Stressing! I am applying to MDC RN prgrm for the fall of 08 with a 3.2 and will be taking my last two pre reqs over the summer and GPA will be a 3.5 once i'm done with the summer semester. Not exactly sure how they will decide on whether or not to accept me but I'M TOTALLY ANXIOUS! (have not even turned in my application yet) LoL Someone, ANYONE, pls HELP! There is all this talk about how difficult it is to get into the prgrm and NOW i'm worried i'm not going to get accepted!:uhoh3:
yea, I thought the same thing about the scholarship bumblebee, but I don't know if I trust the program at the hospitals... You don't really get to choose which professors you want to take classes or clinicals with and I don't want to struggle with a bad a professor. I can't afford to flunk out of any class, so I'm going to do everything to avoid that.
And I figure that on the regular track I will be able to take clinicals at any hospital affiliated with MDC, so I'll be able to get exposure everywhere.
I'm still going to apply to the Scholars program at Baptist, because I havent heard any bad things about it yet. I would love the scholarship but is possibly worth messing up my career?
RNinthemakin- If you want it in your heart to be an RN- you will be one without MDC.
Look at me- I was rejected from there 5x's but I was accepted to NOVA and BCC
so you apply to other schools and don't give up on your dreams of being an RN.
Keep trying MDC- you don't have to keep paying the application fee.
but
RNintheMakin,
As well as applying to other schools, have you considered going the LPN route to get to the RN program? One of my classmates thinks her GPA is too low and she also applied to the Generic program for Fall 08. She says she will go the LPN route if she doesn't get in. I think she said that it is only one year, then it is a seamless transition to the RN program. I'm still hoping you get in. People that get accepted to MDC may have also applied to other schools and decide to go elsewhere instead.
RNINTHEMAKING,
Don't be discouraged, I honestly feel what you're going through right now, and I have gone through your posts and can tell that you want this as bad as all of us. I really want you to know that your GPA is good, maybe not by MDC's Nursing standards, but it's a damn good college GPA so be proud of that.
I saw the list of classes that you're taking now, and GOD BLESS YOU and your schedule!!!!!!!! That's crazy... but if you can pull that off with As, then you'll be able to do this. Just try to get between a 3.3 and 3.5 ALL CUM and then apply to alll the nursing programs that interest you, don't over stress yourself.
We all feel sick, the 3.5's 3.6's and the 3.7's !!!! We're all waiting and depending on this 1 letter as a defining moment in our lives, and feel sick to even think about getting rejected. i know i wont be able to even open mine up, Im gonna have to wait for my husband to get home so that he'll tell me my fate! lol.
Tomorrow I'm sure every1 will be waiting for that mail with their hearts in their throats. I know I will. I can't even sleep.
Im sure every1 that reads your post feels eneasy, because your grim reality could be ours...
That comment made me sad. Here we are all exited, and you seem to be having a bit of trouble because you think you did not get accepted....no one here has gotten a letter of admission. Not even those who attended the scholarship hearing.
In fact I have to let you in on the fact that not all of those who did get invited are getting in either way. I also want to tell you that there is a lot of possibility of you getting in. Have you gotten a rejection letter yet?
What Bumblebee says is so true. There are so many nursing schools out there. You should not feel in any way bad at all believe me! I think you will make a wonderful RN if you just give it a chance, and do NOT NOT NOT let one rejection letter take you away from your dreams! REMAINED FOCUSED. GPA does NOT make a good nurse. You have to remained focused.
Have you applied to other schools? Barry might be expensive, but you have a good chance of getting in, and there is also Nova, and other options. BBC I hear is also good. DO NOT GIVE UP!
Please, this world needs more good nurses.

the scholarship to me, it's a great opportunity.
you get a job right away- and 2 years go by really fast! i signed a 1 year commitment and i am on my 5th month! and it seems like yesterday i signed the paper.
i like where i work now, so i will sign for the next year.
i am gonna get my bsn soon- and i will have to sign a 2 year commitment with them after completing the course.
so it's not bad. and it looks great on a resume if you have a scholarship from a good hospital.
i know baptist and jackson are not as great as miami children's hospital- but they have a good reputation with the community and have good benefits.
i was never accepted to mdc- but if i had had the opportunity, i would of taken the scholarship.
they pay for uniform, books and classes- and give you a set job for 2 years. how can you beat that.
btw, baptist does have a beautiful looking facility and the classrooms that they have on campus are very nice. i know because my friend was accepted into that program, and i was with him running around getting things signed and such- he ended up quiting after first semester because he decided that nursing was not for him- and i was ****** because he had the opportunity that i wanted and he just flushed it down the drain as if it was nothing- and here i was wanting to be in his shoes, and people like me who had the drive to be rn did not get the opportunity.
but you know what they say- when a door closes- a window opens- so i ended up becoming an rn anyways! yay for me!
