Stressing! I am applying to MDC RN prgrm for the fall of 08 with a 3.2 and will be taking my last two pre reqs over the summer and GPA will be a 3.5 once i'm done with the summer semester. Not exactly sure how they will decide on whether or not to accept me but I'M TOTALLY ANXIOUS! (have not even turned in my application yet) LoL Someone, ANYONE, pls HELP! There is all this talk about how difficult it is to get into the prgrm and NOW i'm worried i'm not going to get accepted!:uhoh3:
did anyone see in today's newspapers- the miami herald- in the 'action line' section, the last page of section B
someone wrote to them that MDC did not accept her, even though she was in her last semester of her bachelor's degree MDC would not take her for the fall because she had not completed her bachelor's yet. She has all the pre-reqs! and about to be done with her degree!
they told her that she must apply to the january 2009 class.
what's up with MDC- they reject people who are qualified and people who actually are willing to work hard to be there-
now this person who wrote to action line, will have to stay doing nothing for the summer, nor fall- and who knows if they will take her in january.
very sad. I hope she applies to other schools.
That is why it is very important to apply to many schools. The competition is fierce. Perhaps there are people who already did in fact finish her bachelors and it also depends on her GPA and what program for nursing she applied to. It's competition I suppose. I mean who knows why she was not accepted. There had to be some reason in reference to her vitae.
I just finished all of my stuff for the MDC Scholars Program!
I filled out my application, got 3 letters of recommendation (just in case), my essay is the bomb, and I filled out all the financial aid & stafford loan paper work:yeah: So noooooww tomorrow I'm gonna go to see the advisor (Coley) so that she go over everything wit me just to make sure I have everything perrrrrfect!
::sigh:: The only thing I need is the damned "official" admission letter
Thank goodness it's coming by end of this week, early next week!!
Ms. Documet said at the session that all who were invited to the scholarship session are the "creame de la creme" of the applicant pool. And so curious me asked her, "So what else we were all waiting for regarding the application process if we are the best of the best?" She smiled and said, "Your admission letters" lol. :chuckle Veerrryyyyy Funnny...
:sigh:: I want this all to be over soon...
I just wish that we knew already. I think that anybody who got the scholarship invite is fine. I do not think we will not get accepted. I mean they only invited like 200 students or so and that is how many get into the program.
What worries me beyond everything else is if I am making the right choice to go into Miami Dade College. I have heard horrible comments. They are so picky, and they pick the BEST students supposibly, yet a lot of those students are not passing the exams, and are not following through with the program.
There has to be something there not quite right... I am scared. At the same time I believe that the program is difficult with reason. I have never heard of an easy nursing program ever. I have never heard of anything without hearing a little of discomfort, yet the unknown scares me to an extent. How much of this should I really take into consideration?
That is why I look to RN who have already completed the program, and I hear their horror stories, but at the same time I hear their happiness at the end, and I see that it is ALL worth it.
Ok here we go!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because to be honest Tiff I really believe that if those admission letters are not on their way yet,,,,,they will be soon.
Happy and yet scared ALL at the same time.
:nono:I Haven't heard any bad things about MDC's nursing program besides the fact that they are really selective. They have one the best best nuringing programs in the country, and all of the nurses who graduate from there are highly respected in the field. As far as pass rates, it was at 83 percent last year I think? which isn't bad comparing the amount of students hat took the NCLEX. There are always going to bad apples in a a bunch.
I'm sure it's gonna be hard, and that I'm going to be pulling my hair out byt the middle of the first semester, but that's everywhere. I'm just trying to figure out which hospital I want to do the scholars at..
Jackson: Great research hospital, Learn alot, see everything, and be trained thoroughly in everything. BUT gritty, dirty, and poor customer service (well by my experience)
Baptist: Building a new education program, great customer service, rated as one of the top places to for many times by Fortune Magazine BUT you won't see alot, has a slower pace, critical care level capabilities lower than Jackson.
So it's either deal the dirty work at Jackson but learn alot, or choose comfortability at Baptist:bugeyes:
Tiff2003, I'm having the same dilemma. I don't know which one to choose as my first choice. Baptist is close to my house and has a favorable environment. But you can't beat Jackson in terms of the experience you'll get. Considering that I actually want to go further in my career as a nurse and obtain a Masters, Jackson might be the way to go for me. But, I'm still conflicted.
I just called to the nursing program....they are sealing the letters right now!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH I WISH I HAD THAT JOB. They are so so darn luck LOL. That is where I should have gotten a job. At the medical campus working there with all those letters! LOL.
No one get sad if they do not get their letter tomorrow. I guess the first letters will be mailed out to some lucky people on Monday, and to some other students on Tuesday!!!! So by the end of next week I think some people should have their letters. Now that I know the specific dates I feel like I am about to have a heart attack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A HEART ATTACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
O GOSH and I forgot that Monday is memorial day...so the mail is CLOSED. Great. GREAT GREAT GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BAD BAD BAD. Why did memorial day have to be when they are going to send the letters?
Why did they have to send the letters now on memorial day...This makes me so sad SAD SAD.
Ok....now to enjoy the weekend...it will be almost kind of impossible.
Anyway I just wanted to inform all of you who are waiting.....to remember that we are going into a long weekend, and they are just closing their letters now...so that means that we will not be getting the letters until the end of next week.
What I need to do is to go out, and eat something. EAT A LOT!!!!!!!!!
At these times the best thing to do is try to have fun, and forget about what you are waiting for so that you do not get so nervous.
I'm back in town. Went this morning and picked up the scholarship application. When will the wait be finally over, it states right here that we need the acceptance letter to apply for these scholarships. Why torture us! This weekend is going to be hard for me. Nursing is my dream but means a complete change in my life. Change is good, especially this!
Miami Dade will be hard but nothing in this world that is worth anything is easy.

My dad works two full time jobs as a home health nurse. I think he makes 60 per patient and sometimes they do not even take 25 minutes, but he works as a hospice nurse and he has done it for 20 years. Nothing is impossible in the world of nursing. There is so much room for growth, it is wonderful.
