Anyone else ready to tell their present job to kick rocks?

I'm presently working full-time (9 - 5 office job) while working through pre-reqs, applying for nursing school (all apps are in!) and preparing for the NET (the big day is 2/10). I'm trying to PATIENTLY wait out the next 6 months until nursing school starts (got to get in first! But, I'm staying positive) at my job.

My job is definitely NOT the worst..and I AM grateful and thankful for a job in this present economy. But, I've been here for 2 years..I'm BORED TO TEARS..and I find myself getting easily annoyed with work. I keep telling myself "6 months until nursing school..6 months until nursing school..". I WILL be working but it won't be at this job. I hope to get a unit secretary position (will be hearing back soon!) and working as a substitute teacher during school. Yes, it will be stressful..but something I've got to do.

I had a meeting with my supervisor today about a project I've been delayed on..but because they keep giving me EVERYONE else's work...and not allowing me time to do my own projects. I WILL be speaking on it if they try to give me another ounce of work..but I felt like telling my boss (who I DO like) for this job to kick rocks because I'm OUT!!:lol2:

Just another Friday vent..but anyone else ready to start nursing school and quit your present job?!?!

I totally am!! I love my job but I am soooo ready to get started on Nursing school!! Good luck!

I'm quitting my job on Monday!! lol. Nursing school starts in May and I'll be working with my mother until then!

OH, to be in your shoes!

I got laid off on Friday. I did all my pre-reqs while working FT. NS starts in May....Notice my age....and my user name....I just couldn't quit working and go to NS like you. I am jealous!:yeah:

Me, well - unemployment is 1/4 of my monthly net. It is $450 less than my mortgage. Then there is utils, food, 3 car payments, insurance, credit cards......blah blah. I wish I was in my 20s with less on my plate!:crying2:

While I'm not your age..nor do I have children..I have simpliar payments as you do. I am certainly NOT quiting work to go to nursing school. I still need to work..to eat! I have rent, food, utilities, car payments, school loans, credit card..blah blah. I'm not married nor do I live wtih my parents or have that option so everything I need or want..is soley my responsibility.

Not saying it's easy for you at all..but it's not as simple for me (and others) as you think!

Oh..and I mean PREVIOUS school loans (I already have a BA). All my pre-reqs I'm paying for in cash.

I had previous school loans....but got those in the early 80's so they were paid a long time ago! LOL

My prev degree was in EE.

Hope it all works well for you!

I can't wait to tell my previous school loans that I'm in school..so they can go in deferment!! But, once I'm out of nursing school..that's a different story..lol

Same for you!

I'm ready to quit also. Good thing I stayed on. I have been applying to NS for 1.5 years now and have been turned down twice. I'm currently working my full time job and a p/t one at a hospital. I'm ready to get in school and quit the F/T job. It started out great. They let me take off days that I had class and make up my time - working weekends, but now the workload has increased so much, that I'm having to work F/T M-F and at the hospital now on the weekends. I'm getting burned out, but hopefully can last until NS starts in August 09. I pretty sure I got in at the NS at the hospital and can hardly wait to quit my M-F job. I love my boss, but the rest of the politics I can do without.

I'm laid off as of the end of this month. I saw the writing on the wall and started my prereqs for nursing school last fall. I already have a degree, so I only needed A&P, Nutrition, and Human Growth and Development. I'm taking some others to get them out of the way. I have my application in for this fall and my fingers crossed.

I'm sure I'll have to work some, and I'll probably deplete the savings I have, but I want to take out as little as possible in loans.

Right now I have about a month of tongue biting at work so I'll leave on good terms and get my severance pay.

Regards and good luck to all,

Tom

OMG! Finally someone who feels the same way I do. I start the nursing program in September and I am so anxious to start.

I want to tell my co-workers to "LEAVE ME ALONE" but then I feel bad that I will be abandoning them in a couple months. LOL!

I was accepted into the Spring program but quickly realized that I was not ready to be a full time student just yet. I thought I could continue to work full time while in the program but that is not the case. So, I am stuck working for a couple more months before I fully dedicate my life to becoming a nurse.

I definitely feel this way, and have posted about it before. Of course, there are some benefits to my position--I like most of my coworkers quite a bit, I have a very flexible schedule, and I make a wage that is almost liveable-- but there are also some hefty drawbacks--very stressful, I feel like I am constantly working, having to deal with beuracractic nonsense and crazy people, tons of uncompensated travel, very unclear work expectations, etc. I work in Community Mental Health, and things are being cut back in my field too (as it is government funded). I anticipate seeing coworkers having to go to part time or hourly status in the near future, and not by choice. I myself am planning on going part time soon so that I can take more classes, but my husband and I have been blessed with financial circumstances that allow us to do that. I recognize how fortunate I am, so I try not to complain too much, but honestly, there are many days where the only thing that keeps me sane is to remind myself that I will be starting nursing school (hopefully) spring of next year, and won't be having to do this much longer. The idea of having an actual work schedule and real days off where no one calls me for work related junk, is the equivalent to me of smelling a freshly baked apple pie that I am about to eat, when all I have been eating for some time is frezzer burned popsicles. :smokin:

Good luck to all! I hope your next career fulfills all the voids you are presently experiencing.
