It's been established many years ago that I rely on "likes" as validation of my worth as a valued member of the Allnurses.com community. As such, whenever I get a "like" notification, I go to my dashboard to see who liked what post (yeah, I told you that I have self-esteem issues).
A curious thing I've noticed is that some members will just go through and "like" every post that's on a thread they're reading. I wonder why. Are they just so enthusiastic about the subject matter that they're just all "Hell YEAH!!" to every post?
Alternatively, I will sometimes notice that a particular member will have "liked" several of my posts in several different threads on different boards within a short period of time, and I'll think, "Is Davey Do (or you know, whoever) stalking me?"
So what are you patterns and criteria for "liking" someone else's posts?
I am fairly discerning. I only "like" posts if it shows common sense and/or humor. I only notice if my posts get any likes when they are controversial threads. I find it interesting at that point to see WHO likes it. The amount of likes I do not care about at all.
I'm really flattered when I get "Likes" from posters I respect. But then, I also get excited when I get hateful posts from those whom I disrespect. Knowing who you piss off is just as important as knowing who agrees with you.
I'm willy nilly when it comes to "likes". Sometimes I've been glad I didn't give a "like", as the poster later dove off the deepend in a thread. But then I think I'm putting way too much thought into hitting the "like" button.
I do consistently "like" almost everything that JKL33 posts (that I see -- I swear I'm not stalking her!). Not a crush exactly, because I like boys... but she always says very smart like-worthy things.

Now, if I were to go and "like" this, that could be taken as pretty darn smug. Reason #1542 to be discerning. Sorry WestCoastSun, I just couldn't "like" you this time. But usually I do. Thanks for the compliment [humbly].
It's funny you mention it Klone because you are one of my favorite posters! I am usually one of your fan club likers!! A couple other honorable mentions...Farawyn, Ruby Vee, Davey Do and Been there, Done that. There are many more I stop and read pretty regularly but I can't rattle all their names off the top of my head. Go ahead, call me a Klone groupie

Aw, thank you!

Many years ago, in the infancy of the internet when we read newsgroups on usenet, someone took exception to a post I'd made defending a soap opera character who was quite unpopular. They emailed me and threatened to show up at my house with their two attack dogs and have them rip out my throat. I was frightened off the usenet for months because they also sent me a Google Earth image of my neighborhood with my house circled in red. THAT was creepy stalking!
