Welcome. I am in the second semester at MDC F/T Generic. I started Fall 07. A 3.2 GPA is pretty boarder line for getting into MDC. IF you get to that 3.5, you should have a better chance.

When you apply, get ready to wait. Acceptance letters don't come out till the end of June or beginning of July. That wait felt like forever. If you don't make it in for the fall 08 class, reapply for Spring 09.

Basically they will wait as long as they can to look at your GPA. What you have in June is going to be what they rank you as. You might inch your way up the list if you have ALL of your prerequisites done, and not just the mandatory prerequisites. In other words take the microbiology and human growth and development classes if you haven't already. I know a couple of students that are trying to take those classes as corequisites...and it is tough.

Otherwise, good luck.

I will be taking A&P2 with Lab and Chem Lab this summer and I will be finished with the pre reqs. Have not taken Micro, but I figured If I don't get in for the fall of 08 then I will take Micro that semester. Guess I'm just holding on to hope that when they recieve my application, they hold on to it to see how well i do over the summer. Not sure if thats even possible, given that summer classes end aug 1. Anyways, *shrugs* I'm not gonna worry about it anymore lol so far i've got a 4.0 this semester and I plan on keeping it that way through out the summer, guess only time will tell lol THANKs for the reply--I feel alot better about it, I think... How is the program going for ya???

I am currently in the bridge option @ MDC. I applied for both the bridge and generic option and got accepted into both programs with a 3.2 GPA. I have heard some of the same talk as you have about GPAs needing to be very close to a 4.0 in order to get accepted. That is not true for all cases....especially mine. I finished all my pre-reqs and co-reqs such as human growth and development and microbiology prior to entering the program because I did not want to stress over them while in the program. I also heard that finishing all your co-reqs helps you out, but I am not sure if that is true as there are many people in my class that still have 2-3 co-reqs to take.

:twocents: I took Chemistry over the summer @ MDC-North and it was difficult. My class started out with 40 people and by the end of the semester there was only 20-25 of us sitting for the final exam. Chemistry is a very difficult course to take over the summer. Be sure to get the help you need before you start to fall behind. There are tutors available @ each campus.

Good luck:D

hehe Cross your fingers for me! I don't have a bachelors degree--just have 60 credit hrs from FSU...So I can only apply to the generic full time program. And I will just be taking chem Lab since I took chem at FSU (thought it was pretty easy)... AhhhHhHh sometimes I feel like i'm going to go crazy, this is all I freakin' think about! This cannot be normal! haha Thanks!

Just think positively and submit your application before the deadline and you should be fine. You can submit your application, even if you are still taking pre-reqs, but you need to have all your pre-reqs done before entering the program. When I applied I still had 2 pre-reqs that needed to be completed. Just relax and enjoy your free time before you enter the program.:nurse:

You are very lucky you got in with that GPA. I had a 3.3 GPA with ALL the classes needed, and also I had even finished the AA in pre-nursing for FIU and I got 5 rejection letters from MDC. So I ended up going to BCC in pembroke pines. It was great, no exit exams, and the uniforms were alot better than the aqua and white that dade has.

I really do not know how MDC accepts people into their nursing program. I always wanted to be a nurse ever since I started working as a CNA at the hospital, and since the fall of 2003 I started getting my rejection letters from miami dade, and I had a 3.2 GPA at the time.

I heard people getting in with a 2.8 GPA, and at the time when I applied, they also had the NET test, then they took it out, and accepted people with GPA, so I thought "great, they will look at my 3.2 and my completion of all pre-reqs + some"

I did not have kids at the time, so I applied also to Manatee community college in bradenton, FL and at NOVA southeastern university in Davie, FL and to Broward Community College........

I completed my AA in dec. 2004, got accepted then to all colleges that I applied to except for miami-dade college.

I love nursing, I even sent miami-dade a 3 page letter teling them how much I wanted to enter their nursing program. I sent them a copy of my hospital badge where I worked. I told them how much I would appreciate being in the white uniform the students wear.... how much of help I would be to my fellow students when they do their pediatric rotations because of my experience already working in the hospital.

I saw secretaries that I worked with getting accepted to the MDC program, and me... I kept getting rejection letters.

but I persevered.

After the 5th letter, they sent it to me with a letter saying "come to our open house for our other programs"...... and that made me extremely upset. How dare they not accept me to their program?!

I had a friend who was accepted the 2nd semester that I tried to get in, after clinicals he said "nursing is not for me" and he quit soon after. and I thought to myself "nursing is for me, I know in my heart and soul this is what I want, and I don't even get a chance"

I passed by MDC on I-95 on my way to BCC and I always said to myself "once I get my license I am gonna go to MDC and show them what they missed out on"

........... it has been 4 months since I've had my license, but I don't want to waste my time with them, but part of me wants to show them that I could of been a nurse from them, that I could of been a success in their program.

But I don't want to waste time on them when they didn't want to waste time with me.

but anyways, I am an RN now, and I love my peds night job, it is close to home, I love it love it love it, no more driving an hour or more to BCC!!!!

oh yes, and I forgot to mention that during my nursing school at BCC I also had a baby!

but I did it. NOTHING was going to stop me from my dream of becoming an RN!

In my previous psot, I mist have been misleading. I was accepted to the MDC Generic program with a 3.93 GPA and an AA in prenursing.

MDC has recently bought into the ATI program quite heavily. There is a rumor that they are planning on implementing the ATI entrance exam into the acceptance process. Historically they have claimed that a students GPA is the best "predictor" of a successful nursing student. Unfortunately there are quite a few 4.0 students that don't make it through nursing school, so that philosophy is changing. BUT, as of yet the accpetance policy is strictly GPA based.

Best of luck!

Hello, everybody...

Actually, I am doing a&p II and I hope to get a 3.83 at the end of this semester. I almost 40, I am working full time and I have three kids. It has been a long journey, but when you want something, you have to persevere. Im planning to take mcb2010 and cgs1060 for this summer as my last preq. Is better to take the program slowly because too much classes will cause you a lot of frustrations. Be very positive people!!!!

I'm currently taking A&P II this semester also. I will also be taking MCB 2010 during the summer. I already submitted my application earlier this year for both the generic and accelerated program. Who are you taking A&P II with currently?
