  1. Hello, I will be going to LA Soutwest for the ADN program this summer and from what I know, it is a day program. I am having to quit my job to go. And I do not believe you get paid for clinical hours. I will know more after orientation on June 5th. But it is only 3 days a week so you an work the other 4 days depending on when your clinicals are. Will you be attending a LACC for nursing?
  2. I will, I will. I to am excited and scared. I am going into this with no nursing experience! I start Nursing Boot Camp (LOL, yes boot camp) in June and classes start in August. Its an ADN program.
  3. I have no clue at the moment how I will get through school not working. My first stop is to my schools financial adi office to go over my options. But of course, loans will play a major factor.
  4. Whew...LOL! Right now I am currently working at a Pharmacy so I am learning new drugs and therapies everyday. I do need to learn drug categories though. And that is a great idea to learn the most commonly prescribed drugs. I have an idea but I am sure I haven't even scratched the surface of all the drugs out there. It will be a good idea to start practicing vital signs. I think my main concern will be unit conversions and all the terminology. I took A&P seperately so I may need to go back and review that. Thanks! I am so excited but I know its going to be hard work!
  5. Thank You for your comments. It's funny you mention Pharmcology, for the last 3 years I have been working at a mail order pharmacy so I am learning new drugs and therapies everyday. I was working as a tech but switch to the administrative side. I think my biggest hurdle will be all the unit conversions and terminology. I am coming into nursing realisticly. They say nursing is in demand right now but I know that jobs are hard to come by, especially for new grads with no experieince. I am thinking of relocating and working as a traveling nurse. But who knows where this career can take me. I will definetely start preparing myself for what ever comes...
  6. Hi all. I am a Southern California resident and am currently waiting to begin a nursing program. I want to get a head start on the basics before starting in the fall. I have lots of down time at my job and want to prepare for the nursing program. What should I know? I have 6 months and counting... And suggestions would be most helpful and appreciated.
  7. Hello. I was hoping you guys could give me some pointers. I am due to start the Nursing Program in the Fall. I want to get a head start on some basics. What should I know before my first semester of nursing school? In my current job, I have a lot of down time and want to prepare myself for what is coming in 6 months and counting...Any pointers?
  8. Yikes! That is a bummer. I am looking for loans as well. I don't plan to work while in the R.N program and don't know whether to get a student loan or a personal loan?
  9. Congrats to everyone. I will be doing the ADN program at Los Angeles Southest in the Fall 2009!
  10. Spidey's mom, I am so glad you posted your comment. I hav eno hospital or patient care experience and will be entering the program this Fall. I figure, they will teach me everythign I need to know so I might as well enjoy my summer. Am I wrong?
  11. Hi everyone. I am so excited to be going into the ADN program at Southwest College in Los Angeles in the Fall. I have a B.S in Health Science and quickly realized that you need to have an R.N to get a good job in a hospital. Luckily I only had to take a couple more of the pre-reqs. Anyway, I was accepted into the Spring Semester program but was not ready financially so I will be doing the fall program. I guess that gives me time to save some money and search for scholarships and loans. I can not wait to embark on this journey with my classmates! I am coming in with little to no experience so I know I have a mountain to climb. Anyone in the same boat with no experieince?
  12. OMG! Finally someone who feels the same way I do. I start the nursing program in September and I am so anxious to start. I want to tell my co-workers to "LEAVE ME ALONE" but then I feel bad that I will be abandoning them in a couple months. LOL! I was accepted into the Spring program but quickly realized that I was not ready to be a full time student just yet. I thought I could continue to work full time while in the program but that is not the case. So, I am stuck working for a couple more months before I fully dedicate my life to becoming a nurse.
