Anyone gone through A+P 1+2 and not cover a system?

Published

I just noticed on my syllabus for A+P 2.. which is the same CC I took A+P 1 at but a different campus...that the following are not on the list to be covered at ALL

The Immune System

The Lymphatic System

Nutrition, Metabolism, and Thermoregulation

These WOULD be covered had I taken A+ P2 at the same campus I took A+P 1 at ( I know b/c I bought the powerpoints from my AP+1 teacher as I really liked her layout)..but I had to switch campuses for scheduling.

So basically I will finish A+P 2 at this campus...and be 2 "systems" and 1 "area" of education not taught at all. I guess I have to learn them on my own ( I can do this)but I'm really confused as to why 1 school w/ 3 different campuses would have different criteria at each campus.

The only thought I have is that it's a shorter semester ( 10 weeks summer instead of 14 weeks fall)...but I can't imagine just chopping out the entire immune and lymphatic systems.

Has anyone gone through A+P 1 and 2 and had a system NOT covered?

It's not that the school doesn't require it..it's that one campus covers it and the other campus doesn't. I, unfortunately, am taking part 2 at the campus that isn't covering them. I think it should be uniform across the campuses since it's all the same college.

I am going to ask the professor today about it.

Yes, you are right it is strange. But think positively :p

Maybe their structure is different and you will be getting it later on :)

We almost entirely skipped the integumetary system covered it in a small portion of one lecture.

from what people have told me at work, there were no questions from A & P on their RN boards. I find that hard to believe. Maybe not the anatomy, but I would think physiology woiuld fit into a lot of diagnosis, and disorders. Since my particular study guides and books cover so many topics, and even more than I see listed, I feel good. But, its your education, what do you want to learn? I've been an LPN for a long time, and I find I continually am looking up things, and am always learning. Sometimes I am angry I wasn't taught more in my LPN classes, but then what all can they give you in such a short time. Hardly a day goes by I don't look something up on the internet or the library at work, or at minimual in a nursing journal. I have a new job now and it requires me to hit the books hard. I've had to put my studies on hold, to study for my new position. Now, just when I think I'm able to return to my studies, they dropped off a pack of 25 learning packets and tests, additional to the 22 I had to take to get the job in the first place. I've been here two months and attended two wonderful lectures, and have had to take at least 10 other learning packets inbetween starting and now. This is quite normal I understand at my new job. They want us all to be on the same page. I said all this to say, learning never ends, and if you really want to do well, you will continue it in one way or another even after school ends.

Talked to my professor today. He is new and he said that he thought we had covered those 2 during A+P 1. I gave him the list of what we covered at my campus( A+P1_ but wasn't sure what they covered at the campus I am at now. I told him I just thought it would have been uniform. He said he would look into it and that he will adjust the schedule if need be...he set a lot of time aside for the heart/blood/circulation and said he may need to shorten that up in order to get them in. According to him lymphatic could be covered in 1 class and probably immune as well. We shall see:)

BoonersMom, we are just starting that now in A&P II. Are there any websites you could recommend for it?

Thanks :)

choose student edtition (not instructor edition) then click on the link that says "study partner", choose the link that says "essential study partner" then choose the button that says "integration and coordination"...this is a really great website, it has interactive quizzes and crosswords and more....gl!

I just spend some time doing the end of the unit tests. They are really good. Thank you for the site.

This was the site for my textbook for A&P. I absolutely loved it. I thought it was a big help.

They might be covered in another system. Nutrition is usually covered in nursing school separately or a required separate course, but may be touched on in the digestive system. The lymphatic system sometimes is covered with the circulatory system, which may cover some aspects of immunity. The nervous system, particularly the brain, is where we studied thermoregulation. Metabolism can be a multisystem process and may be touched on the endoccrine system, especially when the thyroid is studied, and the digestive system.

So while they may not be separate topics you should learn about it as they are important processes.

Good luck.

Immune and lymphatics are often covered better in pathophysiology...as is thermoregulation. Nutrition is most often a course by itself, often not a required course.

We didn't cover those in Anatomy but we did cover Lymphatic and Immune in Microbiology and then Nutrition and metabolism in my required Nutrition class. We covered the immune system (of which the lympatic system is also a part of in its function) in Microbiology is good detail.

Hmm, we covered all of those in 2 semesters.
