This may be a far fetched thread but I am planning on applying next fall (or second half of year June 2nd-Dec 31st) for the Fall 2015 start AP BSN program (also applying on campus just to cover my bases). A little jealous that other schools like TWU can apply in the semester before the they are looking to start. Either way I was thinking this thread could help those who are needing to know the process and others who have info from advisors that could share with the rest of us. So here are my questions:
A. I have not taken HESI yet but UTA's does not require sciences from what I have found online and been told by others. Any tips on preparing for this? Which prereqs would you recommend having done prior to testing?
*B. Transferring outside pre-nursing requisites Intro to Nursing, Patho and Pharm. I got info from an advisor that I must fax a "portfolio" including an official transcript, copies of catalog description of course from college, and copy of syllabi for each course. Has anyone else done this and is this done AFTER courses are completed and appear on transcript? Or before the classes are taken? I am considering Brookhaven for these. Is it possible these NOT be approved? Did anyone stack these courses Intro and Pharm same semester or Patho and pharm?
C. UTA upper division elective. Medical Terminology is what is accepted for UTA AP BSN program. How have others taken the course? Such as online, over summer, flex term?
*As you can see B is my biggest concern.
If there is anything else someone would like to add please feel free. I want this thread to help make the application process as smooth as possible for others as well.
Thank you!

Hi Carol,
Are you wanting to start the program in August 2015? If so, the deadline is on Monday for the application, HESI scores, etc so I hope you have taken the HESI! I am also applying for the AP BSN program at UTA and hoping to start in August. Fingers crossed!
I took the HESI A2 in December. It was not very difficult, but hardest part was the reading section for me. I just got the HESI study guide which helped a lot! I took it at UTA where the exam is online. You are given about 4 hours and are able to do each section in the order and time you wish. After each section, you will see your score. Yes, you heard right about not being tested over sciences. The required sections are reading/general knowledge, vocabulary, grammar, math, learning style and personality style. I was able to complete it in about 2.5 hours.
As far as the 3 classes go, I am just going to take those at UTA. I took Patho at TCC before realizing that they require it to be taken at UTA, but I am not going to worry about trying to get that transferred. I figure that it will benefit me if I take it again since I took it before A&P II which was a little backwards! Sorry I am not much help with B!
I took Medical Terminology at TCC which did transfer over to UTA. Before reading your post, I did not realize that Med. Term was the UL elective so I am glad that I took that class!
A question that I have is about the math requirement. I took Pre-Calculus a while back and got a C. I am considering retaking a math class (College Algebra) to get an A just in case I do not get in the program the first time around. Does anyone know if they count the highest level class (so if someone took College Algebra and got an A, but took Pre-Calculus and received a C) or would they take the highest grade. If anyone has taken both classes please let me know which class they gave you credit for! Thanks in advance for any input!
Thank you gotpointe for your response!
I actually spoke to an AP enrollment specialist today and she gave me a little bit of insight on the enrollment process.
In regards to the UD Elective apparently she did not know that it was required to be completed prior to the start of the program, and she said this is the first she's heard of this even though I directed her to the online page that states this. I'll definitely circle back to my advisor about this one, but from what I was previously given from my advisor this is in fact a necessity. She unfortunately was not able to give me too much clarification when it came to the pre-nursing courses and the process of getting those approved. And as far as my start, it was a typo on my end. I'm actually looking to apply the second half of this year for the Fall 2016 start.
Something else that came up in these past few weeks is that I have a friend that's a nurse who is currently in the process of returning for the NP program at UTA (she is a UTA BSN On-Campus graduate). She was told by a recruiter (I believed that's who she said she spoke with) that if you have an application window, for example, from June 2nd to January 5 to apply, those applying closer to the start of the window are screened sooner (read: first come, first serve) than those applying closer to the end of the window. I don't know how much validity there is to that and it seems unfair for someone waiting to finish up a few classes in order to apply while still meeting the deadline to be looked over due to a bulk of applicants before them. Anyone have any insight on this? I am going to reach out to her about that and try to get some clarification but it's kind of a he said, she said so how accurate could that be?
Also!

I believe that your Pre-Cal class would not meet the requirement even though it is a higher level course. Unless approved according to the fine print at the top of the equivalency chart. If you feel confident in getting an A in College Algebra, I would definitely do it. In the even that the Pre-Cal was taken but you didnt get in, it would definitely help improve your GPA. Higher GPA, higher points!

Hi! I too will be applying for the Fall 2016 start. I am going to put my application in as soon as this current spring app deadline ends. I have everything done that is needed to apply. I am taking stats this summer, chem in the fall, and path and pharm in the spring. The HESI was easy cheesy! I took it about a year ago because I thought I was going to apply last fall. You can retake college algebra and they will use that grade for math, regardless of the course level. They will use the highest. As far as your upper level elective, it doesn't have to be medical terminology. It can be any 3000-4000 level course, in any subject. The grade does not count in the ranking process. I have a psych class being used for my elective. I don't know much about the course transfer process. I took intro at UTA last semester and I'm taking path and pharm in the spring.
Hi Hay219! Thanks for your response. I'll be taking Patho and Pharm in the spring and Chem in the fall too! Chem will be at a DCCCD school though. And I'm taking all my pre-nursing classes at UTA after all. Didn't want to risk it so there goes $3000 plus books. Haha!
You're UDE is cleared by someone? It's on their website and on the advising email that I got from my advisor that Medical Term and Legacy of the Fam were the only 2 that would fulfill the requirement. I'd like to take something else, but that's what I keep hearing. Maybe it is open to any 3000-4000 course and it just depends on your advisor on how strict they are. Ugh. Just another way to confuse people.
I may apply before actually taking Chem just to get my app in there sooner, but just depends how I do on AP II this summer. If I make an 'A' my sciences will be 3.67 (B in Micro ) if I apply before finishing Chem. And I will NOT be doing anything next summer. I've taken all my prereqs in just under a year and a half and I'm burnt out. I want a nice summer break before starting this crazyness! Hopefully more Fall 2016 people will find their way to this thread so we can help each other out throughout the program. Are you partnered?

I am looking into applying for Fall 2016! This coming fall I am taking CHEM, spring 2016 I will be taking my MICRO, TECH Writing and from May-Aug I will take the 3 pre nursing courses online with UTA... overwhelmed to say the least!
Sorry for the delayed response. I get email notifications but then go to all nurses on my computer and cant figure out how to get into the thread. All of my undergrad hours are from UTA and I was a prior psych major. They pulled a psych class into my nursing eval for my UDE. I didn't ask and they didn't say I needed anything different. I have taken med term and nutrition at another school but they didn't need them. Maybe they took it because I already had it. If you haven't taken a upper level course, they only allow those two from the online program. There are other UD classes you can take at UTA but you may have to go to the campus or dot their alternative online class that could have campus tests, etc. I too started back Jan 14 and am burnt out. I've done 15 classes in the last year and a half. It's a lot of work and I'd like to know I'll be able to get in. I'm in my first week of stats, and will be preparing for chem in the fall. Path and Pharm will be in the spring and then hopefully I'll get in and be able to take a break next summer before the program starts.I am not partnered. I have all sciences from UTA, 30+ undergrad hours from UTA.
Hi mycev0521! Micro and tech writing are easy. You could easily take intro to nursing with them if you want to double up. I made an A in all of those courses, pretty sure I completed micro in one week. I will be in your chem class. That class is the only reason I have not taken path and pharm yet. I need those three. I am a very weak chem student and hoping it doesn't send my GPA for a dive. If I feel there is a problem, I will get my app, drop it, in and take it the following spring so it doesn't effect my ranking. Then I would be in your path and pharm class next summer. Right now I am planning to apply by the end of fall, during chem; take path and pharm in the spring and take next summer off.

Hello Fall 2016 AP Hopefuls,
I too will be applying for that term. I am back in the AP program. I was in it for 2 years and stopped because someone told me it was next to impossible to get in if you were not partnered. I am back now and plan to finish, no matter what. Any of you that are not partnered have any feedback on what you do if you get in? Does the school assign you somewhere? I sent an email to my advisor asking that question but haven't heard back from her.
The only classes I have left are patho, pharm and intro which I plan to have completed ASAP. I have taken my pre-requisites with UTA with the exception of General Psych. I am so ready to be done with all these classes and get into the program.
I will be taking my HESI in a few weeks.
Let's keep this thread going and keep encouraging and informing each other.

Hi Guys!,
I'll be submitting my app for the January 1 deadline as well. BSN is def my goal but I'm also applying to Brookhaven and El Centro that start in Spring 2016- I just want my RN!! I feel like I have been working at this for forever LOL.
I've done AP 1&2, in chem right now, and registered for Micro this Fall. I have my history & gov classes to do and I'll have all my undergrad courses done. I work for Cook's so I am hoping that will help my application.
It's a long bumpy road.
Yes it is but we will get it done. Good luck with your classes this summer.
