  1. I have never heard that someone who got one of those letters didn't get in the program. So far I have seen everyone who has gotten that letter has gotten in.
  2. it usually is a sign you are in. I can tell you that because all the studrnts who get that are the top picks for the program. I got one and got accepted. I have never heard of someone getting that letter but not getting in. I know what it says on the bottom....but I just think that's done for a just in case purpose. Either way its a relief to know that you are some of the top picks. That's how it has been done in the past.
  3. I hope you all make it. Times are very tough with the cut off GPA of 3.8. Its mainly due to how tough things are. When I got into the program more then a year ago, the cutoff GPA was only a 3.5. Big difference from a 3.8. It is very stressful to get into the program, and then the additional stress of finishing. If I can help anyone with anything to make the process easier, please let me know. I think GPA does not determine at all if you can make it through nursing school or not, but I suppose at some point that will change. I also think that it would be nice if they accepted students based on their merits and not just GPA based like they do it. Best of luck to everyone and please keep us informed as to what the cut off gpa is.
  4. Private universities are easier to get into and if you want to apply to MDC then apply to theaccelerated. That should increase your chances.
  5. I am not sure how it is working now, but when I started in the program the school gave us our skills bag with sterile gloves and everything.
  6. The seat deposit does get paid back because they include it as payment for your classes. So for the deposit I would not worry.
  7. About a year ago students with a 3.5 were accepted with no problem at all. I am so surprised with the whole budget cut and everything. I mean with the shortage of nurses now and everything this is just going to make things so much worse. I am also sad that so many students with wonderful GPAs will not be able to make it in because of the whole budget cut thing. Even if your GPA is not the best I do not think it really makes a difference anyway. Let me lnow how it goes for everyone!
  8. That first semester is a lot of stress. It only gets worse too. Its amazing how insane school can get.
  9. I think about a week or two before the will send you something. I would enjoy my time off.
  10. If you have your CPR just make sure that you do not have it expired before your program ends. Make sure that it is valid while you are taking classes! And congratulations! You know what they say...better late then never. On a lighter note you still have a whole month to finish up everything. You will be busy until you finish the program so enjoy every minute of your free time.
  11. Study and readt and do ots of practice questions from ATI and other programs. Honestly I never thought that nursing school could be so hard, but it is intense. I have never been through so much because of school. Just know that you have to celebrate and relax in between exams! Do not be on stress mode all the time. Try to take it wasy and have fun when you do pass a test. Every small thing should be celebrated and enjoyed. Any free time should used to the fullest. It is intense but it is also doable. I am going into my last semester and I am very excited to be graduating in Dec. Believe me before you know it you all will be graduating too.
  12. I also wanted to make a note that even if you make all Cs in nursing school you can still get into grad school. They have a lesser pool of applicants and for most places all you need is your RN license to get iin (for example FIU). Most nursing school students are happy with a C because again the grades do not matter, and you can still continue your education even if you have Cs. This isn't even your regular grading scale. A C is not really a C.
  13. I just wanted to make a point that nursing school is NOT about the grade you get, but about the material you learn and your patients. In nursing school grades do not mean anything, as long as you pass. The most important part is understand the material and being able to apply it as a nurse. a D is 76 and a 77 is a low low lowww C. So a C is your former B and not to mention that the exams are in critical thinking format where more then one question might be right. Therefore you can master the concepts, but you need to know how to apply it as well. So yes C means continue and students learn that what matters is the nursing skills you are learning and applying and not the grade or percentage you are receiving, that really does matter.
  14. New semester starts soon! And along with it come the new nursing students!!! This is so exciting.
  15. I can not believe that students with a 3.7 GPA are not getting in!!! Things seem to be getting really bad. Do not worry, because for us already in the program it has been a struggle. We have a Critical thinking careplan, and pharmacology exam we have to pass at the end of each clinical. This semester for advanced med surg they are using our class as guinea pigs and making us take it in only SIX WEEKS!!! Not only that part, but also the fact that our clinical instructors do not have any material or excercises for ous to practice critical thinking and careplan nor the meds. The students have had to LOOOKKKKK for all this information all over the place. Clinicals are 12 hours!!! We hardly have time to study for the exams in lecture and the worse part is that we are on our own for the exit exams we have to take for clinical. I do not plan to do critical thinking care plan all over again that is for sure, I do not want to get stuck doing 12 hour clinicals ALL over again. I am scared and freaking out about all the cutting of staff because it is really affecting the way our classes are handled and the way students get information and are able to study. Apart from ALL the stress the comes with nursing school, it is becoming even more difficult to be a student with the budget cuts. I pray that you all have a smooth ride, but with MDC PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure that you understand NOTHING will be handed to you, and YOU will have to be responsible for all the material that needs to be learned. Most likely things will not get better for a while so make sure you are on top of everything. I have a lot of material for psy and for med surg if anyone ever needs it. Study guides and stuff for future classes. Please let me know by PM if you guys would be intereasted.
