Anyone apply to Hillsborough Community College for 2010 Spring?

I have. I am hoping that the gpa pool is not as high for that semester.

I have applied for Spring 2010. Those that applied~ did you apply just for one campus or did you for all campuses that offer R.N? Does anyone know what GPA cutoff was for the Fall 2009 day program option? It seems like the night option has higher GPA cut offs. I have a 3.2 and I am flexible where I go~ What are my chances? I have a B.S. degree and had all pre reqs already. I was hoping to take some refreshers to improve my GPA but was told you can not re-take a class you alrady have a c or higher in so my grades are my grades. I have one C which was my freshman year and it was sociology.

You have to apply for one campus if you are applying for the evening program as it only occurs at Dale Mabry in the Spring and plant City in the Fall. The Day program, I believe that you can indicate yoru 1st and 2nd choice but it is not binding.

I heard that the Fall gpa cutoff was 3.42. However, semesters before was 3.19 and 3.2 so you never know.

Hi I am just starting my first year at HCC in the fall.. i just graduated from high school and I am planning on applying for the nursing program once i have all of my prerequisites finished! I just went to orientation today and picked my classes..i was so nervous! I didn't really know what i should start with, a lot of people said English 1 and Math (Beginning Algebra for me) and i did pick those two and my other two classes were microbiology and the microbiology lab and also the elective developmental psychology of life span. Is this a good schedule to have your first year?? I wanted to take anatomy but i couldn't because i didn't have a high enough score on my placement test to be put into College Algebra. Am i able to take anatomy next semester or do i have to take intermediate math first?? And isn't microbiology just like anatomy they both are sciences so why could i take one and not the other? Is microbiology hard? Is it better to take the harder classes first and get most of them out of the way? i mean i don't think it really matters since I'm going to have to take all of them because they are all prerequisites..but am i doing okay for now?? should i take sociology instead..what do most people start with and what do you recommend I take first or over the summer or in fall, etc.

Thanks for your help! Someone please reply to me!! :)

I think that you are doing fine. Probably, I would have taken Psych first or Socialogy and they Lifespan but it's ok- they all play off each other. In Lifespan, you will do more of Erik Erickson's lifestages (8), Piaget child development/cognitive development and probably some mashlows theory.

You will see all 3 of those areas agin in sociology. You don't know college algebra to take anatomy. However, I believe that you have to pass beginning algebra. I never understood why as there is minimal math and I do mean minimal in AP1 except basic addition/subtraction for atoms/ protrons and neutroms.

You may want to take Sociology and AP1 in the Spring 2010, Intermediate algebra and English 2.

The lifespan will be your nursing elective. However, if you plan on eventually doing your BSN and are looking at attending USF- Nutrition is a good option.

Microbiology isn't necessary hard but it is alot of information to digest. My advice is review notes if not daily, every other day. Don't wait until 2-3 days to study for exam as you will be overwhelmed. It is very interesting but lots of information but it is very doable.

Which campus do you attend?

Freshman should not take that many hard classes. That is a lot of hard classes and many credits for a freshman. NO more than 4 classes. English was a lot of writing well it was were I took it in 2002. Stick to a lighter load cause it AINT high school.

I just submitted my application, I have a 3.33 - also hoping the gpa's are lower for Spring 2010. :hngon:I'm just hanging on.. waiting, till August/September.

I agree with Ms. Jazzo. College courses are different. It depends on the person. Take English & Math, if you are strong in the sciences then take Micro.. be sure to study(read assigned chapters & do reviews). Sociology may be easier than Micro. Remember...once you get the grade, you're stuck with it & HCC wont let you do retakes. With nursing gpa's being so competitive, you want to start off with good grades.

which professor has easy labs for a&p II at HCC
