Let's have some fun learning. Each person should throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember" before taking your finals, HESI, NCLEX, etc.
Updated:
OK I know this sounds stupid but I have a friend that gets really freaked out before big tests like finals, HESI, NCLEX, and usually we get together and a few days before I start throwing out random facts at her. On 2 different tests she said the only way she got several questions was from the random facts that I threw at her that she never would have thought of!
SOOOOO..... I thought that if yall wanted to do this we could get a thread going and try to throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember". NCLEX is coming and the more I try to review content the more I realize that I have forgotten so......here are my 5 random facts for ya:
OH and BTW these came from rationales in Kaplan or Saunders no made up stuff:
1️⃣ A kid with Hepatitis A can return to school 1 week within the onset of jaundice.
2️⃣ After a patient has dialysis they may have a slight fever...this is normal due to the fact that the dialysis solution is warmed by the machine.
3️⃣ Hyperkalemia presents on an EKG as tall peaked T-waves
4️⃣ The antidote for Mag Sulfate toxicity is ---Calcium Gluconate
5️⃣ Impetigo is a CONTAGEOUS skin disorder and the person needs to wash ALL linens and dishes seperate from the family. They also need to wash their hands frequently and avoid contact.
Oh, ohh, one more...
? Vasopressin is also known as antidiuretic hormone
OK your turn....
Cholecystectomy due to cholelithiasis and colesysthitis, WATCH for BLEEDING problems, because vit K FAT soulble, is poorly absorbed in the absence of bile. by the way T-tube used for drainage-Reason for T tube to maintain patency of common bile duct.
Chronic RF the best way to asses fluid status-WEIGHT the PATIENT daily
When NGT present mouth care ICE CHIPS but be aware not give that too much-> it becames water->stomach->NGT suck it with K and other electrolites present in stomach. LOST K
Heat cramps in hot weather-Sodium (Na) loses
Following Gastrectomy NGT drainage should NOT be BLOODY after 12 hr
Thyroid storm's main sign is FEVER
ALDOSTERONE insufficiency -Hypo-Na-emia, Hyper-K-emia, hypo-Volemia. WHEN Na decrease, K increase

cushings= up up up down up
addisons= hyponatremia, hypotension, decreased blood vol, hyperkalemia, hypoglycemia
cushings= hypernatremia, hypertension, incrased blood vol, hypokalemia, hyperglycemia

The Sylivia-Rayfield NCLEX review course, would you recommend it and can you tell me about it? They don't offer any workshops in Texas at this time where I am, but if I purchase just the books, will it be sufficient, or do you suggest I take the workshop also? I am willing to fly out wherever for the workshop if it is strongly recommended.
Thanks.

Hi jadu I took sylvia rayfields course and I thought that it was wonderful! The thing they don't tell you when you sign up to take a class is that you can go to the review two more times after your first session of three days. Hey three for the price of one! They move very fast over the material, and you can sometimes get lost, but if that happens just as loretta to slow down. The course overall made me realize that the same way that you study for the NCLEX MUST be different from how you had to study for a reg nursing test. I highly reccomend this study course, it comes with a booklet "nursing made insanley easy", and a NCLEX booklet with a cd rom in the back of the book and over 1000 questions in it.
1. Shock: BP 100
2. Fluid of choice in pt in shock are isotonic: NS, LR
3. PVCs: Always treat: >6 UNIFOCAL and/or >3 MULTIFOCAL with LIDOCDAINE 75mg 4:1 drip
4. SIADH
Na
Hx of lung cancer
Specific gravity > 1.035
Diabetes Insipidus
Na> 160
head injury
Specific gravity
5. Pt with radium implants you can only stand at the head of their bed. When performing bath remember: 'pits and crotch' ONLY :)
Thanks for all the great NCLEX facts :)
1. Verapamil (calan) - treatment of supraventricular tachycardias, check heart rate
2. clomid - inducesovulation by changing hormonal effect on the ovary
3. phobias include projection and displacement
4. blood glucose monitoring of glucose preferred over urine because the level of glucose starts to appear in the urine increases, leading to false negative readings
5. corneal abrasion - unable to close the eye voluntarily, cranial nerve VII affected, secretions unable to protect the eye, complication of CVA, prevented with RN care
other randoms
- when the lungs re-expanded, the fluid in the water seal does not fluctuate with respirations
- pacemaker- increases cardiac output, acts to regulate cardiac rhythm
I attended the class after my first semester of my two year upper division nursing, and was COMPLETELY lost.
So much so that it was hard to pay attention...
However, the very next semester we could go over something and I would remember going over it. If you learn well by using acronyms, poems, songs, etc this is definately a course for you.
It does move it at a fast pace.
And the books are great!!
However, myself and fellow students often joke we paid 290.00 for two books...
I'm not so sure it is work the amount of money we paid for the content we reviewed.
That being said, I know they have different instructors at different locations. Perhaps mine was not so good.
Also, BE SURE that when they tell you that you can take it as many times as you like that they are indeed offering it at places you can attend.
It doesn't help to spend the three hundred dollars and then find out the next two chances you have to take it they aren't even offering it in your state.
Yeah, that happened.
Anyway, good look!
& if you chose not to take the class... I would at least recommend buying the Nursing Made Easy book, it helps! you can buy it at Bookstores, Ebay, etc.
ps- pharm made easy is great too!!
GOOD LUCK!

Treating the cause is indeed the treatment for DIC.
Just warning everyone regarding the NCLEX world vs the real world. Not just you.
