hI,
this is my first post. I am planning on applying for nursing program at HCC. Is there anyone here from HCC and would like to share some of insiders of that program? thanks!
Shoot I was registered for **** lab but switched it to *** because he didn't have any input on ratemyprofessors. Goes to show you what second guessing yourself can get you.. :imbar
I had *** this past Spring for lab. I did not find him overly hard or anything. I ended up with a B in the lab but that was due in part to me missing a few quizzes and I am not sure that I did as well as I could have on my final. I had just had a baby just a week prior to the final with the lack of sleep and lack of time in general to study like I needed for the final I think this is the only reason why I got a B.
I just looked over the lab book prior to class for the lab that we did the week before and this helped me on the quizzes. I got 100 on the midterm and 100 on my unknown so it had to be the classes I missed and the final that did me in.
Good luck.
A spot may open up for you. :) I would check WebAdvisor periodically. I signed up for his lab class the 2nd or 3rd day of drop/add in the Spring.
Girl I have been checking non stop and finally got into **** Lecture and lab. I was in **** MW class this morning and she seemed really cool I may roll with her instead and keep *** for lab of course.
LOL! No, I didn't know his lab tests were timed and so coordinated. Hmmmm....I definitely appreciate getting that information before hand. I'm in A&P I lab now.....we never have lab reports to do/turn in and our lab tests are very random. We are able to go in pretty much at any time during the scheduled class session, pick any station, stay as long as we want at that station and go back to it as many times as we need to. My lab professor is great.....and I love that he's so laid back (I have found that when I am unsure the first time around, the answer will usually come the 2nd or 3rd time...ha!). Oh well, I'll get over it.....LOL! Please feel free to share any other information about **** lab class. :)If I haven't expressed it enough already, know....you have been an awesome resource!
I do have a few specific questions about A&P II lecture, if you don't mind:
For lectures, does **** use powerpoint slides and if so, does he provide those to the class or must you rely solely on your own notes? BTW, I definitely plan to purchase a digital recorder for this class and Micro (if I choose to stay w/ Treat). I'm really excited about taking him.....b/c it looks like his teaching style is VERY different from my A&P I lecture professor (my A&P I lab and lecture professors are different). I believe my lecture professor this semester was a good choice for I (more anatomy/memorization), but will not necessarily be good for II (more physiology).
I hear **** study guide IS the test. Is that entirely accurate? For A&P I, we're using the Marieb book for lecture, which I have a love/hate relationship w/ currently (loved it at the beginning of the semester, absolutely hate it now since we've moved on to the Nervous system, CNS, PNS and ANS chapters). Ahhh!!!!! :lol2:I love my current professor....he is super sweet and a good professor. However, I do rely heavily on his powerpoint slides (which are taken straight from the book), his test review sheets and my own reading of the textbook when preparing for exams. I do not take a lot of notes during class lecture....really no need to.
Having taken **** 3X, can you provide a recommendation for studying/preparing for his 'killer' exams.....especially for this 7 week summer course? Would you say a skim of the book is sufficient, so long as I attend every class, review the lecture and my class notes thoroughly and know his study guide in and out/backwards and forwards, cross checking w/ the text for those areas that I am not as clear on? Or will I also NEED to read everything in the textbook in order to do well...meaning "A"?
I am so sorry I haven't been on here in a long time & haven't helped you. How did **** class go? I am guessing you're just about done with everything. Did you like him? Did you figure out his quirky tests?

No Worries. :) My first lab class was tonight. Lecture will be tomorrow night.

**** lecture rocks, I don't know about his lab. Yay I just got a spot in *** micro lab. Now i'm debating sticking with micro over the summer or switching to nutrition for a breather. All the nutrition sections are closed now but i'll keep an eye on them. I went to the Erwin tech LPN orientation session tonight. Lots of good information. I'm going to try to get into their January class.
Nutrition is a breeze- you can do it with your eyes close. There is lots of busy work and you have to be mindful of the dates to turn things in but it is really easy.
Regarding Erwin- Can you share what they said about the TEAS test seeing that this is a new test that they are adding besides the TABE?
I know that they had a massive amount of applicants- more so than for the seats they have available for Aug 2009, Jan and March 2010- Did they say how many people applied?
Did they say if they are still using the lotto and how they will decide between so many qualified applicants?
What about the TEAS score, did they say what score you have to have?
Thanks.
Yeah i'm looking over the micro syllabus now. 4 cumulative exams AND an oral presentation, in 10 weeks. I think i'll save it for fall term. I was able to get into a nutrition class with ****.
Regarding Erwin, they have about 560 people who applied for 230 spots, and they will be determining admission based solely on the TEAS. They don't yet know how high/low the scores because they've never used it before, we are the guinea pig group. If you make it into the 230 THEN they will be using the Lotto to determine whether you get into the August '09, Jan '10, or Mar '10 class. My 1st choice is Jan '10. As far as waitlisting goes, they told us if you do get on a waitlist that more than likely they will get to you BUT if they don't then you have first choice for the Aug '10 classes (one of which is an evening class).
The only bearing TABE has is getting you into one of the 4 orientation sessions. It has no bearing on admissions.
That kicks rocks! I can't believe that it is so competitive outthere that it is almost impossible to get into a LPN program. I wonder what type of scores they are looking for.
Did they say how soon they are going to administer the test? At least they will allow those to get first dips on the 2010 classes.
Wow! just Wow!
The TEAS has science, reading, math and I believe comprehension on it. Most of the science is physical science with some chemistry and very little AP. I wonder if they will be looking at all of the components of the test or just math/english. did they say?
Thanks for info.
I was able to get into a nutrition class with ***.
You may already know this, but just in case:
For the first few timed quizzes, I diligently read the chapters beforehand, but I discovered soon after that using google and the index at the back of the textbook worked a heck of a lot better (saved me a lot of time too).
For the midterm and final, I would recommend reviewing the class notes she provides once or twice beforehand and having them on hand for quick reference.
Make sure you attend the orientation session on campus. She may not actually tell the class, but she gives you 20 extra pts for doing so.
HTH. :)
