This may be a far fetched thread but I am planning on applying next fall (or second half of year June 2nd-Dec 31st) for the Fall 2015 start AP BSN program (also applying on campus just to cover my bases). A little jealous that other schools like TWU can apply in the semester before the they are looking to start. Either way I was thinking this thread could help those who are needing to know the process and others who have info from advisors that could share with the rest of us. So here are my questions:
A. I have not taken HESI yet but UTA's does not require sciences from what I have found online and been told by others. Any tips on preparing for this? Which prereqs would you recommend having done prior to testing?
*B. Transferring outside pre-nursing requisites Intro to Nursing, Patho and Pharm. I got info from an advisor that I must fax a "portfolio" including an official transcript, copies of catalog description of course from college, and copy of syllabi for each course. Has anyone else done this and is this done AFTER courses are completed and appear on transcript? Or before the classes are taken? I am considering Brookhaven for these. Is it possible these NOT be approved? Did anyone stack these courses Intro and Pharm same semester or Patho and pharm?
C. UTA upper division elective. Medical Terminology is what is accepted for UTA AP BSN program. How have others taken the course? Such as online, over summer, flex term?
*As you can see B is my biggest concern.
If there is anything else someone would like to add please feel free. I want this thread to help make the application process as smooth as possible for others as well.
Thank you!
Yes, I completely agree. I do not know why they would have the start date as the 18th. Especially with the weekend coming up, obviously they will be closed then too. It would have made more sense for them to state the date range as 21st-23rd. Also, do you know if we receive an email if we aren't accepted / or put on the waitlist, or is no response an indication of not getting in? I know we are all anxious, prayers to all!
Hey MSC! From my understanding, everyone who applied will receive an initial email with whether or not they are accepted, waitlisted or denied. If for whatever reason I were to receive nothing at all, I'd definitely contact my advisor. If you're a dual applicant it's possible to be accepted, denied or waitlisted for one program (online or campus based) and simultaneously be accepted, denied or waitlisted for the other. If denied, there doesn't seem to be much to do at that point. Accepted applicants must still confirm if they will take their spot or not and if applying to both programs, which spot they are taking over the other. But if waitlisted I believe there is information given as to when the "accepted" applicants must meet their deadlines regarding CBC, immunizations and any other necessary steps to actually lock in their claimed position in the program. After they've gone through all that and some do or don't take an offer or CBC issues arise, they start to contact people of the waitlist. It's a lengthy ordeal especially if waitlisted because you can be called up till a week or two before the start of the program.
Two questions as we all stalk our emails for the next 3 days:
1. IF we are accepted into the program, when do we find out what hospital we are assigned to? Or do the hospitals change depending on the particular clinical/classes?
2. The AP-BSN Online group ONLY has clinicals on the weekends, correct? Sat/Sun? Isn't that the point of doing the program online?
I've heard so much conflicting info, I just thought I would ask .....
When we get accepted, we will all log into blackboard where we will be communicating with the CON Administrator. There will be a lot of paperwork we are required to take care of by a certain date. One of the documents we will complete is the preference worksheet. We will be given the opportunity to list our preference for the clinical site and they will attempt to place us according to our preference. If I remember correctly, only 10 people can be assigned to each clinical site; I'm not sure how they do the selection. We will not know for certain which site we are assigned to until May, possibly June.
Clinical will take place on Sat/Sun; however, I've been informed that you "may" be required to go on a Thur/Fri, though very unlikely.
This is a list I received sometime ago.

Two things that you may want to start working on are your immunizations and BLS CPR certification. Immunizations specifically, are problematic for some people; thus, it's important that you start working on it now if you don't already have them. Below is a list of what's required by UTA.
MMR - 2 doses
Varicella - 2 doses
Tdap - 1 dose after 2006
Influenza - Annually (September - March)
Hep B - 3 doses
Hep A - 2 doses
TB Skin Test - 2 negative readings within 12 month period

Well that's disappointing. Why not just start the date range from Monday rather than say the 18th knowing the campus is closed and people are out for Spring Break? Well I guess we can all just suffer for another few days.
