Are we all old???

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi Everybody.

I'm new to this board, but it seems that there are a lot of older/returning students here.

Just out of curiousity, how old are you and where are you in life???

I'm 33 and a SAHM to two children: dd(3), and ds(1). I'm hoping to get into UF's accelerated BSN program next summer and somehow find time to balance it all....to be honest, it's a little intimidating to think about.

Good luck to us all!!!

I'm a single 26 year old female with no children, and have been living alone for the past 4 years. This is my second career. I was previously a factory worker for a major company and made a decent middle-income living, but decided to change to a field that had more job stability.

Hi ladies .

Im 21 years old (22 this year) I have a baby that is so adorable. I was engaged. but i broke that off! and dec. 2007 i'll offically be single (And nervous!) I have not been single in over 4 years! Yikes!

I see my last post to this thread was in October. I have since turned 51, completed my second semester of an ADN program, and am about to complete a summer student nurse internship in a local ER.

You are NOT older than dirt, and not older than the oldest student in MY class!! And I think in the class that just graduated there were a couple who were MUCH closer to 60 than we are.

You go!! You won't even get so much as a sideways glance because of your age in this profession. It's wonderful!!:icon_hug:

Thank you Pixie.

After catching up with posts here, I'm thinking that it's an odditiy if you make it to nursing school in your early 20's.

Also, for those of us working in school for second-career goals, the age deal makes alot of sense. Whoever heard of a second one at 22 anyway? LOL

Well I'm currently a SHM doing college full time. I'm 44, with a wonderful DH, 2 teenagers 17 and 14 and I decided that having one degree in a field that I love wasn't enough for me, so here I am going to college again embarking on hopefully my second career that I love just as much!

I'm 35 and am about to start on my pre-reqs after having been out of college for 8 years and never having taken any science courses since Biology I in the tenth grade. WoW!

Hi Texican,

Welcome to allnurses! :welcome: Good luck in your pre reqs and all!

I am 38 y/o and mother to 4 kids ranging in age from 8 to 13. I will start nursing school in August. I have never been to college before this so it is all new for me! After I get finished with the ADN program, I plan to go on and get a Master's and become a nurse practitioner. Good luck to all~

I'm 34 with one son (2.5). I just got accepted and will start an ADN program in the fall. I'm more worried about finding childcare that will suit those wacky hours than I am about the program itself :D

I am 25 and a SAHM. I have 2 kids 5 and 16 months. I am so excited about getting back into school. My husband is going into truckdriving next month and I am going to go bald when that happens. How I am going to do it alone is beyond me.

I am 37, and just about finished with my pre reqs. I plan on applying to a nursing program in Fall. I am divorced, and have three boys the youngest of which just turned 12. It has been hard at times. The biggest problem is making time for myself to study. The kids seem to think if I am here then I am 100% here, and I have had to make it clear that when its study time unless there is a fire I am studying. On the upside it has been good for them to see me in school. They are all college bound, and I think I have been a good example for them. I take my youngest to the college some times, and we feed the ducks, look at the labs, and he knows he way around. He loves it there, and can't wait to get in those science labs. When my oldest is ready to head off I can help him navigate registration, financial aid, and I think it will make the process easier.

I am 23 yrs of age and have just obtained my Associates degree. Although I DO feel that I am behind [most I know have graduated with their Bachelors] I am still thankful to be able/wanting to obtain my BSN and Masters as well. I need to hurry up and decide what school I want to attend TWU, UTA, Baylor, UT Tyler are my choices. *sigh* I plan to finish my pre reqs and then apply to Nursing school in Spring 08.

I'm 37 and was going to start LPN school this fall - then I found out I was pregnant (NOT planned at all!) So mother nature must think I"m at least not too old to have a baby, haha. I'm going to postpone LPN school for one year now since my husband will be deployed and I don't think I can do full-time LPN school with a newborn and a 7-year old. What I will do in the meantime is take individual classes that I need for my RN/BSN later on. Knowing that I made it into an LPN program makes me feel good, though. I was never the oldest in any of my pre-req classes, and many of my younger fellow-students thought I was their age (mid-twenties). That was a nice little ego boost.

I got pregnant at 37 with my youngest. He keeps me young, he is 9 and full of energy. Good luck you can always pick up school later.
