Anyone going to Modesto Junior College?

Published

I'm just curious! I'm just starting (at the ripe 'ol age of 35, LOL!) looking into a career in nursing. I've worked in hospitals and clinics doing medical transcription for years and years, and way back when used to be a pre-physical therapy major (I've taken chemistry, anatomy, biology...don't know if they would count, as it's been several years). I would be attending MJC for pre-reqs and (fiingers crossed) the nursing program eventually and I would really love to have a student's view, how difficult it is to get into the program, any general advice, etc.

Hi, I almost applied at Modesto Junior college. They are currently on a lottery system and give priority to people who have at least 12 units in residence at Modesto JC. (Thats why I didnt apply because I wouldnt have) I took Micro there and liked the campus and everything. But like all lotteries its a luck thing. Try Merced College if you can, they are a wait list of about 2 years but its a guaranteed "in". Just finish your prereqs and sign up. But it sounds like you already have most of them so even better.

Thank you for the reply -- that helps a lot. Thanks, too, for the info about Merced. I'll definitely look into that, too.

Hi Dvas00! Did you ever get into MJC? I just started my first semester there. It's challenging, but I am really enjoying it. Would love to talk w/you if you are at MJC. :typing

I am currently going to Modesto Junior College. Would love to chat with you about the process of making it into the program. Are you currently doing pre-reqs?

Sorry, should have clarified...I am in the 1st semester of the ADN program. Absolutely love it, altho very challenging and demanding.

8 weeks down and looking forward to summer break. Would love to chat more. Can I send a private email? :typing

Sure I would love that. My e-mail is [email protected]. Look forward to hearing from you!

Hi I am looking for an RN program and thought about checking Modesto. I was in the delta RN program about 9 years ago then stopped because I had my daughter. I tried to go back to delta but the way they changed the entry I was told I would not make the lottery due to some C's in my science prereqs. They also dont allow re-dos of those classes. Do you have any advice about your school? Thanks

Hey there..DVAS00 Curious is you ever started at MJC and how it is going? I too am looking into their RN program vs Delta. I just need to finish Physio. Delta's instructors do not have a good reputation. Any thoughts, helpful advice??

Thank you

Hi there, F4mom. My question was from a long time ago -- I had some life circumstances that kept me away from school for a couple of semesters -- but I'm done with my prereqs, passed the TEAS test, so my application is in for Spring semester. MJC does a lottery out of qualified students -- your name goes in the pool once the first time you apply, then twice the second time you apply. I've heard (not sure how accurate) that it doesn't usually take more than three times before you get in. The MJC program is supposed to be really good. Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll try my best to answer them :)

Thanks for your reply and Good Luck!! I made a counseling appt today with MJC to get info and classes lined up. I am excited about a few different things about MJC. My first inguiry was about their Physiology instructors. I read about them on ratemyprofessors.com. After reading up on quite a bit of info/classes, I checked more deeply into MJC. I took Anatomy and other classes @ MJC 12 years ago. So I am nervous about what I have retained. I've already been exploring learning websites to refresh my brain. I'll be interested to see how it goes for you. But all in all their program gets good reviews!

Have you heard anything about as of Spring 2009-needing intermediate algebra?? YIKES!! :uhoh3:

Thanks again and I wish you the best!

JMoney; How are you surviving?? It's been a year (atleast from reading you previous post) Hope all has gone well. Any advice?? interesting points? I am excited to be exploring MJC as an option. It almost seems these days that one should apply @ several programs.

Any advice for a newbie? :bowingpur

Thanks,

F4Mom
