U.S.A. Florida

Stressing! I am applying to MDC RN prgrm for the fall of 08 with a 3.2 and will be taking my last two pre reqs over the summer and GPA will be a 3.5 once i'm done with the summer semester. Not exactly sure how they will decide on whether or not to accept me but I'M TOTALLY ANXIOUS! (have not even turned in my application yet) LoL Someone, ANYONE, pls HELP! There is all this talk about how difficult it is to get into the prgrm and NOW i'm worried i'm not going to get accepted!:uhoh3::uhoh3::o

Yeah, it was for the info session. I'm going to the Tuesday one at 6pm.

I only went to bcc for 1 semester (during pre-reqs), and it was horrible! they made everything seem so hard, mdc was way better in my opinion.

i heard nova was good too for nusing, and im thinking about going there for rn to bsn after i get my license.

Does anyone know the difference in pay for an rn w/an A.S, and an RN with a BSN?

did u rsvp by phone, or email?

I rsvp'd by email and got a reply back confirming it. I also called just to be sure.

i did it by email on friday night, i guess i'll get my response tomorrow

did he have a 3.54 ALL CUM or was that his overall regular gpa?

Does anyone know who's hospital program is better: Jackson Memorial or Baptist Health?

see, everyone has different experience, to me BCC was great! and MDC was disorganized.

NOVA is great for nursing, I wish I could get in that program RN-BSN, I know I can since I am an RN already- but it is too expensive it's like $500/per credit (something like that- can't remember).

Hopefully :bowingpurI will get in to FIU,and the hospital will pay for the program & books. I plan to do it part time. whatever $4K/year costs- that is how much I want to spend for school so I can get it back with tuition reimbursement from work. I dont want any loans. I have a family.:heartbeat

The difference in pay. For me, it's 0.50 cents! that's right. only fifty cent per hour difference once I get my BSN degree.

I am getting it for me, not for the money- so I could have more options of where I could work- because with AS there are only limited things we could do with it, and honest:bow:- I don't want to be a bedside nurse forever.:nurse:

Yea I definitely want to get my BSN because I might want to go to PA school later on or be a nurse manager.

What are some of the working restrictions for A.S students?:bluecry1:??

At NOVA they have a really good PA program, that you can get your master's degree in 27 months! it's a full time program. But as you heard, nova is a great school!!

IDK anything about the PA program at MDC. But I think that they do have a program... but you end up with an AS.

As an RN with an AS we are basically bedside nurses- that's it. to be in management, education, involved in any new projects like information technology- you have to have your BSN.

We can move on up, we can get certified in a specialty- my specialty would be a CPN (certified pediatric nurse) because I work with children.

we can take classes offered by the hospital and move up a level- I am level one because I just started- but by next year I will be a level 2 which is $0.5 per hour- then after that I can get trained to be charge nurse - and I think that is a dollar per hour more- not sure- but I don't want to be charge nurse to nurses that have been there like 10 years.

Don't get me wrong- we could do & start anything with an AS aslong as we are hired to the unit.

there are OR nurses that just have their assosiate's degree-

there are PICU nurses- ER nurses- Cardiac intensive care- oncology RN's.... all with their associates degree without any experience- just our RN license...... as long as they are willing to train and you have that RN license, you can work there and learn.

but with an AS we are very limited- you definitely need a BSN to move up onto bigger and better things. That is what I want to do!

I Love online classes- I took 1 at NOVA when I was there starting the BSN program that I never finished (so embarrassed about not finishing!)

but anyways- look into the NOVA program for PA

what I want to do eventually is be an ARNP- not soon but in a few years- so I will do my BSN at FIU and hopefully my ARNP program there too.

Cool! I've been looking at Nova for some time now, and if i dont get into MDC then Im going to apply there for their BSN progrm which starts in Jan.09. I got the Scholarship invitation letter (which is total BS) for MDC, and I'm gonna go tomorrow to see what thats all about...

Hey do you know nurses wo have 2 jobs? I was thinking to work per diem at both Baptist and MCH or Joe Dimmagio.. Is it at all possible?

Most places will take you per diem, but you have to have a year of experience to work per diem.

I know my co-worker recently started working part time then works full time as a home health nurse and she makes a lot of money- I didn't want to ask- but whatever she says!

I want to do the same too after I get my year's experiences, I know one nurse who works per diem at baptist and she says it's like $41/hr!!!! which is awesome!!!

hey you never know! you just might get in and that is why they are sending you for the scholarship info! I never got that letter and I was rejected so many times!!

Don't be ashamed of not finishing. I think we all go through javing plans and then not being able to do what you originally thought to do. as long as you do what you planned you will do great.
