hI,
this is my first post. I am planning on applying for nursing program at HCC. Is there anyone here from HCC and would like to share some of insiders of that program? thanks!
Actually our letters state that the lowest gpa accepted was a 3.166. Sadly, yes my gpa is a tiny smidge below. I have not completed the three courses you have listed. I don't believe I need them for HCC. I already have a BA in English from USF, so I have done, to my understanding; all the classes I need to graduate with the ADN from HCC. I do want to take those three classes, as they are required by USF, and I know I eventually do want to receive a BS in nursing. Actually, If I don't get a seat this time I really wanted to take those three classes this spring, but they are all full besides DEP PSY. I am very sad; this is possibly my third rejection.
Sorry NGRN, I see that you already advised someone regarding The three classes you mentioned as not being required. I do want to take the three classes. I might check out the openings on December 17th. I think that is when they drop people based on non-payment. I still have the tiniest hope to get in. This is my third time. I have a 'C' in one class, and because there are so few pre-reqs, it really affects my GPA.
I understand your pain Melanieisnice. I have all A's & B's, except for Freshman English. It was my first semester back in school after 10 years so I was a little unorganized. I still have to take Sociology, both Anatomy 1&2 + labs & my last math class. I had to take 4 math classes due to my remedial math skills. I am taking my time so I hopefully get A's in the rest of the classes. I wish they would allow you to retake any class even if you passed with a C. Good luck to you!

my advice to you is to go in person to the campus that you would like to take the classes, see the dean/teacher and try for an override. I did that this semester for AP lab and gen. psych. I was told that they would not do it on the phone but my sister told me to go in person and I had luck both times.
My daughter could not get in AP lect/lab for Brandon in the Spring as she did not take Beg algebra yet AND the classes were full. I emailed the teacher on her behalf and sent her to talk to the teacher and the Dean. The Dean said that she would override if the teacher allowed it. He allowed it and she got in.
For Spring, my micro lab was filled, got *** to override it as *** allowed me in her class. I emailed both of them and went to see them in person. Don't despair, go in person, and hound them. I think that it is worth it.
I am surprised to learn that you can re-take any classes. Well, I know you can retake classes, but I didn't think that they were considered. I have been told they strictly take the first grade, and as long as you get at least a 'c' it's a done deal. It makes sense that a dean or appeals committee might be able to help in some way. Well I am in now, and I couldn't be happier. I want to go in there and be one of the best students, and be able to say " yeah, well I was a three time rejected alternate, and proud of it!"
Congrats Melanie!
Well, I have my game plan now. I went to SouthShore and spoke with a counselor. She looked at my transcripts and as soon as I get an "official" transcript from one of the colleges and my HS transcripts (huh? Do I REALLY need those since I have a BS?), she said it will appear I have most everything in order.
However, because of the scheduling, I won't be able to take A&P 1, A&P2 and Microbiology at HCC this Spring. I found an online college, New Mexico Junior College, to take all three this semester, so I can finish in time for the June admission deadline for Jan 2010. So at this point, I won't be taking any classes thru HCC before applying for the nursing program.
My only worry at this point as if the math class I took, Finite Math, will be acceptable; however, the nursing program will not evaluate that until I apply. I would think someone in Advising should be able to tell me that, so if I need a math class, I could take it. I will see if I can obtain a syllabus for that class to submit with my application.
So the GPA for those entering Jan 2009 = 3.166? is that what I read?

I haven't heard anything. However, may I inquire as to what your GPA is and have you completed any other calsses besides the pre-reqs i.e Growth and Nutrion, chemistry or Developmental Psych?
I called the Nursing office last week and they said that the lowest GPA they took last class was 3.198. That seemed rather low to me but who knows. Good luck!
