THIS IS NOT MEANT TO DISCOURAGE YOU THIS IS MEANT TO HELP YOU BE PREPARED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To all of those that got accepted Congrats and to the alternates keep calling and chking. Word of advise to those who got in please start reading NOW!!!!! You will be completely overwhelmed if you dont, start at the beginning and just read. Also start using nclex on that chapter or whatever you read to start to get in the mindset of nursing questions. Get all of your affairs in order because life as you know it is over. Your life will become about tests and deadlines. Go get your books if you can, the first week you cover like 6 Chapters.

I am halfway through and I am just telling you what I wish someone would have told me! Good Luck I have pasted some old syllabus content here for you. Thanks for all of the info NOellelyn. One of my classmates in my AP1 class was in **** Micro class this summer at Brandon and she gave me all of her notes, powerpoints and texts/guide.

I'm happy to hear that an A is attainable as I am a hard worker and I really would like to get an A in Micro and AP2. I have also applied to Erwin Tech for their LPN program just incase I am not accepted in HCC's program and I have a BS degree as well.

I totally understand not wanting to wait 1.5 or 2yrs before one can apply for a RN slot. Hopefully, your number will be one of the earliest ones pulled in the lottery so that you can attend the Aug 2009 class.

Compassionate1: I will also be done with all of my pre-reqs at the end of the Spring 09 semester. However, I still plan on taking Growth and Nutrition and Lifespan: Dev. Psychology in the Summer. I am also going to take Chemistry and lab in the fall. This way, when I am ready to go for my BSN or ABSN, I will have all of the pre-reqs required.

I know this thread is a bit old...., however I was hoping you could give me a bit of a heads up as I will be taking ***** this summer (7 week course). Students on ratemyprofessors.com don't rate her too well, but I've read a number of good things about her here on this site.

Given her teaching style and the amount of material that must be covered, do you believe an "A" is possible for her summer course? Any information that you (or anyone who has taken her) would be willing to pass along would be thoroughly appreciated as I am trying to get a jump on preparing. :)

An A is attainable. She is not bad. The class is not hard imo, it is just a lot of information. She does give a 2pt curve for each test. Her tests are 100 multiple choice questions. The biggest tip that I can give you to be successful in her class is :

1. Don't miss class

2. Be on time

3. Don'w wait for the last minute to study- most important

4. Her lectures are done by powerpoint which she emails to you the night after the lecture- Start reading them the next day.

If you read the slides over and over and take some time off to study right before the test (i.e go to the library or a quite place for about 2-3 hours and review the slides right before the exam you should be ok).

Seeing that it is a 7wk course, the first test is on Eukaryotes/Prokaryotes etc send me a private message and I can send you the first few lessons so you can start to read early.

Her labs are super easy. Just read, read,r ead the material early and often and you should be fine.

Thank you for replying. I really appreciate it! :) Since reading and commenting on this thread last night, I started to get a little nervous about taking her, probably b/c I went back to ratemyprofessor (ha!) and then started reading other threads about her till way too late.

I'm taking A&P II w/ **** Summer A (which I hear will be challenging) and don't necessarily want to take a major/intense Summer B course, if I can help it. I definitely want to learn and I would love to get it over with in 7 weeks....but I'm seriously not sure what's best. I hear that **** at USF is a good professor and that his class is more laid back since it's online. Since his class is Summer C, I'm seriously considering registering for his course as well and deciding last minute whether to drop his or hers.

Just a bit uncertain right now.....

BTW, I've been a member here for a few months now, but I don't post often. I don't think I have the ability to send PMs quite yet...I would LOVE the first few lessons, though.....LOVE LOVE LOVE....LOL! Thanks again! :D

If you work, I probably would not advise taking Micro along with AP2 at the same time. If you are taking 1 in summer A and the other in Summer B then go for it. Her tests are usually 4 chapters and she does allow you to drop 1 of your lowest grades out of the first 4 test. You have to take the 5th test and the final is cummulative but optional. If you opt to take the final, u can drop 1 of your other lowest grades.

Her labs are super easy and the final is open book.

Thank you again. I absolutely detest the idea of a cumulative final....:lol2: for subjects like Micro and A&P, so admittedly, the above information has me leaning in the direction of USF/****.

I work full time, so really not sure how this will play out. We shall see....:)

been reading this thread, interesting info. But does anyone know on the ratemyprofessors.com is the red hot chile pepper a good thing or a bad thing?

**** is intense but funny in a sarcastic way no matter when you take him. He just isn't going to cut slack for A & P. I had him for A&P I & II and micro lecture. Had another guy for micro lab. He's also a PhD in microbiology & worked in a field outside of academics so he knows how to work all this stuff in real life. His tests are brutal but he does curve but that curve will depend on the person who did the best on the test. If they got a 98 that only leaves a tiny percentage for everyone else to be curved. His test style prepared me for nursing style (NCLEX style) questions in a way that no other instructor did. Oh & his wife is an RN so he knows what fundamental knowledge is needed and what's fluff. Knowing what I do now from nursing school I honestly think she might have been the one writing the tests or that they wrote them together.

Far as **** she used to be a horrible teacher & that is why her ratings were so bad. Those attacks on her on the other site was because she used to humiliate her students openly & not keep her posted office hours. These people ranged in age from 24 to in their 50s, they were on time, studied, etc. In fact Bright Futures Scholarships wanted an investigation into her because many students that had it were only doing poorly in her class, which is not a consistent pattern that is found. Things like this are tracked when it comes to scholarship & grant money.

A few years ago **** & **** (math teacher) were notorious on the Brandon campus for being the teachers no one could stand. Even other teachers would not support their classroom tactics.

*** took some time off, recieved remedial training on how to teach because she was not a "real teacher" at first she was an adjunct who had a degree & a job that actually utilized micro so the school thought it would be a good hire. She has since learned how to teach her knowledge and people are doing good. It's more then possible to achieve an A with the new & improved ****. I stand by the poster: read her material promptly, be on time, be respectful, etc.

The chili pepper on the other site means someone thinks the instructor is "hot" (sexy)

Umm...........wow! THANK YOU!!!!! The above is FREAKIN' AWESOME! :yeah:

I'm excited about **** . Treat still scares me, though...LOL! We shall see.

Wow! i ididn't know that about ****. She does seem to know her stuff and she is more receptive to answering questions than her review on rmp would have you to believe. Like I said, don't wait for the last minute to review for her tests and pay attention in class. An A is attainable and a B is more than attainable. Her questions on the test tend to be about 35-45% NCLEX style so this should help you.

Awwww one of my buddies really likes **** now & Treat flunked her a few years ago. Seriously the lady has changed her ways. She's no longer the daughter of Satan.

****!!!! Okay seriously he does joke a lot some people can't stand it at first but his jokes acutually fit the class. It shows how clever this guy is to make A & P cool. He might say things like "hey lawyer girl are you staring at my buff body just because I"m on steroids?" It's funny because he's about 110 lbs soaking wet.

While you stutter & blush he'll move right into steroids affects on the human body or whatever. He makes his students part of the lecture. Although the book is important his lecture is key because he may change certain things like say the amount of saliva (Don't ask why I remember this) from whatever the book says to what he feels its closest too. The answer on the test is .....whatever amount **** said it was in lecture. We called it "**** rule" and for clarification we would say should we got w/the book or your rule on this? Me & few others used to record his class so I could double check my notes at home. I would then go and re-label all my notes from lecture w/the page # from the book that went with it so I could be clear on all of it.

Oh you know his lab tests are in stations and timed right? You have a minute per station to identify what you are looking at and then he will say "switch" and you will all switch to the next station. Be very careful here because you may start at station 15 out of 30 stations or whatever it is for that test. So if you start off at station 15 even though it's your first question you fill it at 15 on the scantron not # 1 and so on like that until you have rotated every station. When you switch it will depend on which way he directs everyone to move so your next station may be q 14 or q 16 and thats what you fill in not # 2 or 3 even though it's your 2nd and 3rd question that you "saw." Go by the # on the label that is on the "station" in order to fill the scantron in correctly. He will explain it very carefully before starting. Now that you know his teaching style it should eliminate any residual fear.

As GI Joe used to say "knowing is half the battle." hahaha
