HI.......I was accepted at MDC for their Nursing Program with a 3.35 gpa the first time i applied.... I know people in my class that were rejected 5 times until they got in with 3.5 and 3.4 gpa. Every semester the lowest gpa required vary, and it's hard to guess whether a 3.5, 3.3 or 3,6 would get you in. I am now in my second semester, and looking forward to move to sem 3 with the rest of my classmates ( we lost 15 already) It is definitely not easy but possible, you just have to give your best and more.

....... Mdc has a great reputation, exellent faculty ,and their Nursing program graduates more Nurses than any other college in the US................

Good luck to those waiting for ""THE LETTER" and i hope you all have the chance to be part of this great institution.

Victoria.:heartbeat

wow victoria, you were very lucky! I had a 3.35 to be exact, and was rejected from dade 5x's. was accepted to NSU, manatee and BCC, and ended up finishing at BCC.

at BCC I felt very lucky, but was always envious of MDC program- you guys get to use calculators!!

I got in to part time generic at MDC with a 3.7 back in June 2006. When I got accepted, Letters did not go out until end of may or geginning june. with orientation in July. I unfortunately had a horrible experience at MDC and ended up withdrawing from the program and am currently getting my LPN at Mcfatter. I only went to MDC because of I needed a part time program as I work full time. I had the same teacher for two classes who was absolutely horrible. He would get to class and then have a break 15 minutes into class so he could go get coffee off campus and then would return and teach us nothing. In addition, we were two weeks late starting Fundamentals class due to Hurricane that year as school was canceled during that time. When we did finally meet for fundamentals theory we lost two teachers the first three weeks yet we were bound by syllabus for which we never got along with a twenty chapter midterm eventhough we had no teacher nor lectures . Needless to say, I do not have a favoralbe opinion of MDC. THis was my experience and I by no means want to force my opinion on you. Hopefully you will not have same experience as I did.

I think I will end up not going into MDC. I have heard a lot more bad things about MDC than any thing else. I think it would be good to perhaps go to Barry, because Nova is a bit to far. Even if I had to wait until January. and finish my A.A. I think it is the best option, because to be honest the whole thing about MDC is really making me upset, and more scared than I already am.

I hear there are a lot of other good schools other than MDC. My father graduated from there, and it seemed to be a good nursing school back in the day. Now it is so hard to get into their program, and after everything it seems that most students say it is a horrible experience either way. In that case I believe it would be so much better to just go to another school. I think I have the grades to go somewhere better. I do not want to get stuck somewhere I do not like. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY GOOD EXPERIENCES IN MDCCCCCCCCC?????????????????? I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR SOMETHING NICE. I don't think MDC is as good as I thought, and they make it so damn difficult to get in!

Everyone has different experiences at each school- perhaps once you are in MDC you will have a great one, then will be able to come and share it with others.

just because some people had hard times getting in or not getting in at all like me does not mean that you won't get in.

I wanted to go to MDC because of the short distance instead of going to broward county- (and the calculators! lol!)-

Here is a good story about MDC:

when I was taking my kaplan nclex-rn review in davie (broward county, near BCC-central campus and NOVA), I was sitting next to this young woman like me, and I asked her where did she graduate from RN school- and she said "MDC" and I said "wow, that's nice, and you live down there?" and she said "no I don't I live up here, I just didn't want to be in a waiting list at BCC + of all the horrible stories of how they treat the students there"

then she asked where I went, then I said BCC and she said "wow, that's good! then you are definitely a survivor!" ...... then we just started laughing together and just talking about the differences.

*Like, when you go to MDC and you fail a class, you can just sign up for it the following semester as long as it is only one failure. AT BCC- you have to have a meeting with the dean, write a letter stating why you think you failed and why you think you deserve to get back in, you have to take the TABE test, and an SLS class. AT MDC you have choices of what teachers to pick, and what hospitals to go to- at BCC you ain't got a choice- whatever teacher is there that teacher will have all your class- except in clinicals then you have a choice- but you don't know because they are all TBA- so by talking to others you get to know which teacher usually goes to which campus. BCC you can't use calculators during math tests, and at MDC you can- MDC uses a basic calculator much like the one you are allowed to use for a little test called NCLEX-RN. I'm sure the building at dade looks a lot better than the portables we had our classes in at BCC- there were water stains everywhere. at MDC-medical center you guys have a coffee machine! at BCC we have none of that.

But basically- you have to experience your own experiences with MDC.

Try them- it's a lot better than having to pay $40-50K for an RN degree, when you can get it for a lot less at MDC.

That is why I am so so so so thankful that I went to BCC- no loans!:nurse:

God works in mysterious ways! I was so upset- and very resentful of MDC not taking me in. But in a way, I am glad I got into BCC.

I never experienced that at BCC.

I got my "e-mail" and it's like 3:23am! Thank goodness that I jined this forum because I never would have known about the MDC email notifications (I've never used my MDC email!). Thank you all so much (esp. butterfly) for the info!!

I wasn't too crazy about MDC but i HATED my BCC experience. MDC has been good to me so far, it's just thei selectivity that throws me off, you never know what to expect.

Any program that you go to will be tough; MDC, BCC, or Nova... We just have to tough it out and think about what's important I guess. It all comes down to how bad you really want it.

I'll tell all after the info session...

congratulations!!!!!!!!!

Good luck with everything- work hard-and you will make it all the way!!!!

(were you in the nursing program at BCC before?- I did pre-reqs at MDC- and to me, they were so disorganized, every semester I had to take a copy of my taxes to get financial aid, at BCC- they never asked me for my taxes! and every semester I applied for financial aid they would give it to me!- Overall, I can't say that BCC is the perfect school- but I did have an over all good experience there I would give it a 7 out of 10 ratings! LoL)

Wow. That comment made me feel a lot better.

Tiff which notice did you get? The information session? I am going on Wednesday.

I'll be going to the Tuesday one.

everyone has different experiences everywhere.

by far the one school that I've never heard anyone complaint about is Nova southeastern university.

THey treat the students there with the upmost respect- if there is something wrong, they fix it right away.

my friend said that one time there was a mean clinical instructor- the dean heard 4 complaints about her- they fired her and hired a new one.

another person I know from there said that one time they had an afternoon lecture- and he said that he went to complaint to the dean that the room was dirty- within 15 minutes the room was cleaned.

THAT WOULD NEVER EVER HAPPEN AT BCC- when you complain about something, they don't give a ____.

THat school is definitely worth the money!!!

My friend and I were at nursing school the same time- she graduated from NOVA and I from BCC- I told her stuff that would happen at BCC and we always said "you get what you pay for".... I went to school with financial aid, she too had financial aid (which they only give 4K per year), but she also had loans too.

but now I have no loans, and she has 40K in loans.

so there is always a trade of.

but eventhough I went to school with FA, I am thankfull I don't have to pay loans. the least loans I have to pay, the better.

everything is so expensive now. groceries, gas, living expenses- I'd rather have nothing.

2 years of suffering, but I made it as an RN!! yay for me!!

so I'm sure there are even more horrible stories of things that happen to people at BCC, as well as MDC and other schools---- but remember they are just stories.

Everyone has different experiences in life, and everyone views the same things in different ways.

you just have to experience things yourself- and not let anyone elses experiences help you decide wether you will attend a particular school or not.

People told me not to go to FIU for the RN-BSN because there are a lot of things that they require--- now that I am ready for it, the requirements don't seem that bad, but I am gonna try to get into that program because it's cheap and the hospital will pay for it!

so go out there, experience what you have to experience and come back and share it with others!

It is so true. You really have to live things out yourself.
