Hello. I saw a nurse the other day in the parking lot wearing the traditional white nurse cap. I ran over to her and asked why on earth she was wearing that. It turns out she is from the "Old School" era of nurses (1970's) and has never worked a nursing job without her cap ...as she put it "I worked for this cap and nobody but myself will remove it". So, here is the question : Have you ever, or are you currently working with a nurse who wears the cap? ANy insights would be appreciated
they are silly looking
Male nurses never have been required to wear any type of nursing caps.
Nursing caps are not silly. They are a sense of emense pride to those who wear them and if you talk to any older nurses that still wear them, most of us could not survive a nursing program like they went through.
If you think so, then sit down and chat with one of them one day and let them tell you what they did in nursing school.
You'll quickly realize that the programs that we have now, are a cakewalk compared to what they had to do to earn that cap and they deserve every ounce of respect and should not be make fun of.
I've seen one nurse wear her white cap. She was younger too, only in her early 40's. She wouldn't wear all white though, she'd wear regular colored/printed scrubs with her cap.
I have two caps, one from LVN school and one from RN school, we didn't wear them in clinic, just for graduation. They are both in clear plastic boxes displayed in my sewing room.

Saying the caps look silly is not making fun of older nurses.

I quit wearing my hat a long time ago. I love my hat (we had a nice one) but I don't have much hair to clip it to and it always came off my head when I would bump into curtains etc.
That nurse you described is a show off maybe a few chemical issues :lol_hitti I'm a "old school 70s" nurse and we were taught that caps were NOT to be worn in public, only on the job.
Thanks for letting give my 2 cents,
Completely modern 21st century geezer
I STILL wear a nursing cap, as well as a white DRESS uniform and a white lab coat, stockings and shoes. I managed to locate some new nursing caps this past week on ebay. One arrived today by FEDEX. The others are on their way. I will NOT wear "scrubs" . I am a professional and will dress as one (properly attired, no extra jewelry or long fingernails or sloppy "hairstyles"). I will continue to dress this way until I retire from nursing, which is a LONG way off.

That's okay! Try Kay's caps online. They have just about every nursing cap known to man.
