Hi everyone! To get into the Versant program at Baptist you had to have been either a Scholar (MDC/Barry/Nova student who signed a contract to work for Baptist for 2 yrs and attended Nursing School on-site at Baptist hospital since semester 1) or a current employee. I graduated MDC generic through the Baptist Scholar program in Dec. 2009 and I SOO greatful that I signed up for it because Jackson has let all of their scholars out, forgiving their scholarships because they can't provide them with employment. Sucks.. Well there are ups and downs to the program.. and I beleive me, I've had my share of downs lol. But i would do it all over again if i had to go back in time. HR tells us that Jackson Scholar students have been calling their department in waves of hundreds and right now I'm really lucky that I have a job waiting for me this March!

i just got the letter from Baptist telling me that I got in their program. I wish I were more excited about it, but the roller coaster I've been on has made me numb. Francois is really really nice, Sue was one that was rude to me. I'm just so over this... I want to buy my books already and I have to wait for Baptist to give MDC the "okay" for the book advance. UUUGHHHH Hopefully I'll be happier after the orientation on Monday.... :zzzzz

Wow reading your posts it seems as though jackson scholars is alot more organized than baptist! MDC told the students whos schedules were dropped that they got in about 2 weeks ago, and baptisit JUST YESTERDAY mailed out the letters. When I called to confirm my acceptance with them, the lady was so rude to me, she seemed bothered that i was even calling her. I'm starting to think twice about my choice...

I agree with you about anatomy, people said it was going to be hard but to me it was cake as long as I did my part. it was my fav subject!! Nothing good in life comes easy, we just have to want it enough to work for it. It was already a little visible during orientation those who might not make it thru, just by their extreme lack of interest. We have been dedicated to this program since we put our apps in, and helping each other cope thru all the stress... As far as I'm concerned we WILL be a part of the graduating class.

so every1 i figured out why all of my classes were dropped.......... i got into baptist scholars!!!! i called the school of nursing and was ready to chew them out for what happened to my schedule, and they told me that i was accepted into the baptist scholars!! i asked her when baptist was planning on telling me, and she laughed and said that they were supposed to call me... i have yet to receive that call but mdc helped me out. lol:smokin:

Orientation was soooo WAK! I felt like they were talking to all of us as if we had never been to college before! Ugh, very disappointing... I'm SOOOO mad about my schedule!!!!!!! (I was able to get all of the classes I wanted at exactly 4pm yesterday because "if we regisred before 4pm, then our classes would be dropped"-------Stupid! Especially when orientation ended at 3!!!!!!!!!!) And then today when I go to print out my schedule, all of my classes have been dropped !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so furious!!!!!!!!!!! I was able to get 3 of the 5 classes I had originally registered for, and I will be calling registration early in the morning to fix the problem!!!!! This is not a good start for MDC I must say:argue:

Cool Ymarti! I thought you were JUST starting the immunizations! lol. Well I'm happy that every1 has most of their stuff done. It's been a long journey and we still have a 15mo uphill trek ahead! I hope that I get to see some of you at the orientation!!! it's gonna b a long day and having people to talk to would be a big +. I'll be the girl with a huge laptop in her face registering for classes as soon as they explain the schedules! :typing

Ymarti, are you getting the immunizations, or doing the antibody blood work for them? those take about a week for the final results so i would get them done asap. i know the final drug test takes about 3-4 days

I'm done with all of my stuff as of today . I was waiting on the results of some of my blood-work. I took care of everything ASAP, the only thing I "just" took care of was the BLS course... I took it this past saturday and was given a form to show MDC that it was completed.

I wouldn't worry too much about the TEAS. It's just an assessment to see where you are on a collegiate level, kind of like the CPT. The stuff on there is pretty basic, I think the only people who will have problems with it are people who haven't been to school in years. Even if you have a problem with it, it won't mean you get kicked out, but you might have to an SLS class or something.

So NUrsingForever, how did it go? Did Francois tell you anything about previous interviewees? She said that we'll know in about 3 weeks, that was last week... What did she tell you about when the notices will be out?

don't worry NursingForever.. Francois is really nice, and the same thing happened to me when she called me for my interview. She'll be able to help you out. Your interview will probably be on a Wednesday like mine was.

Hi guys... Well I had my interview with Baptist in Kendall, not Jackson. If your interview was anything like mine expect a 8 panel interview! They don't ask you any questions pertaining to the "nursing" career persay... it's more about how you would handle a stressful situation. They want to know what kind of person you are, and if you take the stressors of the nursing career. Every1's questions were different. Just be sure to research Jackson because they might ask you if you anything about the hospital. Don't worry too mcuh about it , and don't do practice runs in your head. The only answers that you should think about before your interview is why you want to be a nurse, and what does nursing mean to you. ABOVE ALL...Just be yourself!!!!!!! They can smell a fake! So don't mess yourself up by practicing too much and sounding too fake. I heard that jackson pays what other hospitals in the area pay. they're all quite similar. I chose baptist because they were nominated over 8 times by Fortune 500 magazine as one of the top 50 companies to work for in the country. This was important to me because I have to work there for 24 mo after graduation!!

So I did my Interview for the Baptist Scholars yesterday.... 8 PANEL INTERVIEW!! I think I did well , but maaaaannn was I intimidated when I saw all of them people! For those who've gone on their interviews, good luck! Francois said that they should be calling within a couple of weeks... Orientation is in a couple of weeks though, I hope we'll know by then because we're going to able to register then for "regular" classes.

I don;t remember saying that I HAD to live in Manhattan, to me NYC includes all of the boroughs, but thats just the way we think of NY down here in miami. Sorry if I was misleading in any way regarding my borough choice. On the contrary, I plan on moving to Queens when I do go NY. My aunt has a beautiful colonial on Forest Parkway, 3 houses down from where the author who wrote, "A tree Grows in Brooklyn" lived. It's a nice neighborhood and the rent on that street isnt too bad. A 2 bedroom is 1350/mo including everything but light and cable. My cousin lives there, and alothough the bathroom isnt the size that I'm used to, it's pretty spacious. My daughter is starting school this year, and when I go to Ny my son will be almost 3yrs. I plan on working night shifts anyway here and in NY if available so that I can be with my kids. Im also really fortunate for my husband's work schedule (it'll be the same up there as it is down here : Union thing) 7am-3pm. My plans arent all set and laid out yet, thats why I posted to thread to try and get a better idea of what I would be getting myself into living and moving to NY comparing to MIA. I dont plan on going anywhere until all of my research is done, and I know for sure that I can live comfortably in NY so I'm trying to learn as much as possible from RNs who are living it.
