Anyone ever take NCLEX right after school & no extra studying? And Pass?

Published

Just taking a poll. I'm wondering if any/how many took NCLEX RN right out of school and passed pretty much w/out any studying or with very little review? I read one poster that that happened too, and am wondering how many others. I have 10 days to take mine and just now will begin studying. Too burnt out on studying after school, needed time off, then lost motivatioin. Now crunch, Im motivated! Yet somehow I wonder does it really help or is it just that you know the stuff deep down to begin with. Not sure! From what I understand folks end up guessing at the majority anyway!

So curious about how long folks study in general and passed.

I took a month off because I burned out from NS. Graduated May13th, started doing 25-35 questions a day on June 13th and read the Kaplans book a week before the test and test on July 13th (exactly 2 months after graduation) and passed the test. Good luck, I wish you well. I would recommend buying the Kaplan's book and reading it a week or so before your test. If you haven't already, don't waste your money on a review class (I didn't and still passed). It was hard but learning how to answer the questions is the key--even if you don't know what the hell it's talking about--Kaplans book did wonders for me. Good luck again. Keep us posted.

you all are 1 in a million:trout:

Did kaplan help? Thanks, Marcene

Thanks everybody for the input! Yes, the letters nclex make us shudder in a bad way for sure! ha! Hey I can't wait to get it overwith! One week from tomorrow and I hope I can return to this thread and report I passed. :uhoh3: I'll start studying tomorrow..but I'm only using one book - a book on prioritization, delegation of all things...one written actually by one of my instructors along with some other colleagues. So that should get me to thinking...there are about 16 chapters (each of 20 questions or so), plus another few chapters of more complex case scenarios..so I'll go over that and that's about it. Just go for it after that. I did do about 100 or so of the questoins off the lippincott CD but I tell ya...they aren't about that stuff ...not really..its more about trying to figure out what disease in my opinion.... so I'm sticking w/my book! I used it to help me study for tests in my last few weeks of school; because they suddenly hit us with those types of questions, we really hadn't had any like that till then and were all in shell shock..but anyway it helped me alot...so back to that book I go! But yeah...I think that's about enough for me... I'm just too burnt to try to 'study' anything else... I did a job interview today - drove 3 hours to get to it... and 2 people sat down with me and asked me about a couple dozen or so case scenario questions and what would I do...and then wrote down what I said. I was sweating bullets I tell you because it was real life stuff ...and I was under pressure. Well they gave me feedback (it took two hours, this interview including a little chit chat, etc) after each question ...they gave me immediate feedback and said "yes, that's exactly what happened" or "Yes that's right" etc...so at least I got them all right!! But I tell you I was sweating bullets at first...it was almost as bad as taking the nclex!!! I wish we'd done that type of stuff in school cuz it really got me thinking!! (And sweating) and I told them that too = they laughed..which is good. They were nice; and I understand why the questions, they want to make sure you have some base knowledge and critical thinking... but WHEWEE. So the good part is..after I sat thru that and answered correctly ..I began to think, gee..maybe I CAN be a nurse..maybe I CAN pass the nclex!!! ;)

Actually, I had five NCLEX books and paid to take Kaplan's online course. Didn't realize I had so many books until I was packing my books up the other day.... I still shudder at the initials N C L E X.... :)

I have two Saunders books still wrapped in plastic!! I'm afraid to tally up all the extra books I bought throughout nursing school. I have the Prentice Hall Reviews & Rationales series, the Incredibly Easy series, 6 or 7 care plan books, Wong's Pediatrics, several different drug books..the list is endless, too bad my purse wasn't!:uhoh3:

I used them all...I guess that's all that matters :)

I hope I did. I graduated at the beginning of May, though my last nursing class was over in late March (the last semester was set up so we have long days and finish early), and took the NCLEX yesterday. I'd been on vacation and just kind of hanging out since then and had no class or studying other than some pages about drugs I found online. I had 76 question and really don't want to take it over.

Wow.... well come back here when you get your 'pass' and let us know!!! ;)

Well, I test tomorrow the 27th. We'll see how it goes. Haven't 'studied' been too burnt from school. So we'll test the theory that school prepares you to pass the test!

Yep. I did 200 peds questions two days before (felt that peds was my weak area) and got 75 questions and passed.

Well that's good to hear! :) I think peds is one of my weaker areas..well ATI didn't think so ...but I do ha ha...and OB also. So I was going to try to do some delegation questions on that tonight; however the book I have only has about 25 questions. Better than none. I think delegation/priority is my weak area so I'll be skimming questions tonight/this afternoon ... maybe a couple hundred..and that is all.....

So yes I'm really pushing that theory that school preps us!! By the grace of God it will in my case!!!

And to top it off....I believe I've got a job offer waiting in the wings; dependent on if I pass! They told me they'd be checking my score 2 days after I test (well checking the Dept of licensing) so ..that pretty much tells me it's my job. So alot riding on this one... that's what I get for interviewing right before my exam!

I believe it is the quailty of your education that will let you pass rather than not studying..If your school emphasized all the main points, then you are ready..But you know all schools are not created equal in terms of preparing you for NCLEX..

Yep. I am wondering if all tests are created equal in terms of ATI versus HESI, etc etc. My ATI said I had 99 percent chance of passing. But...what does that mean to me..I don't know squat about the ATI only that we were required to take it. The class right before me in my school had a 100 percent pass on the RN..and they all scored 98 and above percent on the ATI so who knows. The class before them, 1/2 failed. So I don't know. I know one thing, my school wasn't easy by any means! However we never got to practice or even learn the delegation/prioritization stuff till way at the very end...and we all told them that was a main weak spot.
