we can't sit for Boards if we don't pass HESI and some have already exhausted their 3 tries and I have one more try. So it is important that we fight for our rights to get what we worked hard for a degree in nursing.

I am in mourning. One of my classmates after a second attempt, finally succeeded in killing herself.

In her note, she said that she could no longer deal with the humilation, loss, and lies that the school had put her and her children through. She no longer had any money to repeat second year and have her grades audited as if she never earned them to begin with. Which were the only choice the school gave them.

Its been so painful dealing with how our school used their students as escapegoats for their own curriculum's deficiencies. I feel if the students had any deficiencies that it would of been nipped in the bud to begin with. The school was wrong to wait until you completed the entire program, to have taken all of your money, to a use a diagnostic test to withold your degree, and holding only the students accountable and not the faculty.

I am in so much pain on the loss of my beloved classmate. She would of made an excellent nurse. She stated in her note, that she wishes that faculty would of stood up for what is right. Faculty had told us many times that they do not believe in the exam. But, they also told us they were afraid to speak up against the vice chancellor in fear that they would lose their jobs. We had no advocacy. A few classmates have obtained an attorney regarding the matter. Others just gave up. I don't know what to do. Who do I write to? Who can help make this change? How can our story be known? I feel helpless and hopeless.

This maybe the last time I write here. I am in too much pain and confused about this whole HESI vs. NCLEX conspiracy. I lost my friend because of it.

I will never see her, again.

I don't understand...

OMG! My heart hurts to hear this. My condolences go out to you and your friends family. Something really needs to be done about this Hesi crap, so many people are not able to live out their dream due to this test. This is unbelievable how the schools are doing this to us. I am in this same boat of at the end and may not be able to reach my dream due to this HESI test. Some of my classmates have exhausted their 3 tries and all the school can say is apply for the LVN program. I didn't go to school for this long or spend the amount of money that I did to be an LVN, I'm sorry but that is unacceptable. We need to stand up for ourselves against these schools and fight this test so it can be used as it was made for as an assessment tool. There is no way that we can get through 2 o 4 yr programs and then have this test to say we are not competent enough to sit for boards. So I am asking everyone who reads this please help yourself and others by standing up for what is right, whether you passed the Hesi or not do what is right, and help get this test back down to what it needs to be an assessment test. I am going through the same thing at my school and it's tough the teachers are all to scared to help the students whether they think Hesi is good or not. So please teachers and nurses if you read this please stand up for your students, family and friends. We are in the process of going through the school, and up the chain of command and we will not stop until we get some action on this that is beneficial for all. I know some may say stop whining or those who don't pass this test don't deserve to be a nurse, but put yourself in the other persons shoes for a moment and think what if it was me, my child, my friend;would you stand up and fight this then. I pray for all you out there who has to take the Hesi or has taken it and had yet to pass like myself. I am pleading with everyone here who cares take action do not be afraid or backdown. I hope no one else has to lose their life due to something like this, especially when something can be done.

P.S. Hey 2btmanrn, I have been trying to PM you and it says you box is full, PM me when you get a chance. Thx

Please accept my sincerest condolences on the loss of your friend and classmate.

But please do not cause yourself more grief and anguish by blaming one lousy pen-and-paper test on the death of a person, 2btmnrn. Loss of a friend is always difficult to deal with, but the fact that it was a suicide makes it more so. It's so very tragic that this person could not accept her failure and move on, as so many others have who failed nursing school. It's so very tragic that she put that test above the needs of her children and the support of her family and friends and classmates.

The fact that many, many others have failed nursing school and gone on to other jobs more suited to them or have returned to nursing school later and passed, tells me that this person had to have many more issues than just failing the HESI.

She had options. She could've gone to counseling. She could've decided to change her major to a related field and worked toward that instead. She could've used her failure as a springboard for success in a different career.

I realize that my answer, coming at this time, may sound terribly harsh. I apologize for that, truly I do. But to blame a mere test on a person's death -- in my opinion -- trivializes that person's life.

Your grief, pain, and confusion are palpable, 2btmanrn. I'm sending you ((((hugs))))) but I sincerely hope that you will consider seeing a grief counselor about your loss.
