  1. Good for you! I'm an older person but a new nurse. I love nursing, but realize it isn't for everyone. You are never too old to change careers - so long as you are still breathing - go for it!
  2. I use the clip on/retractable for my badge and a breakaway lanyard for my keys.
  3. Limited to no computer access? Definetly don't do it! You may have all the time in the world, but you still need computer access for History - projects, papers, etc. Finish your pre reqs first then start on the nursing core. Now is not the time to combine nursing classes. I suggest getting pre reqs out of the way so you can focus solely on the nursing classes which are a different beast in themselves. You aren't wasting you time by just taking 1 or 2 or 3 pre req classes, but I wouldn't combine them with a nursing core class.
  4. Thank you for your post! I am just now reading it because I am about to take the plunge!:)
  5. Don't do it!!! If you know algebra and are really good at it, then maybe. I'm not and I would suggest that you take it one class at a time and try to have a life. Just my feelings:) You will get done. There is a light at the end of the tunnel!
  6. Sounds like you need all the books for this class - from what the other comments indicate... I suggest going to half.com, if you haven't already purchased your books:)
  7. I haven't worked at that hospital, but have ridden the train past it. The demographics of the people riding the DART train to and from that area is as diverse as the population of the area. Take a ride on the train and you will see that at Park Lane (l think that's the correct stop at Presby) It's a nice area, surrounded by a lot of low rent apartments. Being on the DART rail system, you will get many pts who have no other means of transportation at Presby. You will also get people from "old money" backgrounds there as it's in an area of "old money" retirees and their children. Hope I got my point across w/o offending anyone.
  8. I went through career training once when I was between jobs. Their advice was - whichever person brings up salary first loses. So, like many of the posters here, my advice is to work on the interview and selling yourself, get the job and then they will bring up the issue of money.
  9. You're a guy. I'm not sure that counts. Guys lose weight soo much easier than us women. I swear, I gain weight if I just smell food - let alone the stress hormones that kick in and make us retain water!
  10. It hasn't been nicknamed Hell Centro for nothing:)
  11. If you're doing the table in MSWord, you can fit more on a page by hidding some of the text. You can always open the text or read it on line, but just to keep the total number of pages down, wrap the text or just use the smallest font size.
  12. I'm ready to quit also. Good thing I stayed on. I have been applying to NS for 1.5 years now and have been turned down twice. I'm currently working my full time job and a p/t one at a hospital. I'm ready to get in school and quit the F/T job. It started out great. They let me take off days that I had class and make up my time - working weekends, but now the workload has increased so much, that I'm having to work F/T M-F and at the hospital now on the weekends. I'm getting burned out, but hopefully can last until NS starts in August 09. I pretty sure I got in at the NS at the hospital and can hardly wait to quit my M-F job. I love my boss, but the rest of the politics I can do without.
  13. I got a copy of the HESI study guide from the school library. That's what I used to study from. I passed the 1st attempt. Good luck on your next test!
  14. I call it "hitting the wall" because you just can't read or write another sentence. It's burn out. I'm looking for suggestions as well. I also refer to it as wanting the Staples Easy button. Thanks for everyone's suggestions!
  15. Sounds like you "hit the wall". :banghead:You can do this. Just hang in there and think like previously posted - one day at a time, one day at a time. You're so close to finishing, maybe count the weeks/days/months to be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Think about how far you have come. Also, TAKE SOME VITAMINS - if you're not already doing so. They will help you cope with the stress and replenish your body. I'm in a 2 yr ADN program and have heard that, locally, the 4 Yr students don't have as much clinical time as they spend in lecture. Maybe you just need more clinical practice, which you will get plenty of - once you graduate - just get there.
