It's been established many years ago that I rely on "likes" as validation of my worth as a valued member of the Allnurses.com community. As such, whenever I get a "like" notification, I go to my dashboard to see who liked what post (yeah, I told you that I have self-esteem issues).
A curious thing I've noticed is that some members will just go through and "like" every post that's on a thread they're reading. I wonder why. Are they just so enthusiastic about the subject matter that they're just all "Hell YEAH!!" to every post?
Alternatively, I will sometimes notice that a particular member will have "liked" several of my posts in several different threads on different boards within a short period of time, and I'll think, "Is Davey Do (or you know, whoever) stalking me?"
So what are you patterns and criteria for "liking" someone else's posts?
For me, I think I am discerning, basically if I see a thread that interests me I open it and read (a few of these are better than soap operas), and if I agree with someones post or comment I like it (I guess as a sign of respect), my threadline doesnt give specific forums, just the topics, I usually don't know if I'm reading, school nursing, general nursing, etc until I open the post.
I don't stalk anyone, I find some posters tend to be eloquent and articulate in their responses and write better than I do so I tend to like those posts more.
Hmm, so I'm a new member and haven't really liked many posts nor do I have many likes. So I guess I'll just figure out as time goes on how I decide whether or not to "like" a post. Right now I tend to like posts that I agree with or where the person took the time and wrote a post that is intelligent and well thought out. At this point, who actually wrote the post is not a factor. Also, although I'm not obsessed with "likes" I do appreciate the acknowledgment and do not care which poster(s) liked it.
One thing I've noticed on my dashboard is a section called Cheers. What is that about? How do you give someone a cheer and is that more substantial than your typical "like?"

To my understanding, Cheers are bestowed upon a member by an administrator for helping another member out or some other notable action.
Glad to have you as a cohort, RockinNurse!

I got a "cheer" once, two years ago. I'll cherish it always. I wish they were given out more, or that people other than AN staff could give them.
Or just give me the option to "love" a comment instead of just liking it.

Ok, thanks for the explanation! :)
