Applying AP BSN in Fall '15 for Fall '16 start Info!

Published

This may be a far fetched thread but I am planning on applying next fall (or second half of year June 2nd-Dec 31st) for the Fall 2015 start AP BSN program (also applying on campus just to cover my bases). A little jealous that other schools like TWU can apply in the semester before the they are looking to start. Either way I was thinking this thread could help those who are needing to know the process and others who have info from advisors that could share with the rest of us. So here are my questions:

A. I have not taken HESI yet but UTA's does not require sciences from what I have found online and been told by others. Any tips on preparing for this? Which prereqs would you recommend having done prior to testing?

*B. Transferring outside pre-nursing requisites Intro to Nursing, Patho and Pharm. I got info from an advisor that I must fax a "portfolio" including an official transcript, copies of catalog description of course from college, and copy of syllabi for each course. Has anyone else done this and is this done AFTER courses are completed and appear on transcript? Or before the classes are taken? I am considering Brookhaven for these. Is it possible these NOT be approved? Did anyone stack these courses Intro and Pharm same semester or Patho and pharm?

C. UTA upper division elective. Medical Terminology is what is accepted for UTA AP BSN program. How have others taken the course? Such as online, over summer, flex term?

*As you can see B is my biggest concern.

If there is anything else someone would like to add please feel free. I want this thread to help make the application process as smooth as possible for others as well.

Thank you!

Does anybody know what hospitals UTA is partnered with for 2016?? I am planning on applying for Fall 2016 start as well

Hey Chelsea,

These are the 2016 Fall Partnership hospitals. This came directly from the application through MyMav. If you go in like you are applying they are listed (but then you can just back out of the application without saving anything). I'd been looking over the past month so I guess they must have recently put them up.

Baylor

Hospital Corporation of America (HCA)

Houston Brazosport/Bayshore

John Peter Smith/Cook's Children

Parkland/ Dallas Children's

Conroe Medical Center

Denison Texoma

For this application period, (I checked for last application period too) it just says Baylor, in the last application period it was specifically BUMC. I'll probably feel out how I'm doing in Chem this fall and if I feel like I'll get an A I'll wait to finish the course to add the class to get my sciences GPA a boost. Starting A&P II on Monday so hopefully it's a good semester!

Specializes in Neuro/EMU, Pediatrics, Med Surg.

Has anyone stalked this website enough to know what the lowest GPA has been the last few app periods?? :sneaky:

I've seen some GPAs be mentioned around 3.25. There may be lower ones, but not sure. Usually sciences are always a little higher than the overall, from what I can remember. I know that considerations can be a deciding factor if there are multiple people with comparable GPAs. But the program is very competitive, that's for sure. I'm close to a 3.8 and maybe closer to a 3.9 if my last few classes go as planned and I'm still worried I may be waitlisted. :sorry:

Bumping forum for any new applicants for AP BSN for Fall 2016. Anyone submitted their applications yet?

I submitted mine on 09/11. Not sure how long does it take for them to tell me if I was accepted or rejected. Anyone knows how long does it take to make a decision?

My stats are 4.0 science GPA and 3.0 overall. 2 considerations, not partnered.

MrBowser89, we are notified in mid April about acceptance, waitlist or denial to the nursing program. All the best of luck to you!!

I am applying for UTA Fall 2016 as well. I take my HESI next month to complete my application by January deadline.

I have taken my intro to nursing, but will need pharm and micro in the spring. Any suggestions on pros and cons for taking micro (full semester = slow pace) at DCCCD vs micro (short term = fast pace) at UTA?

Also, what is pharm like? Easy, hard?

Thanks in advance for advice:)

What is a consideration?

Pharmacology will be easy if you know your A&P and Patho well. mechanism of action and adverse effects are imperative to learn. I've been a pharmacy tech for many years so that was a bonus :)

A&P was fine, but I haven't taken Patho yet; my advisor said to take Pharm first. Would you agree?

I took pharm, legacy of the family and intro to nursing this semester. Will take patho, micro and sociology on the spring.
