Per the request of janina08 I've started the April NCLEX takers support group. When do you take it? What are you using to study? Would anyone like to review any of the systems/meds that he/she feels weakest on? Let's keep each other in our prayers and good thoughts as we go through one of the biggest experiences of our lives. :)
FYI:
Internal Radium Implant: (immunocompromised)
bed rest
no pregnant mom or children under 16 allowed in the room
RN stays only 30 minutes in 8 hour shift
log roll and no turning on side etc.
10-15 degree head of the bed elevate
Private room, (the one at the end of the hall)
If pt. neutropenic (WBC'S, neutrophils low level) Goal: prevent infection
No fresh fruits or flowers in the room
No standing water : Rationale: Can harbour bacteria
low bacteria diet
thorughly cooked vegies and food
Pelvic exteneration procedure, done on ogans in pelvic area/perienal area: Leaves patient with PERMANENT colostomy.
Action: Visualize organs:
MRI
Cat scan
Ultrasound

More prone to risk:
Testicular cancer: white male, 18-40 yrs RISK
PAINLESS testicular swelling
Bladder cancer: Painless hematuria (inital s/s)
Cleft palate/lip: Native american, male more prone.
Myeloma: plasma cells (Up) in bonemarrow
leukemia: WBCs (leukocytes)
* whenever body comes in contact with a foreign substance blood clots.
Herpes virus family: Found in body fluids
CMV (once in body, stays for life) - congenital
Herpes simplex virus
varicella (chickenpox causing virus)
infectious mononucleasis (epstien barr virus)

Question:
In FIBROCYSTIC disorder of breasts : WHY are we supposed to ASSESS the breast lumps BEFORE period and not after period? It said, it goes with cyclical hormonal changes. So how does that cyclical hormonal changes relate with assessing BEFORE period? Someone please explain. Thanks a lot.

Testicular cancer: white male, 18-40 yrs
Bladder cancer: white male, more than 40 yrs
Breast cancer: more than 40 years, early menarche - late menopause (they star early - finish late (to remember); family history, history of breast/uterus/ovary cancer; nulliparity and first child after 30 years; high dose radiation to chest.
(40 yrs, start early-finish late period, late baby birth, never given birth...)

I don't know how to change my user name to get rid of SN at the end...I'd rather be LaruaRN now.
