Anyone going to Modesto Junior College?

Published

I'm just curious! I'm just starting (at the ripe 'ol age of 35, LOL!) looking into a career in nursing. I've worked in hospitals and clinics doing medical transcription for years and years, and way back when used to be a pre-physical therapy major (I've taken chemistry, anatomy, biology...don't know if they would count, as it's been several years). I would be attending MJC for pre-reqs and (fiingers crossed) the nursing program eventually and I would really love to have a student's view, how difficult it is to get into the program, any general advice, etc.

jjhc2006,

I know its crazy how long they expect you to wait. I guess I just have to reapply in May:o. That's great that you only have to take one more class:yeah:. I will keep my fingers crossed that you get in on your first try! I went online and registered for the online math class that you mentioned, but I just realized that it doesn't end until 5/28/2010. We have to have our apps in by 5/31/2010 so I am not sure that it will give me enough time to submit my trascripts. I think I will just take it at MJC. Hopefully it wont be too hard because I'm not good with math. Good luck in chem!!

Mammato3,

Thanks! Good luck to you and keep in touch with anything new

Hey Mammato3!

Just thought I would let you know that we are not moving to Fresno. I am hoping that we both make it in for Fall 2010!:D With this being your 5th time applying, I am sure you have a guarantee by now? This will be my third time. I was wondering, when you apply this time, will you say something to anyone in the Allied Health about this being you 5th time applying? When I applied for Spring 2010, the secretary asked me a few questions about my desire to get in (I told her I wasn't ready) and I believe the president of the program was there listening in on our conversation. When one of the main nursing instructors came up to Columbia College (I did my science pre-reqs there) to speak about the nursing program, she said that although it is a lottery, they do look personally at how many times a student has applied. She also stated that USUALLY they let people right in if it is their fourth time applying which obviously didn't happen in your case.

Just curious as to how you will go about things this application period...

Hope you had a great Christmas and New Year!

jjhc2006,

This last application period, I met with the director of the nursing program to discuss with her about how many times I have applied and that I was concerned about getting in to Math 90 since I had a horrible registration date. (I ended up getting into math for this semester). When I apply in May, I will also let them know that it is my 5th time and how frustrated I am about this. I do know that they gave those who have applied 5 or more times, an extra boost to help their chances of getting in. So, I am hoping they will do it for fall 2010 as well. I will have my fingers crossed for the both of us:D! I hope you and your family had a great Christmas and New Year as well:D

Hello Everyone,

I am quite nervous about applying for the ADN program at MJC this May 2010. This will be my 3rd time applying and I know that they are only taking applications once a year now. I talked to the receptionist in the Allied Health Dept and she told me that the way they're going to do it is that they are going to choose the first 65 or so for the Fall 2010 semester and then create a waitlist there after. Those on the waitlist are going to be moved into any positions that fall out within the first few weeks of the Fall Semester. The remaining people on the waitlist will be guaranteed a spot in the Spring of 2011. Does that make sense? I'm just wondering what my chances are. She said that last semester over 600 people applied, and I'm wondering how many times they each have applied. I hate waiting...errr...and I didn't get into Delta for the 3rd time too. I'm starting to think about applying to Merced and Sacramento. Ya feel me?! LOL! :/

Hey Mammato3 I was just wondering if you talked to anyone when you turned in you're app? I'm in the same boat as you! This is my 5th time applying and have already received denial letters from all the other schools I applied to. I'm so frustrated I just don't know what to do. I was just hoping they told you something good!!! Good luck on getting in!!! I will keep my fingers crossed for you!!!:redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe

1DAYRNIHOPE,

The only thing that I know is that they are drawing for both fall 2010 and spring 2011 and we will know on July 23rd if we were accepted to either semester. Those who are accepted for fall will get their packet and those who are accepted for spring will get their packets at a later date. They are also doing something extra for those who have applied 6 or 7 times. Of course not us 5th timers!! I know how frustrated you are and I am sorry that you didn't get into the other schools. I will pray that we both get in:D

Well if that's true about them helping out the people who apply the 6th and 7th time that would be us for Spring 2011!! Am I right in thinking this? Maybe Its just wishful thinking?? Thank you for the prayers I will do the same for you! Have you heard from any other school you applied to? This whole wait till July thing is going to kill me!!! :uhoh3::uhoh3::uhoh3:

1DAYRNIHOPE,

I hope you are right but I don't think they count it as 2 apps because they are doing the 1 app period every may so I think our names will still be in there only 5 times for both fall and spring:crying2:. I can't bear the thought of not getting in this time around because if we don't, then we have to wait an entire year to apply again:barf01:

I have only applied to MJC because I am unable to commute. My husband commutes and I am the only one I have to take my kids to school every morning. Hang in there, July will be here before we know it!

Is it the 23rd yet??????:uhoh3::uhoh3::uhoh3: I'm going crazy!!!

I know!!!! It's driving me crazy too!!! I just heard that MJC had 715 qualified apps this time around!!! Yikes!! that's up from about 600 last time:uhoh3:

WHAT????:uhoh3: I was hoping that the new math requirement was going to weed out some people!!!! At least they take 65 a semester! Sac city, ARC, and sierra only take like 30!!! Well here's to the next 11 days!!!!!
