Are you discerning with your "likes"?

Published

It's been established many years ago that I rely on "likes" as validation of my worth as a valued member of the Allnurses.com community. As such, whenever I get a "like" notification, I go to my dashboard to see who liked what post (yeah, I told you that I have self-esteem issues).

A curious thing I've noticed is that some members will just go through and "like" every post that's on a thread they're reading. I wonder why. Are they just so enthusiastic about the subject matter that they're just all "Hell YEAH!!" to every post?

Alternatively, I will sometimes notice that a particular member will have "liked" several of my posts in several different threads on different boards within a short period of time, and I'll think, "Is Davey Do (or you know, whoever) stalking me?"

So what are you patterns and criteria for "liking" someone else's posts?

On occasion, I have reflexively "liked" a comment, then noticed that nobody else that I recognize has liked it, and then stopped to consider if I really liked the post or if I had just gotten excited and liked something that really wasn't like-worthy.

How about a nice bowl of Davey Do's Instant Like, Julius Seizure?

Instant Like is a love pat for your psyche!

Julius Seizure, I'm sitting here just really empathizing with your struggle to decide whether a post is like-worthy.

That struggle, in deciding if something or someone is worthy of an expenditure of finite resources, reminded me of a TV show:

Here's a criteria for getting a Like from me: If your post inspires a cartoon or meme, I'll give it a like. I may vehemently dislike your post, but if it inspires some art, you get something for it- a like.

It's a method of keeping the pump primed. This website is a virtual mother lode of fodder for fun and I want to keep that energy going.

I also give back to those who inspire art due to a story about John Steinbeck. Back in the 30's, while writing The Grapes of Wrath, he would pay anyone $2 for a good story. Now, $2 during the depression was quite a bit of coin. As the story goes, one individual told of a situation where a woman breast-fed a starving man. Mr. Steinbeck used that story as the ending to his masterpiece.

What exactly are "forum crushes"?

Are they anything like EquinoxSolstice's crushes on male nurses?

I missed that one somehow. This is exactly why AN needs to have a "best of" area. We could see all the ridiculously awesome and awesomely ridiculous threads in one place.

Obviously everyone just "likes" their forum crushes.

If I like what is said then I "like" the post. Sometimes a lot of good stuff is put out there. But do I drone-like hit every single "like"? Heck no, I'm way too lazy for that!

MMJ scares me a bit. I will always like her.
