Anyone Up For Random FACT THROWING??

Let's have some fun learning. Each person should throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember" before taking your finals, HESI, NCLEX, etc. Nursing Students NCLEX Article

Updated:

OK I know this sounds stupid but I have a friend that gets really freaked out before big tests like finals, HESI, NCLEX, and usually we get together and a few days before I start throwing out random facts at her. On 2 different tests she said the only way she got several questions was from the random facts that I threw at her that she never would have thought of!

SOOOOO..... I thought that if yall wanted to do this we could get a thread going and try to throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember". NCLEX is coming and the more I try to review content the more I realize that I have forgotten so......here are my 5 random facts for ya:

OH and BTW these came from rationales in Kaplan or Saunders no made up stuff:

1️⃣ A kid with Hepatitis A can return to school 1 week within the onset of jaundice.

2️⃣ After a patient has dialysis they may have a slight fever...this is normal due to the fact that the dialysis solution is warmed by the machine.

3️⃣ Hyperkalemia presents on an EKG as tall peaked T-waves

4️⃣ The antidote for Mag Sulfate toxicity is ---Calcium Gluconate

5️⃣ Impetigo is a CONTAGEOUS skin disorder and the person needs to wash ALL linens and dishes seperate from the family. They also need to wash their hands frequently and avoid contact.

Oh, ohh, one more...

? Vasopressin is also known as antidiuretic hormone

OK your turn....

Thanks for posting this (insulins rapid and short acting insulins...ect); i was just telling myself that i needed to look this up.

I think that this is the coolest thread on this site. Wish me luck, I take my test June 23rd. I just happen to look at this thread and told myself that god is helping me out. you guys ARE AWESOME!!!

HOW MUCH KCL TO PUT IN THE BAG:

do this like your standard problem. I ALWAYS use the same formula even if it is pills:

want (order)

------ X available form

have (available)

so...... 60 mEq

-------- x 20 ml = so you would put 30 cc's in the bag

40 mEq

HOW MANY ML PER HOUR?

then you would look at your order. You have 60 mEq added to a 1000 cc bag right? So you would divide 60 into 1000 to tell you how many mEq per cc of fluid... 60 / 1000= 0.06 mEq per cc

so then you go back to that original order. Doc want you to run 2.5 mEq per hour so...

you want 2.5

------------- x 1 cc = 41.66 or 42 ml per hour

you have 0.06

HOW MANY GTT PER MINUTE?

so I would use my regular iv formula

volume to be infused X drip factor

_____________________________

time in minutes

42 x 60

-------- = 42 ggt/ min

60

OK SOMEONE CHECK MY WORK BECAUSE I HAVE HAD A REALLY LONG WEEK AND AM TIRED. AS FAR AS I KNOW THIS IS CORRECT.

Can you help me. I am not understanding how they are getting 43 drops/min.

If you divide the 60 divided by 1030 you get... 0.058 which would still round to 0.06 and

2.5 mEg/hr divided by 0.06Meq you get 41.66 (42) drops per min.

I am confused, but it is 3am in the morning.

Please help I am horrible at calculations.

Thanks

You get 43gtt/min by not rounding in the middle of the problem. Hope you got some sleep.:zzzzz

Can I say "I love this thread." Thank you all. This is great. I'm passing this on to my classmates.

Some people from my class (who are extremely smart and tests well) said it was really hard. What was your experience like?

P= pulse (>100,

G= grimace (cough, grimace, no response)

A= activity (flexed, flaccid, limp)
