Anyone going to Modesto Junior College?

Published

I'm just curious! I'm just starting (at the ripe 'ol age of 35, LOL!) looking into a career in nursing. I've worked in hospitals and clinics doing medical transcription for years and years, and way back when used to be a pre-physical therapy major (I've taken chemistry, anatomy, biology...don't know if they would count, as it's been several years). I would be attending MJC for pre-reqs and (fiingers crossed) the nursing program eventually and I would really love to have a student's view, how difficult it is to get into the program, any general advice, etc.

Mammato3,

Oh ya if you can please keep me updated on your co-workers status bc if she gets called for the program i'm pretty much after her!lol:) Thanks!!

209girl,

I will definitely let ya know:D:D:D

Hi Mammato3,

HI:) Has you co-worker heard anything from the program yet?

Hi, i'm new to the forum. This fall will be my 3rd semester at MJC, pre-nursing. I'm so excited. I would love to chat with any of you, especially the ones in my area attending MJC.

Hi all. It's been a while since I have been here. I am starting my 4th (AND LAST) semester in the nursing program August 31st and will graduate in December. Woo Hoo.

Someone asked a question about how many students are accepted each semester. Normally they can do 75 per semester, but keep in mind that number gets reduced by returning students.

At the end of 1st semester, 10 people failed theory. So, they were given 1 more chance and started 1st again the next semseter - so that lowered the # of new students who could come in from 75 to 65.

Now there are budget cuts, so I don't know what is going to happen this fall for the incoming 1st semester class.

My only concern right now is getting a job when I graduate. The hospitals are not hiring as many nurses right now and there are quite a few out there looking for jobs. I am willing (although I don't want to) commute to get my first RN job. There are always nursing jobs available - which is why this field is so nice to get into.

JMoney and MelanieS,

Hi!! I have a question for you two. I'm on the wait list for the program and my number has moved down so I'm pretty close. When you guys started your 1st semester did people drop the first day of class? I'm just wondering if i still have some sort of chance...I'm just soooo anxious. I want to get in!!lol

Hi. Not sure what # you are on the waitlist, but it is possible. People's lives change and they drop. The first person dropped during the 2nd week - she realized she just could not handle it. After that, no one else until the 10 failed theory at the end of the semester.

209girl,

No, he hasn't heard anything yet. He doesn't think he will get in. But you never know how many people will drop. Stay positive:D:D I just noticed that you messaged me before and asked where I worked. I do have a CNA license however I could not find a job as a CNA either. I work for Sutter Gould, the briggsmore center behind memorial hospital. I work in the xray dept.

MelanieS,

Welcome to allnurses:wink2::wink2: I am currently waiting to be accepted to MJC's RN program. I will be applying to the program on August 1st for the 4th time:crying2::crying2: I am hoping this will be my last time applying. How many of your prereq's have you finished?? Are you applying in August as well?

JMoney,

Congrats!!!:yeah::yeah: How hard is the program?? I have heard different things from different people. Some say it is hard and some say it is just time consuming. What do you think? Knowing that 10 people failed theory really scares me.:uhoh21: I don't think it will take you very long to find a job. I know that Memorial is hiring as well as Sutter Gould for clinic nurses.

Mammato3,

Ya I'm trying to stay positive:) Last time I called to check the status of my wait list number I moved down to num 7 so that means your co-worker is num 5 on the WL! Who know lots can happen til Aug 31st!!

JMoney,

Hi!! I'm num 7 on the WL so far! I've been waiting patiently but i'm sooo anxious!lol. How exciting for you, you're almost done:yeah:
