anyone actually get good grades in nursing school?

Published

hi everyone. im new to the board. ive just started reading people's posts a few days ago, and im starting to get really nervous about nursing school. im (hopefully) starting a bsn program in the fall, and i expect to do quite a bit of studying, but it seems like everyone is saying that no matter how much you study you will still probably not get very good grades. I was just wondering if anyone out there actually does get ok grades, or should i just expect to get c's? :uhoh21:

I was practicing NCLEX questions before I started nursing school

same here... i borrowed an NCLEX book and started taking the test questions before school started. i think it gave me a heads up on everyone. i read the kaplan and learned about distracters, how to eliminate two answers, and how to reword questions. it helped me so much.

the select all that apply are still the most difficult, imho.

yes they are...my school includes them in our exams.

I have a 4.0 in nursing school so far. I've made a nice little cushion with my grades this semester, so the trend will easily continue this semester. I plan on graduating with that 4.0 intact.

I protect my GPA because I plan on going to grad school, and I'll need excellent grades to get into a good grad school.

All that said, I'm not so sure grades impact clinical practice all that much. I have some C classmates who work too much to study very much to keep up better grades, yet they are fantastic in clinical.

I went into the program with a 3.9. I'm barely passing. I'm in my first semester of nursing. I'm so frustrated. I study my butt off and still only get in the low 80's. Anything less than 78 is failing in my school. I'm on a scholarship and have to maintain a 2.9 to stay in. I just dont know what else to do. The tests are ridiculous. Many others are failing as well. I have to pass. I have no other option. I'm 37 years old, my family is counting on me.

I love clinicals, I'm doing very well. I'm more of a hands on person. We dont get graded in clinicals, it's just pass/fail. I think it is unfair to those of us who are struggling with the tests to have everything riding on test grades.

It's been a bad day for me. I scored a 76 on this last test and studied at least 20 hours for it.

I see those who say "C=Failing" and "I have an A-/93 avg".

In my school, its 80+ to pass, but an 80 is a C :( and a 93 is a very solid B :(

Ouch! Our nursing program it's 78 to pass with a C, and above a 90 is an A. Not sure where the B/C line is. The co/prereqs were higher: an A was anything above a 93, but you could get Ds and I think the pass mark was lowerthan 78, too.

Graduated with a 3.8 gpa.

Did it as a non-traditional older student (37 at the time) with a full time job, a husband, 2 daughters, 2 doggies, 2 kitties and a sick father-in-law that I took care of.

By the way, I graduated with a 95 average for the year, and I was 55 years old.

Went into nursing school with a 3.9 GPA. B first semester, C second and C third. Nursing school is hard and be happy with passing. You have so much stress with out sweating over under achieving. At the end we will all be nurses. Hopefully I will pass the NCLEX the first time. What is easy for some is hard for others. My advise is to pray and take it easy on yourself. Hey I don't feel others are bragging ,God bless if it's easy for you.

Everyone in my class seemed to be an A student before the nursing classes started. I'm not one of those people. I'm more of a B student in normal classes, sometimes B+. Don't know why, just i'm. A lot of people ended up failing the final semester were those A students. I passed. Normal college standards (when it comes to studying and exams) dont apply to nursing school. When you get into nursing school, its like someone hit the reset button and everyone is at square one trying to figure out how to pass the exams. It was frustrating. Congrats to those who passed with high grades. This is just my experience.

A-B student here. there is nothing wrong with getting C's, either = C's also get degrees! you will do fine, as long as you study hard and don't let yourself fall behind.

I entered nursing school with a 3.8. So far I have two A's and one C+ in nursing school. I am proud of all my grades, because I am passing. Some programs are harder than others, so you can't judge your grades with everyone else. Learn all you can and try your best. :)

I just finished my first semester of nursing school with a "C." And I studied my backside off for that. We have to have an 81 percent to pass at my school and you have to have an 86 to get a "B," and I had an 85, so I just missed it. Then too, our tests do not come from the book. They are not even NCLEX-style questions, and they never relate to any of the material we cover or class. The test questions seem like they are from another textbook altogether. I have found the book Test Success to be a great help in studying, though and I usually review it prior to the test instead of the Fundamentals book. (Since I know the test will have nothing to do with lecture material anyway).

1st semester I had 1 A and the rest B's. 2nd semester all A's. This past semester 1 B and the rest A's. I've got a 3.7 GPA at the moment.

If I had studied a little I probably could have avoided the B's but I have other things I like doing besides studying. :)
