My Aunt retired within the last couple of years. She wore all white and a cap every day to work. Her sister continues to work at the same facility and also wears white and her cap.
I LOVE caps...although I would never wear one, 1. because I couldn't keep it on and 2. we didn't get caps at graduation.
I do, however, wear my nursing pin from school. Gotta show the pride somehow!
I grew up with nurses on both sides of the family, and watched my Mom go off to work in her whites and cap when I was little----to me, that's what a nurse looks like! (Sorry Mom, but I just can't wear all white all the time )
The last time I saw a nurse who wore a cap was about two years ago. I was behind her in line at the store. She had on a white polyester uniform dress (a little yellow!) and, while the cap was not actually on her head at the time, it was obvious to me she had just removed it (she had "cap" hair, LOL).
I became a CNA in 1988 and the nurses at the LTC all wore their caps (except for my favorite LPN, who was a "rebel" and flat-out refused because "I look like a damn clown in it!").
There was also the large nurse, who was shaped like a pear, who wore her itty-bitty little pointy cap. She looked like one of those kiddie punching bags that kids knock down and they BLOOP! pop right back up again. (Sorry, I did not like her and often visualized myself making her go BLOOP!)
By the time I left LTC in 1999, only two were wearing their caps, and one was slowly phasing hers out.
Alas, I know those "old school" nurses are still out there SOMEWHERE but they are a dying breed.
Kinda sad.

Hello. I saw a nurse the other day in the parking lot wearing the traditional white nurse cap. I ran over to her and asked why on earth she was wearing that. It turns out she is from the "Old School" era of nurses (1970's) and has never worked a nursing job without her cap ...as she put it "I worked for this cap and nobody but myself will remove it". So, here is the question : Have you ever, or are you currently working with a nurse who wears the cap? ANy insights would be appreciated
