Are these sneakers acceptable for nursing school?

Published

I just bought Nike sneakers for nursing school and I am not sure if they are acceptable or not ... Nike Women's Dart 9 Running

My worries are that they are not completely white, which I hope is still acceptable.

These are the requirements for shoes that my nursing department said:

Plain, all white leather shoes/sneakers

  • No open toes or heels
  • These can be nursing shoes or walking shoes manufactured by sports companies
  • No clogs or open back shoes are allowed.
  • No canvas or nylon shoes are permitted (essentially any shoe material that body fluids can soak through are not allowed).

Thanks in advance for answering my questions!

Mesh=GROSS!!!! You'll never be able to get the chunks out. Not yelling at you but in general it mystifies me why when students have clear instructions as to the type of gear they're supposed to get they go out and buy something that totally violates said instructions. Personally, unless you have some sort of condition that makes these the ONLY shoes you can wear, I'd take them back and buy something that fits within the guidelines. That way there isn't any question and you don't start your program looking like you are trying to break the rules before you even start! On a nicer note. Good luck in school and in your future endeavors.

PS. Those Timberlands were super cute!

Eh, don't think so. Too much purple stripe. I have nursemates which have a small blue heart on them. My school found those acceptable. I know my school would not find the shoes you mentioned acceptable. Better to ask and be sure than sorry.

Don't get mess or anything. They will get dirty and yucky so quickly!! Stick with leather. I would recommend danskos but they are clogs.

I bought these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000AREHEI/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00

I like that hey are slip on--no laces to get nasty. Not too pricey and very comfortable.

Several New Balance models come in all- (or almost all-) white, no mesh, and wide widths for those who need them. In my experience, they're comfortable and rugged. I've had a pair of NB walking shoes that have lasted a long time and still look good.

They would not be allowed at the school I'm attending, and by the sounds of it (RE: No canvas or nylon shoes are permitted (essentially any shoe material that body fluids can soak through are not allowed). They aren't allowed at yours either.....

We are allowed to wear white OR black, and I chose black because our scrub pants are black....

They come in white as well, and are solid leather....

My school has similar rules to yours.

The mesh would be the hardest to justify.

I have the Timberland Pros in white. They are very comfortable. They aren't clogs. Clogs don't usually have backs.

I would worry more about the material, the directions provivded stated they wanted leather not mesh or canvice and they look like mesh.

Yes, no mesh. I bought these because we couldn't have clogs and had to have all leather. They are not clogs.

The Dansko Professional from the Stapled Clog collection.

I got a pair of all white Nike Air Max from footlocker. The sneaker is all leather. If you can convert your shoe size into boys and then look under big kid sizes, it will be cheaper than women size shoes.

Yeah, i do agree with you that body fluids or any liquids would soak through. However in my opinion i feel that it is very hard to find sneakers that body fluids won't soak into it.

Do you think i will get away with it? Also, it says nursing sneakers are acceptable, but not clogs. If you can show me some nursing shoes that are not clogs, that would be great!

I hope i can use these sneakers.

Thank you for your answer! Hope i can get more people's insight too!

I get the impression that you know that these shoes aren't acceptable. I'd advise you to not attempt to get away with anything. The only way to succeed in nursing school is to follow the rules......regardless of how trivial the rules may seem.
